The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Evocationer, please help with my one year old

My 12 month old son broke out in hives about 5 weeks ago. The day before I noticed a large red reaction to an insect bite which I assumed to be spider on his belly. That night I applied activated charcoal on it with medical tape. In the morning everywhere where the tape had touched his skin was bright red and swollen, and he had hives all around it. The following morning he had hives all around the elastic of his diaper and that continued, with the worst hives in those areas and smaller ones all over the trunk. We switched to cloth diapers and started elimination diets but have not yet found the culprit. Hadallergy testing done, and he is allergic to eggs, spinach, mmold and peanuts. He is still breastfed. If I give him zyrtec (allopathic antihistamine) the hives go away for about 24 hours, but I hate giving him chemicals and just suppressing symptoms. The hives are not itchy. He is a warm baby, kicks off covers in his sleep. He has always been very needy, constantly wants to be in my arms but won't relax when picked up. If I sit with him in my arms he has always even as a newborn tried to stand, even at a few days old I had a hard time getting him to bend his legs to put him in a sling. He is a good sleeper. Very interested in exploring everything, loves to climb on things and tries to do everything I do. He prefers mom, but does well if dad has him for a few hours. Yesterday I did not give him zyrtec as I did not see any hives, but this morning I carried him in one arm on my hip while he was in his diaper and where my arm put pressure on his skin he got a very large, red welt, and withing minutes smaller hives appeared throughout his body. I have tried the following remedies with limited success. Please advise if I need to change the strength, dose, or try other remedies. I started with urtica urens 30c 2 tablets dissolved in a tablespoon of water, repeated 30 minutes later, no improvement, continued getting new hives. A couple of hours later I gave him histaminum hydrochloricum 30c, 3 tablets, then half hour later 2 more tablets, half hour later 1 more tablet. The hives stopped spreading and the large one faded to pink from bright red,but some of the others were still red. Then a couple hours later iI tried belladonna 30c 2 tablets, then half hour later one more tablet, things stayed about the same, maybe paled a little more, but not very significant. Right before bed iI was worried that they would get worse overnight and gave him a dose of the dreaded zyrtec. Please help. Today again he got hives on his back along the diaper waist band line. I have been giving him histaminum, he has had a total of 4 pills since yesterday afternoon, and the hives are spreading slowly to the rest of his trunk. He also has what appears to be a patch of eczema on his lower abdomen, bellowthe belly button. I am hoping to find a remedy that will help rReba lane his immune system and cure him, if you think that is possible with homeopathy. To recap personality wise he is very independent, refuses to hold my hand now that he is walking, wants to climb and explore, insists on eating and doing everything he sees me and his older brother do. At the same time he is very clingy, but when I pick him up he doesn't relax, wants to stand and squirm. Nurses for only a couple minutes at a time, unless he is going to sleep. Good sleeper compared to my first one. Loves food, eats incredible amounts, seems like he eats all day long. Loves to play peekaboo, where he hids under a shirt or towel. Gets happy when he sees me happy. Loves meat and fish, and most veggies. Wants to eat something sour like fermented veggieswith his meals. Loves to drink ggoat milk. Hates clothes and diapers. Refuses to let me put diapers on him. Is warm at night, I have two blankets on, and he kicks his blanket off, and his feet are warm. Lives being outside even if it's just on our screened in porch, even when it is very hot out. Likes air blown in his face. When I hold him sitting he likes stretching on his back with his head pointing down towards the floor. He had infant torticolis and plagiocephaly that were corrected through chiropractic adjustments and when he started trying to walk we discovered he had a rotated pelvis that has also been corrected through chiropractic. Please let me know what other details I can provide. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and hopefully help me

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Also not sure if this matters but I took sepia for nausea my first trimester pregnant with him, and took amoxicillin while breastfeeding when he was about 8 weeks old and his stools turned bright green and stayed green for a few months even though I had him on prebiotic and did various elimination diets. He also never liked being layer down for diaper changes, I have to change him standing up,

A little update the histaminum didn't seem to be working today so I tried belladonna again. I gave him one pill 30c and in less than an hour the bright red hives on his back were considerably faded, barely pink, i couldn't believe it :). I will see how they look in the morning and will only give him more if the start getting worse. Does the fact that belladonna works and histaminum and urtica urens don't tell you anything about what the trigger might be?

Monicardh 9 years ago
So none of the remedies are working anymore. The belladonna worked that one time and has not worked when thehives reappeared the next day. I tried the histaminum again as well wits no results so I am back to giving him zeroes :( Please help, I hate putting those chemicals into his little body :(

Sorry, I have been a little overwhelmed with cases. Let me see what I can work out for you here.

thank you very much, your help is greatly appreciated. A little update, hives seem to be almost gone in the morning, then start reappearing after breakfast. We had some muscle testing done, and there seems to be some adrenal fatigue in him as well as in myself, which responds to B vitamins. Please let me know if I can provide any more details

Ok I have some remedies in mind, but I would like to get a few other questions answered if possible.

Does he have any fears? How does he react?

What position does he sleep in?

How is he with other people, strangers, relatives?

PREGNANCY AND BIRTH

1. What kind of health problems occurred while you were pregnant with your child?

2. Were there any other stresses or traumas that occurred?

3. Did the birth itself have any problems?

4. Do you remember if any symptoms occurred suddenly during pregnancy that then vanished after your child was born? Especially important are any emotional or mental changes during this time.

