Reflux acidity Page 5 of 8

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I believe that you are a chronic case of GERD from which you have suffered for some considerable time.

I believe that your esophagael valve which is a non return type is eroded by the gastric juices and this reflux has already damaged your esophagus which will take some time to heal.

You are advised not to eat only small meals but often and not to sleep after dinner for at least 3 hours.

In your case Nat Phos alone may not do and you are advised to use Arnica 30c in the wet dose 1 teaspoonful twice daily to promote the healing of your esophagus.

Hi Joe,

As adviced by you to take Nat Phos 6x tablets two twice a day. I have started taking them for last two days.

The results has been amazing. I don't hve the problem of acidic burp and heart burn which I used to have after 5 pm till late night.

Thanks a lot for your advice.

Thanks,
Vicky.

Vicky,

Glad to note that the therapy worked.

You may have to keep up the dosage daily for a week or so and after you stop it you can observe if your stomach is still hyperacidic after a meal.

You should consider yourself very fortunate that your GERD did not do any serious damage to your esophagus as some patients I am currently treating have been suffering from it for some years and all their doctors could give them was Nexium or Zantac which has made a bad situation inflnitely worse.

You responded positively in a few days but these others may have to be patient for a few months on this same therapy.

You are also advised to use Arnica 6c in the wet dose twice daily as this will help heal your innards and also act as a general tonic.

Hi Joe,
As per your advise, i am taking 3 pills of Nat Phos 6x after lunch and dinner. I will be staring the Arnica 6c in the wet dose twice daily in a couple of days. I had one clarification to seek joe. Since i have started the Nat Phos, i am feeling very drained out and tired the whole day. Could it be due to the nat Phos or is there something else?
Regards - Aashish

Aashish last decade
I would doubt very much that the Nat Phos is the cause of your feeling drained out and tired as I have not received similar reports from the many thousands who are now using this remedy to help with their GERD.

However it may be as well to follow your current response which I feel may be due to some other cause. This is all the more reason not to increase the dosage to 3 tablets.

In a case such as yours it is a fine balancing act when we must cure your GERD and also keep you from any after effects that may arise from the Nat Phos.

You are advised to start on the Arnica preferably in the 30c potency in the wet dose as this is part of the therapy where the NP helps to ensure that the gastric juices are not regurgitated into your esophagus and the Arnica helps to heal the mess that it is now in after perhaps years of attack by these juices.

Hi Joe,

I was just googling on my acidity problems, same as other people on this forums and saw your postings. All your posts are very impressive and I hope it works for me too..:)
My acidity problem is from past 6-7 years. I started taking one tablet of Famocid and it became like a routine. If I take the tablet its fine but if I stop my day becomes miserable. Few months back I consulted a docter and he asked me to do a test for Helicobacter Pylori which came out to be positive. He prescribed me some antibiotics and pentocid tablets..I am taking these pentocids from last four months but its again the same, if I stop taking these tablets I again have the problem.
Following is my Acidity Problem -
Food coming into my mouth, Stomach burn etc..mostly the GERD symptoms that others mentioned.
My age is 28 and My weight is 168 pound..And yeah..I do my best to take the frequent meals and follow a strict exercise routine.

I guess based on my symptoms I should take Nat Phos 6x and may be also Arnica 30c. But do I need to take any specific medication for Helicobacter Pylori.

Please suggest.
Thanks and hoping for a cure.

Joe,
On one post you suggested I take the Nat Phos 6x 2 tablets 2 times a day, then later stated it is reccommended 3 tablets 3x a day. could you please advise. Also is it true that Arnica is also reccommended for heartburn and acid reflux. I am alittle confused. I have been using the Nat Phos for about 4 days and I see some results but not gone away fully yet. I know it may take a while. Should I still be eating a restricted diet. or can I eat regular food.

I believe that it will be true to state that at least 15% of the population suffers from hyperacidity which usually leads to GERD if it is not treated within a few weeks after the first feeling of discomfort after a meal is noticed.

