'She is weak with sensitive &emotional nature urination occurs after 1 hr of sleep then 2 or 3 times after that. '

So it i not only immediately sleep but thereafter as well.

Worms can pass on to the child while nursing even immediately after birth or can be passed to the child from any body having worms through touch of contminated water/cloths etc.

I do not understand why we don't get investigated even through path lab tests or by some oher means and also what is the harm in treating the worms first.

Let the grinding of teeth be subsided first.

In case there is any other remedy for GRINDING of teeth, I shall be happy to learn about it.

DESCRIPTION OF cina is as under :-

This is a children's remedy,-big, fat, rosy, scrofulous, corresponding to many conditions that may be referred to intestinal irritation, such as worms and accompanying complaints. An irritability of temper, variable appetite, grinding of teeth, and even convulsions, with screams and violent jerkings of the hands and feet, are all within its range of action. The Cina patient is hungry, cross, ugly, and wants to be rocked. Pain in shocks. Skin sensitive to touch.'

Dr. Boeriche suggested the potency as :-

Dose.--Third attenuation.'

Hi Rajendra

These are the medicines for

Teeth, grinding :

acon., ant-c., apis., arn., ars., art-v., asaf., atro., aur., bar-c., bell., bry., calc., camph., canth., carb-ac., caust., cham., cic., cina., coff., colch., con., crot-h., cupr., grat., hell., hyos., ign., laur., Lues., lyc., lyss., merc., morph., nux-v., op., phos., plb., podo., sec., sep., stram., sulph., tab., thu., verat., zinc.

Most of them are grade 2, apis, bell and hyos being grade three.

If you add

Bedwetting( general rubric) to this, the common medicines are

Apis,Arn,ars,bell,calc,caust,

gavinimurthy last decade
cham,cina,lyc,merc,podo,sep,sulph

Are the probable medicines.Only grade 2 medicine in both rubrics are selected.

To narrow down our choice we have to get some more prominent symptoms; not surmises.

Murthy

gavinimurthy last decade
Let us put the probable remedies in one place.

Apis,Arn,ars,bell,calc,caust,cham,cina,lyc,merc,podo,sep,sulph.

If we add constipation, childern(grade 2 and above) to it, the choice reduces to

calc,cham,lyc,podo and sepia.

If we add deep sleep to it our choice is limited to

calc,podo and sepia.

When we add copious urination to it, the choice narrows down to Calc and podo.

calc is generally indicated for childern, and hence we can try it first.

Podo can be our second choice.

Let me know your views.

Mr. Murthy,

I am first inerested to know as to what is the cause of grinding of teeth in this case?

Number of medicines can be many for one problem. For worms also many. There are varieties of worms and which worm will be taken by which medicine is to be seen.
If you feel the cause is some thing else then please enlighten me based on your only symptomatic treatment?

Dear Rajendra

That is the beauty of homeopathy. We don't need to know why a symptom occurs. It is enough that the symptom is there.

Tooth Grinding (Bruxism)

What is tooth grinding?
Tooth grinding, or bruxism, happens when a child clenches his upper or lower teeth and rubs the two sets of teeth together. No one knows for certain why some children grind their teeth. Some think that it is because the child's top and bottom teeth do not fit together comfortably. This discomfort causes the child to grind his teeth to make the teeth feel better and later turns into a habit. Others believe that children grind their teeth because they feel tense, fearful, or angry. Still others suggest that children could have an allergy or a nutritional problem. None of these ideas have been proven by research.

How common is tooth grinding?
Dental exams of children show that 1 in 6 children have done some tooth grinding. Also, some parents report the behavior even though their child's teeth appear normal at the dentist. Altogether, 1 in every 3 children grind their teeth at some time in their childhood.

When does tooth grinding usually occur?
Almost all children that grind their teeth do it only at night. The behavior is most common in children around the ages of 5 and 6, however it can occur at any age. Grinding the teeth during the daytime should make parents more concerned than if the child is doing it only at night.

Description

The human pinworm, Enterobius vermicularis, is a parasite that lives only in the human intestine, not outside the body. Pinworm in animals does not affect humans. People blame pinworms for such childhood problems as teeth grinding, bed wetting, stomach aches, weight loss, poor appetite, and even appendicitis, but there is no proof that pinworm is responsible for these conditions.

Most of the references on the net about teeth grinding say the cause is unknown.

Of course, as usual there are some opinions which say that it 'may' be because of worms.

However no one is sure.

There is no clearcut proof, as on now.

Murthy

gavinimurthy last decade
So, I feel we need not bother about the worms aspect, but proceed in the usual 'homeopathic' way, by selecting a suitable remedy that fits the totality.

