Hello Kat,
here is a link to a 'NOW' brand of Kava Kava Extract:

http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?c=1&pid=665&...

I don't know where you are in the U.S. but you might want to try other 'Natural Health' shops in your area...probably just google Natural Health and your city and you should have no trouble finding it...

Here is another website that talks more about Kava Kava and it's history etc...

Good Luck...and let me know how it goes....

Hi Mikemo. Today I didn't take any effexor. I have been really moody today. One minute I'm so mad and the next minute I just want to cry. I don't know if any of it is from the effexor withdrawal or just the fact that it is 9/11. Still 7 years later watching the news coverage of that terrible day makes me cry. Hopefully tomorrow I will feel better. If I don't I better lock myself in my office so I don't get fired!

Oh...and Kat,
You may want to take a look at ordering Kava that sell only from the Root...as the stems and the leaves have high Kavalactone concentrations....but they are hard on the liver...only Kava from the Root is non Toxic to your Liver....and has been used for over 3000 years by the Natives...Google/Yahoo/Copernic is your best friend...

Hey Cooney,
As I have stated before...I did not feel that I had any side Effects while coming off of the Effexor...because I am lucky enough that I could afford a Skilled NaturoPath...and I took 5-HTP and let it build up in my system for 2 weeks while gradually weaning off of the Effexor...(beware of Seratonin Syndrome...but I think this is also a fabrication of the Pharmaceutical Companies...as they are the only ones that can afford to do these studies and always 'Cherry Pick' results)....I never had a Brain Zap while coming off and using the 5-HTP...but hey...every body is different...

However...I did have many crying spells and I am a Man...so this is hard to admit...but I did have them...just outside of work...I was able to control myself...maybe because of the 5-HTP and help from my Naturopath...

I did have Pain...which I used Serrapeptase to kill...Serrapeptase is more popular than Ibuprofen and Tylenol in Europe(25 year record). It takes a few days to kick in...but once your body recognizes it...you can take it any time you get pain...

Also...I had the help of Colloidal Silver...for Colds, Flus and any type of Infections...works on Eye, Ear, Nose, Throat, Teeth, Lung infections etc...Also works on Montezuma, Bladder and Virus/Bacteria...and no...I have not turned 'Blue' (Argyria) as the media has managed to hype up...just make sure the Silver is Clear like water...and you will not turn Blue....and make sure that during your infection...you take little sips constantly throughout the day for a couple of days...especially when you feel a Cold coming on...

Also...I have found that the absolute best Detox/Chelator out there for the money is Calcium Montorillonite
www.terramin.com

you can buy 4lbs for about $70 which will last you a year...the Native Indians valued various healing clays more than Gold....

As I said to Kat...if you live in the States you may want to try the Kava Kava...I don't know if you were taking the Effexor for Anxiety or Depression...but it should relieve both...as long as you get high quality stuff directly from the Roots...

Good luck on your journey to a Better you....Love and Light to all...

5Htp-Man,

Thank you for the info. I am struggling, but have to hang in there at least over the weekend.
Questions;
Is Kava addictive?
Do I take it with 5-HTP?
How much of it does one take?
Now that I am startign to feel somewhat depressed too, would this help deppression also? I actually, can not tell if I am depressed or fraustrated.
I am still takine 5-HTP (only 200 mg, like the bottle says, with results yet.
If I don't find the Kava, and keep on taking the 5-HTP, since it can not be a long term med, how long can I take it for?
I found 2 other health stores, which I will call to see if they have the Kava. I will have to wait for them to open at 10:00 am. By the way I leave in Northern CA., Bay Area.

Thanks again
Thank you.

Kat,

My wife has had issues sleeping on occasion, and we've tried a bunch of things. One thing that worked was L-Theanine.

It is an amino acid, not a drug, or even an herb. SO your body needs it anyway. It has been reported to do amazing things for stress, so perhaps it would work for you. You could try 100mg, which has worked for my wife, or you can even get 200mg capsules (or just take two of the 100mg capsules).

I tried Kava Kava last night as a guinea pig, I think there were 225mg of the active ingredient (which is pretty large compared to the tea they had for sale at a mere 35mg). It made me drowsy, as the label said. And I fell asleep and slept very well. But for daytime I don't like drowsyness. Perhaps you would enjoy the relaxation, though.