The reason is that the gastric juices are so powerful in their digestive process that a drop of this juice, if placed on the skin on the back of one's hand, can dissolve it in under 10 minutes.

Hyperacidity is usually caused by the food not passing from the stomach into the gut within about an hour and this causes the contents to be added to by more gastric juice which eventually results in Heartburn.

I am copying an article on Heartburn below:

http://www.gastro.org/wmspage.cfm?parm1=848

Heartburn is the most common symptom of a condition called gastroesophageal reflux or acid reflux. A sphincter (specialized muscle), known as the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), is located at the end of the esophagus and opens during swallowing to allow food to pass into the stomach. The LES muscle then closes quickly to prevent the return (reflux) of food and stomach juices back into the esophagus.

However, the LES muscle does not always work perfectly. Gastroesophageal reflux occurs when the LES muscle either relaxes inappropriately or is weak. This allows stomach juices to back up, or reflux, into the esophagus, creating heartburn. When the acid contents from the stomach regularly back up into the esophagus, a chronic condition called gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, occurs. Heartburn is sometimes called acid indigestion and usually occurs after meals. In addition to heartburn, symptoms of acid reflux may include persistent sore throat, hoarseness, chronic cough, asthma, heart-like chest pain and a feeling of a lump in the throat.

There are several factors that influence the frequency and severity of acid reflux: the ability of the LES muscle to open and close properly, the type and amount of stomach juices that reflux up into the esophagus, the ability of the stomach to empty properly, the clearing action of the esophagus, the acid-neutralizing effect of saliva and other factors.

What Does Heartburn Feel Like?
Heartburn is a burning pain behind the lower breastbone that may radiate upward toward the neck. It may also include the sensation of food or liquid coming up into the throat or mouth (regurgitation), especially when bending over or lying down. These symptoms may be accompanied by a bitter or acid taste.

Is Heartburn Caused by Hiatal Hernia?
Hiatal hernia is a common condition that occurs when the stomach partially sits in the chest cavity through a weakness in the diaphragm. A persistent hiatal hernia may produce significant heartburn. However, many people who experience heartburn do not have a hiatal hernia. Likewise, many people with a hiatal hernia do not experience heartburn. Testing and therapy usually focus on the heartburn rather than on the hiatal hernia.

Is Heartburn Serious?
Usually not. Heartburn and reflux are very common, with 10 percent of the population experiencing these symptoms at least once a week. For example, 25 percent of pregnant women have heartburn or experience heartburn-related symptoms. Although rarely life threatening, frequent or severe heartburn can limit daily activities and productivity and may lead to further complications. However, with proper understanding of the causes of heartburn and a consistent treatment program, most people find relief.

What are the Complications of Long-Term Reflux and Heartburn?
Acid reflux can sometimes result in serious complications. Esophagitis, an inflammation of the esophagus that can lead to esophageal bleeding or ulcers, can occur as a result of frequent exposure of the esophagus to stomach acid. In addition, a narrowing or partial closure (stricture) of the lower esophagus may occur, interfering with a personÕs ability to swallow. Some people develop a condition known as BarrettÕs esophagus, a change in the cells of the tissue lining the bottom of the esophagus that can increase the chance of developing cancer. In most cases, individuals with BarrettÕs esophagus should be monitored with periodic upper GI endoscopy and biopsies. Lung problems can also develop when reflux causes stomach fluid to overflow into the breathing tubes. This often occurs at night when a person is lying down and may cause wheezing, bronchitis and pneumonia. Other possible problems caused by acid reflux include inflammation of the throat, voice box and airways.

The usual treatment that a patient will be prescribed is Antacids and later drugs that block the production of acid and finally surgery when all the 'first aid' measures do not help.

I have always prescribed Nat Phos 6x for the treatment of GERD symptoms and often wonder the reason why those who are involved in the art of healing do not use this simple remedy which is also very safe in use and in many cases can CURE these problems that hyperacidity can cause on a patient.