Exploding a few common myths - myths and superstitions concerning infants and toddlers

Pediatrics for Parents, March, 1991 by Vivian Buchan

Common myths and superstitions concerning infants and toddlers are carried down from one generation to another - even though many of them have no basis in fact. Dr. Peter Wallace, a pediatrician who spoke at a conference for parents in a Midwestern city recently, said,'Some myths are so grounded in our folklore they can cause problems if parents trust them too much and disregard the facts.'

Here are a few that still govern people's beliefs:

Hyperactivity, Grinding Teeth, Or Nose Picking Is Caused By Worms

Worms have nothing to do with such manifestations or nervousness or irritability. Many things can cause hyperactivity allergic reaction to some foods, over stimulation caused by extreme noise or confusion or an unusually sensitive nervous system).

Tension, stress or scary dreams can cause a sleeping child to grind the teeth. Picking the nose can be a nervous habit like biting the fingernails or twisting a lock of hair, or it can be caused by too dry air in the house or an irritation in the nose caused by a cold or an infection. if such habits persist, they can usually be explained by pursuing the underlying causes - emotional or physical. But worms do not cause such manifestations.

Hi everyone Iam happy to see your kind response.

I suggest you to try Calcarea Carb first in the following way.

Get Calcarea carb 200c, liquid potency.

Procure a 500ml.bottle and fill it with about 250ml. of water. Mix two to three drops of the medicine in it and shake thoroughly.

No more medicine is to be added till all the stock is exhausted. It is called as RSB,Remedy solution Bottle.

Label it as medicine, and store it seperately in the refrigerator, so as others won't take it inadvertantly.

Make sure that the refregirator is free from any odor.

Take a teaspoon from the RSB, and mix it into a cup of water, stir well, and give a teaspoonful to your daughter, and throw away the rest of the water in the cup.

The above is called a dose. You have to repeat the dose daily before going to bed.

Make sure that you shake the RSB vigirously, before giving a fresh dose.

Continue this way for a month and report.

In case your daughter gets any new problems, which she never had earlier, discontinue the medicine and report here.

Your earlier prescription of 'Equisetum' failed.

According to Dr. Boeriche:-

'Calcarea patient is fat, fair, flabby and perspiring and cold, damp and sour.'

Are these the indications in this child.

Further if you have identified Cal. Carb. I am interested to be enlightened the basis for this selection.

Rajendra last decade
Equisetum was stopped.

Even if it failed, what is the big deal about it?

These problems are difficult to cure, and we may have to make more than one trial.

The prescription got changed in view of the new revelations.

Do you say that Calc never works for childern who are not 'fat, fair and flabby'?

That observation by Boericke and authors simply means that, majority of the childern who got benefitted by calcarea are like that.

It never means that it can't help others.

The basis for the selection of Calcarea is what all the previous posts are about. Read them once again.

I have yet to find if Calc. carb is indicated when there is grinding of teeth and the Calc. carb is for worms. Pl. enlighten me.

Rajendra last decade
Dear Mr Murthy,
i think this is a practical lesson on repertorisation that you have offered through this thread.

Thanks a LOT.

Its quite an experience for people like me! Let us also hope that this time around, the patient responds better to the chosen remedy.

Dear Rajendra,
I am not a doctor but an enthusiast. But when in doubt, I always consult with the works of great masters like Kent.

Mr Murthy has quoted from Kent's repertory - all the remedies listed under
Teeth - Grinding

You can find Kent's repertory online at this site:

http://www.homeoint.org/hidb/kent/index.htm

I would also like to quote a small snippet from Kent's Lectures on Materia Medica for Calc Carb:

'Grinding the teeth. A child in sleep, chews and swallows and grinds the teeth.'

I hope this clarifies things.
-sriram

sriram last decade
Do you have Kent Repertory?

There are 48 remedies indicated for grinding of teeth, and Calc is grade 2.

Grade 2 means the remedy cured that condition in considerable number of patients.

What else do you want?

Materia medicas are by compulsion brief, and doesn't list out all symptoms brought out in provings. Added to it, there are clinical confirmations too. More over each author has his his unique way of telling, and not all books cover all points. That is why you have to read many MMs for understanding a remedy comprehensively.

A homeopath can never do good work, if he depends exclusively on MMs. He should have reportorial knowledge too. The corollary also is true.

The MM,philosophy and repertory are the three basic tools for a homeopath.
One should master all the three to become a good homeopath.

First of all forget about worms, and concentrate on the symptoms as expressed by the patient's father.

The worms are neither seen nor any pathological reports are available. It is a mere surmise. As told earlier the connection between grinding of teeth and worms is a folklore story handed over by grand mothers from one generation to the other.

Show me a single study that
conects grinding of teeth with worms. I too was under that impression so far, searched the net extensively, but am unable to find a solid reference.

If you know any good reference, please let me know.