Meanwhile, like I said, my wife just went with the L-Theanine. The lady at the healthfood store said that some of her anxiety clients swear by it, while others get nothing out of it. It's worth another try. The cool part about using an amino acid is, it doesn't have interaction problems with 5-HTP or really anything else for that matter.

mikemo,

Thank you so much for trying the Kava and telling me about the experience.
I will pick up the L-Theanine.

I will take it at the same with the 5-HTP and pray that it will work.

I need my life back so badly.

Thank you so very mcuh for being so kind and being there.

kat1999 last decade
Mikemo,

I can't locate the L-Theanine at GNC or the other place I know of.

Are you in U.S? Where did you purchase yours from?

kat1999 last decade
Mikemon,

I called Whole Foods, to see if they carry the L-Theanine.
They recommended this product even more, which also contains L-Theanine and L-Tryptopahn

My name is Bernadette and I used Mikemo's pill splitting method to get off of effexor. I have been taking fish oil, b-50, magnesium and vitamin e all to aid in the withdrawl symptoms. Anyway I just wanted to tell you that today is my 22nd day and today is really good, but for two days in a row before today I was extremely frustrated at everything and cried sometimes just driving down the street. And then today I have been great without those feelings I just try to remind myself that it will be better with time. Anyway the only reason I wanted to tell you about my frustration and crying was so that you know you are not alone. In the beginning there were more of those days but there are getting better with time.

Bernadette,

Thank you for sharing your experience and trying to give me hope. But, I am already about close to 2.5-3 months past the stage you are at.

I just hope mine would get better too. I had been hoping from day 1 and looking forward to things getting better. But, I have had some up and downs. And, now I am at a steep down heal.

kat1999 last decade
I searched for the nutritional information on that product and couldn't find it. COuld you? In particular, what is the tryptophan content and the theanine content?

I don't like products with claims without showing the ingredients to back up the claim.

Hi Mikemo,

I just wondered the same thing. Tried to see if I can get the information off of the website to be able to email, but nothing was there.
I called the company. The lady who answered the phone was pretty lost with information. I had emailed the doctor earlier, but have not heard yet.
But, I called Whole food again and spoke to their sales person who said that all whole foods carry this product. And, the company had to verify and approve the product.
But, again I would feel most comfortable for someone I know to tell me that.

Here is the information:

L-Lysin 150mg, L-valine, 150mg, Ltryptophan, 150 mg, L-phenylaline 135 mg,L Methionine 120 mg, L-Leucine 105 mg, L-Threonine 105 mg, L-Isoleucine 90mg, L-Arginine 45mg, L-Histidine 75 mg,

kat1999 last decade
Mikemo,

How much amino acids can one take? Is it possible that their recommendation be too much?

Thank you so much for responding to me on your Friday night.

kat1999 last decade
Hi Kat...sorry for taking so long...but life does happen...

Is Kava addictive?
'I have heard that large doses can cause withdrawal symptoms'

Do I take it with 5-HTP?
'As you are already on 5-HTP (200mg is very low dose IMO)I believe that it will only enhance your experience as it is very fast acting and can last for up to 24 hours (if very high quality).'

How much of it does one take?
'I would take the minimum dosage at first and increase at 1 hour intervals until you feel a difference and that should tell you what your body needs...'

If I don't find the Kava, and keep on taking the 5-HTP, since it can not be a long term med, how long can I take it for?
'5-HTP is recommended for 3 Month Cycles...one month off'

I found 2 other health stores, which I will call to see if they have the Kava. I will have to wait for them to open at 10:00 am. By the way I leave in Northern CA., Bay Area.

hopefully this helps...

I have contacted http://www.kickbackwithkava.com/

and they say that they ship to Canada all the time despite the Ban....I am going to order tomorrow and will let you all know how it goes...!!!!

Good Luck, Love and Light to All

5HTP Man,

Thank you for your detailed response.

since morning, I went and picked up the, Total Amino Solution from Whole Food store (information above). Have done one dose early afternoon. But, felt really Icky early evening.