Many drugs are prescribed but they usually do not cure as they only help to palliate the condition which usually turns chronic in about a year and the patient is usually hooked to the drugs and suffers from this condition which can lead to other more serious diseases leading up to cancer of the Esophagus.

The result of hyperacidity are spelt out in the article copied and at the later stages when the Esophagus is attacked by the acid after every meal, I believe that it is one gory mess inside with the lining severely eroded causing the patient severe distress and threatening his life.

All this could have been avoided if Nat Phos is used early in the proceedings when the first signs of a gastric imbalance are noticed and I hope that those who have these first signs of hyperacidity will use Nat Phos 6x and experience the blessed relief that results within a few minutes of taking 2 tablets after a meal. I do not mean that cases that are far advanced will react positively to this remedy but it will help those who are within 6 months of experiencing any gastric problems.

I have always prescribed Arnica 30c to be used jointly with the Nat Phos 6x as this helps to rebuild the damaged tissue in the esophagus.

I do hope that those who suffer from the slightest gastric discomfort regularly after a meal will use 2 tablets of Nat Phos 6x and thereby save themselves of a life of suffering which many who are hooked on drugs have to undergo.

The dosage you take of Nat Phos 6x depends on the severity of your gastric condition.

2 tablets are standard dosage but if the patient does not respond he may take up to a maximum of 4 tablets 3 times daily always after meals.

Please note that you cannot expect to be cured withing 4 days. You have obviously been suffering from your problem for some months perhaps years and it will take some time before you are CURED.

Please remember that the Arnica 30c is a very important part of this therapy and you may like to know that many thousands have benefited from this simple therapy.

Nat Phos 6x also reduces weight at the rate of about 1 pound per week provided that the patient does not drink coffee and abstains from preserved meats that contain saltpeter like sausages, ham and bacon and does not drink any canned beverages which contain caffein and cocaine.

Thanks Joe, that was quite informative. I have following two questions.
1) As I said I am being diagnosed positive for Helicobacter Pylori. Do I need to take any specific medication or Nat Phos should be good enough.
2) I understand that I need to take 2 tabs of Nat Phos 6x after every meal. How many tablets of Arnica 30C should I take and should I take these after the meal too.

Why don't you use the Nat Phos therapy without the drugs which you may have been using for some time and which obviously did not give you any relief ?

The problem with drugs is that they are as I stated before, only use to palliate the conditon NOT cure it.

Depending on the severity of your GERD you can use anything up to 4 tablets NP 3 times daily after meals. Adjust the dosage as necessary.

The Arnica is not to be taken in 'tablets' . Please follow my instructions on its use in the WET DOSE and sip a teaspoonful after succussion of the bottle 3 times daily.

Also read my post to Lynn above.

Report response in a few days and I hope that you will be on the way to a cure in a few weeks.

I recently learned that I have a hiatal hernia and suspect it's been there for quite awhile. My biggest issue has been chronic belching and lightheadedness after meals. Truth be told, I've still a bit tired and feel ungrounded a lot of the time.

Eating smaller meals of a more alkaline nature has helped, as has Nat Phos 6x.

Question: I was just at the health food store because I needed some Nat Phos to tide me over until a new bottle arrives by mail. The Nat Phos 6x was two years past its expiration date! After alerting a clerk to this, she told me I could take Nat Phos 30x in a half dose if I wanted. (The expiration date on this one was fine.) What do you think about this 'half dose' solution?

Thanks.

eclisse last decade
You better wait until you hear from Joe before spending your money.

I don't know how you can take a 1/2 dose using 30x.

I thought I read an earlier thread where someone was taking a higher potency of Nat Phos and it was making him salivate to the point of chocking.

Be patient for Joe's reply.

Pat2006 last decade
30x is the equivalent of 15c and this potency is not biochemic. I have not used it before and I do not think that it can equate 6x which is the potency that I have always used for GERD problems.

The 6x which is 2 years old should I believe, be OK as it is said that Homeopathic remedies do not age.

I cannot however be certain about this.

Joe De Livera last decade
Nat phos 6x comes in a squarish bottle not in a long, thin tube.

If paying with dollars, it will cost around $9.50 which is more than the regular homeopathic remedies.

Pat2006 last decade
Hi Joe,
you mentioned that 15c of Nat.Phos is the equivalent of 30x . if that is the case, then 3c is exactly the equivalent of 6x. A little mathematics. But I ain't sure if this is correct.

In Germany, we find, in most of the cases, 2 levels of potencies.... 'C' and 'D'.

Let me start like this. I was quite impressed with your suggestions on Nat.Phos 6x and Arnica 30c in wet form. As I myself have been diagnosed with Reflux Esophagitis an year ago, taking this combination could really help.

Well about a couple of weeks ago, I had a bout of Food-Poisoning and since then, a lot of burning started in the stomach, a feeling of heaviness in the head and most importantly, a kind of shooting pain right under the left rib cage region where the Esophagus ends and not to mention a lot of gas.

A couple of days ago, I purchased Nat.Phos D6 Tablets in Biochemic Form. What would be the equivalent of D6? Does it coincide with the method of treatment you suggest for GERD? And most importantly, does it help my case?

Thanks a lot

It is best not to repeat posts as it makes my life more complicated in replying posts twice over.

Re: Reflux Acidity Headache From Joe De Livera on 2006-06-24
To Joel

Although a 30x remedy is the equivalent of 15c the mathematical extension of 6x being = to 3c is not correct.

C is Centesimal and X or D is Decimal.

You did right by getting the Nat Phos D6 tablets which is of course the equivalent of 6x.

The dose is 2-3 tablets after meals and I would also like you to take the Arnica 30c in the wet dose for your GERD. You should soon find that your problem will resolve itself in a few days.

Your bout of food poisoning obviously caused some problems with your stomach and the burning you felt was the acid burning the stomach lining. If you had taken Nat Phos say 4 tablets it should have helped to settle this problem.

It is incidents like what you have suffered that pave the way for GERD which is a chronic state where the Esophagus is burnt up by the gastric juice and will take some time to heal with the Nat Phos / Arnica therapy.

Hey. I am a 21 year old from New York. Around New Years I started have IBS and i was prescribed zoloft then bentyl. Then, I started having bad buring pains in my stomach around early April, then I started burping. Then i got a colp and gas done, and they found nothing just inflammation in the stomach and esphogaus. Now, I'm prescribed to Nexium twice a day. I burp all the time. I constantly burp, after drinking water!! and my bowels are still not moving properly. I tried acupunture, didn't work. I'm only 21 here, and have my whole life ahead of me, I hate taking pills!, will someone please offer me some help because I'm hanging onto a string.

I believe that the combination therapy that I have indicated on this thread should help you.

You will use the following:

Nat Phos 6x dose 3-4 tablets taken after 2 meals if necessary after breakfast too for a start.

Arnica 30c in the wet dose which you can read above how to make. Dose 1 teaspoonful twice daily.

I shall not suggest any remedy for your IBS as I feel that the 2 remedies listed above should also fix this problem.

Do not eat large meals as they are difficult to be digested. Eat often but small quantities and if you do this you can also reduce the number of tablets of NP you use. Do not ever go hungry as this will give you some pain in the stomach when the gastric juice eats into the stomach muscles after digesting the mucus.

Exercise is essential to stabilize your condition. I do not know if you are overweight as the NP will also help to reduce your weight if you are.

Do not take any other drugs while on this therapy. Report response in a few days. Please note that I have prescribed the maximum dosage of Nat Phos for you and this should be tapered down as you respond which I hope will be positively to this therapy.

Hi Joe,

it was a great relief to read your posts. I am suffering from Acidity and GERD symptoms which started after I was prescribed Antiamoebics and antibiotics for loose motions suspected to be amoebiasis.