I brewed some natural dried camamile, which someone gave me very little of. That seemed to help. Tasted terrible though.

I will keep you informed and will look into Kava if it does not work.

I will keep you informed.
Have a great weekend.

Mikemo,

I have been taking the Total Amino Acids since Friday. The whole Food sales person told me I should see affects fast, which I didn't.
I called the number on the Total Amino, website. The lady who answered has as much knowledge as I (which is zip-00). Told me to email the doctor. The doctor 1st wanted to know where I bought the product from. I answered. Then, he emailed me back to call his office on Mondy.
Now, the way they are responding, makes me think twice about using their product.
What if I just use L-Tryptophan? How much shoul I should use to jolt my system?
Do you think I should also use the L-Theanine 200mg along with it too?

Thanks again for your help.

kat1999 last decade
There is a limit to how much amino your body can utilize at any given consumption. Some say it is around 25g of total protien for an average adult.

Fattening foods also compete for the same metabolization. Let's say you eat a big bowl of ice-cream and take your amino acids. How much of the 125mg of tryptophan gets utilized?

Probably not much. It is competeing with all of that milk-fat and also the other aminos in the blend. So if it isn't absorbed, it is passed out as waste. Your liver can only process so much.

(a healthy liver sure can make a difference!)

Now, let's say you take 100mg of tryptophan and 200mg of L-theanine with a glass of skim milk. How much will your body absorb? Probably quite a bit!

Now, don't get me wrong, I think that product sounds pretty good! BUT I think you could take it as a dietary suppliment with breakfast, and then take, say, 100mg of theanine mid morning and then another 100mg of theanine and 100mg of tryptophan in the evening.

mikemo last decade
Thank you Mikemo,

I think I may, at my current situation just stick to the two, L-tryptophan and L-Theanine (if I can fine the L-Theanine locally).
The reason is that I am taking other vitamins, and this stuff was not verycheap.
Last night when I was reading different websites, it seemed like for Anxiety/Depression the amount of L-Tryptophan to take was around 1000 mg to 2000mg/Day.
And the pills I found at GNC are at 500mg or 1000. What do you think about that?
Do you know if it is true thatamino acids should be taken with a tea spoon of apple cider vinager or lemon juice, to hlep the absorbtion?

Thank you, thank you for your response. I feel that you are a very knowledgable person. And, I appreicate the way you explain things for one to understand.

kat1999 last decade
Just use water. Here's some techno reading on absorbtion:
http://journals.cambridge.org/download.php?file=%2FPNS%2FPNS....

OOPS, I was in theanine mindset when I wrote 100mg of Tryptophan. Sorry.

500mg of Tryptophan is fine, say twice a day. DO try to find the Theanine. The more I read up on it, the more I like it. Plus it worked well for my wife.

Good Luck!

It's taken about a year to get down to 37.5 mg. I did get down to about 20 granules for a few weeks, but then got the vertigo, imbalance and vomiting. I keep trying to go down very gradually, but each episode of withdrawal gets worse. (It used to be just a few minutes of mild vertigo/whoosh feeling.)

Mikemo, what do you think is the lowest drop and rise that would work and be safe?

I will try the fish oils, and 5HT, and keep some Benadryl on hand. Open to suggestions.

AnneT last decade
P.S. So I am back up to 37.5 mg at night. Why do you recommend switching to morning?

AnneT last decade
I like morning because it makes yo9u wake up on empty, and then work through an hour while you wait for the effexor to kick in. this is a good excersize for your brain and body to deal with.

I like 15mg drops and then 10mg rises and then another 5mg drop...until you get down to 15mg. Then I like 10mg drops with 5mg rises and then a little 2mg drop. Something like this:

35mg
20mg spike drop
30mg relief day
25mg balance out
25mg balance out
25mg balance out
25mg balance out
10mg spike drop
20mg relief day
15mg balance out
15mg balance out
15mg balance out
15mg balance out

That's 20mg in 2 weeks. But doing it this way is WAY better than just dropping 2mg or 3mg each day for 2 weeks, which would never kickstart your system.

There is always going to be a little withdrawl. That's how your body knows that it needs to change. The spike drop taper method just tries to minimize the hardest parts while still providing the stimulus to change.

Good luck!