I used to have discomfort in the stomach with constt.headache on right side and especially the right eyeball. After the treatment it has gone. However this great dicomfort of acidity has begun.

It is maximum after the dinner. although acidity starts after the afternoon tea at 4:30 PM.

I am an environmental auditor and need to be on tour very often. I was used to heavy to very heavy meals (Veg but spicy) and also was used to overeating when in stress.

The doctor had prescribed pentaprazole and Ranitadine, which has not given relief.

I was also used to eating atleat 4-6 cloves a day, and on many occasions with peppermint crystals which are available in India. (Could this also have led to the present symptoms).

Presently I am not taking any medication except Bio-combination 25.

In the wet dose of arnica you suggest, you have not mentioned the size of the 3 pellet to be dissolved in 500 ml water. we get Arnica 30 pellets in three different sizes here in India.

Thanks and Regards

To Vikramu

You may have already read about the remedies that I have used to help many on this forum and I use Nat Phos 6x tablets for GERD and Arnica 30c to help with the cure of the inner wall of the Esophagus which has been eroded by the gastric juice of chronic patients who had been condemned to suffer from their symptoms by their medical specialists as medicine as far as I can see does not have any remedy except Antacids which are based on Aluminium Hydroxide and Acid Pump Inhibitors like Prevacid, Zantac etc which are based on more complex chemicals all of which are only good for short term use.

In contrast Nat Phos helps by reducing the lactic acid level of the gastric juice and thereby prevents the discomfort that is usually experienced by those who suffer from Hertburn which usually turns to GERD. It achieves this amazing effect by accelerating the passage of food through the stomach into the gut and saves the patient the usual distress caused by hyperacidity.

You should normally experience relief from that feeling of fullness in about 15 minutes after a meal and you are advised to take 2-3 tablets Nat Phos 6x immediately after 2 meals.

As for the Arnica 30 you can use the equivalent of 3 pellets of the 3mm diameter pellets or preferably since you live in India you can get the remedy in Ethanol of which you will only require just 2 drops in 500ml water.

Please report response in a week.

Hi Joe,

I started NP 6X and Arnica 30 C in wet dose yesterday. Although it gives relief in 10 minutes after the meal the acid still starts rising a little later (About 2 hours later).

Also I feel very worried all the time when the acid is rising.
My mucus membranes of nostrils start burning, similar with the throat. Is there something more that can be taken to effect a faster relief. Also as suggested in some of your posts I have taken 3 tab of NP 3 times a day and wet dose twice.

Pl help fast

vikramu71 last decade
You have experienced the relief that Nat Phos 6x can give you but I cannot account for the acidity still being noticed 2 hours later. You state that you have taken 3 tablets and just for experimental purposes I would suggest that you take 3 tablets immediately after a meal and another 2 tablets an hour after.

Report response tomorrow.

The Arnica is OK.

I was searching for a remedy for Acid Reflux on internet and I came across this post.

I have been suffering from acidity from last 5-6 years and acid reflux from last 2 years. I have been taking Prevacid once a day. All is good as long as I take Prevacid but it goes worse when I dont. I really want to stop taking medicine.

After going through your post I ordered Nat Phos 6x and have started taking this from last couple of days. My condition is bad right now but I will continue with Nat Phos to see the result. I have a hope that this will cure my problems.

My doctor told me that there is a leak in my valve (sphincter). Do I need to take arnica for this? I cannot find the instructions on the wet dose usage for arnica. Please tell me how to take it.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Joe,

I have been experiencing reflux now for approximately 10 days with only intermittent relief. I have tried DGL for the esophagus and not eating three hours before sleep. I am not overweight, I exercise regularly and I don't smoke. I am puzzled by this recent onset of symptoms that wake me up at night with burning acid in my throat. I also have heartburn during the day.

After reading all the posts I just started on Nat Phos 6x (have only taken 2 so far - too soon to tell) and have bought the arnica which I will try tonight.

Will let you know how it goes. I hope it will be effective.

Thanking you in advance, I hope.