1. The only fear I have noticed is dogs. If he is on the ground he starts crying and comes and hugs my leg and wants to be picked up, then calms down. If he is in my arms, he has seen his dad making funny noises at neighborhood dogs to get them to go away, so he ttries to do the same by blowing razberries, since that's the only noise he knows how to make but his attitude is 'go away'
2. He sleeps mostly on his right side, almost on his tummy, and sometimes on his back, head rolled to the right, arms stretched out, legs spread.
3. He is mildly apprehensive with new friends he is not used to, will let them pick him up if mom or dad are not around, or if we are busy, but when he sees mom he stretches towards me to pick him up. With strangers, like in a restaurant, if they make funny faces across the tables, he will smile at them, if they tried to pick him up he would be apprehensive. He does fine with relatives, but of course prefers mom.

Pregnancy

1. No health problems during pregnancy. nausea the first trimester, very painful when he kicked for a couple of months, would get cramps if I walked too fast. Borderline gestational diabetes, controlled thru healthy diet.
2. No stresses or traumas.
3. Birth was planned c section, Dr had to kind of push on my belly much more than with the first one to get him out, he was about 1 lb larger than the first. He had congenital torticolis and flat head on one side after about 2 months from always sleeping on that side, that could have been for being tight with a crooked neck while in the uterus.
4. During pregnancy the main symptom was being exhausted all the time, which suddenly went away after giving birth, I was full of energy even though I was only sleeping a few hours a night.

I looked at these rubrics:

Carried, desire to be
Independent
Covers, aversion to
Clothing, intolerance of/Naked, desires to be
Heat, feet, uncovering foot
Desires sour
Desires milk
Desires open air
Stool green
Fear of dogs
Weakness during pregnancy

Coupled with the red rash that appears around the clothing (diaper) I would probably suggest Sulphur 30c for him, preferably obtained as a liquid dose.

If you have pillules or pellets instead, you will also need a small bottle and a dropper. Any kind of drinking alcohol is fine - I typically use brandy as it is sweetish and children seem to like it. Mix water and alcohol into this small bottle to the ratio of 5:1. Dissolve 3 pillules/pellets into this bottle. All doses will be made from this bottle.

If you already have a liquid dose just start from step 1.

1. Hit the bottle 5 times firmly against the palm of the hand

2. Place 3 drops into 100mls of clean fresh water

3. Stir very thoroughly

4. Take 2 teaspoons out into the mouth and hold for 20 seconds, then swallow.

This is one dose and the same steps should be taken for any further doses, unless I ask you to change them in some way.

Give him one dose each day for 3 days. Stop if any symptoms aggravate (including behavioural).

Thank you so much for your help. How often do I give him the remedy? Is this a constitutional or a cute remedy?. I think we narrow down the cause, seems to be something in our house, probably Haddon mold. When we spend the day outside or away from home, no hives. So I am hoping this is a constitutional remedy that will help replace his immune system so he doesn't have all these allergies.

Monicardh 9 years ago
As per the instructions above, give him one dose each day, for 3 days. Stop if any symptom aggravates. We can do an assessment at the end of those 3 days, although it might take a bit longer for the improvement to show itself.

I always try to find a remedy that suits both the chronic state and the acute presentation if possible. I believe Sulphur does both in this case.

Perfect, thank you very very much, I will order the super today so I can get the liquid. I have some Pellets but they are the wrong strength, 6x

Monicardh 9 years ago
6x is too low. I don't know if it would help at that level. I never use potencies that low, as there is some of the original substance still in them.

I gave him one dose of Sulphur yesterday as per your recommendation. Lately I have figured out the trigger for his hives was mold in our screeened in porch and as long as he didn't go there he did not get any hives. And when he did go on there he would have hives that day and they would go away overnight. He also reacts to pressure on his skin, like from a diaper that is too tight, or rubs him, and gets a large raised red patch in the area and small hives around it. This happened the night before I gave him the remedy, so yesterday when I gave him the remedy he still had a few small hives. Throughout the day he seemed to get a few more, but not significant. I was expecting them to be gone this morning, but instead he has A LOT more, much more than he has had in the last couple of weeks. I don't know if the remedy caused them, and I should not give him his dose today, or if somehow he was exposed to mold again, but I can't think of how that would have happened, unless the spores attached to my clothing while I went through the porch to go outside a few times. Please advise if I should continue with the sulphur or not. Behavior wise he was pretty needy yesterday, but he is also teething and had a fever the day before, so it could be unrelated.

Monicardh 9 years ago
The more I look at this rash the more I think it's a viral rash following the unexplained fever he had the day before I gave him the remedy, and has nothing to do with the remedy. I am thinking I should give him the second dose when he wakes up.

Monicardh 9 years ago
Dear M,

Since we are on similar time zones,
I would suggest that you do not give
anything- and just wait for Evocationer
to suggest.

simone717 9 years ago
ok, thank you Simone717

Monicardh 9 years ago
Aggravation of the rash would normally be considered a good sign after a remedy. This would be especially true of Sulphur. What has happened since then?

It does not matter in homoeopathy whether the symptoms are caused by a virus or not. The symptoms themselves lead us to the remedy as opposed to the supposed cause.

Evocationer 9 years ago
So I guess I should have continued thetreatment, wish iI had known. I gave him 1 dose daily for 2 consecutive days and the third day the rash was significantly worse, it had spread to his face, the back of his neck, and all over his body. I was worried and stopped the remedy and gave him a dose of zyrtec (antihistamine) :(. The rash got instantly better, but took an additional 3 days to completely go away. He has been rash free all day today, but we have been keeping him away from the area that causes his flare-up. What would you advise now? Restart the 3 day treatment? Also not sure if this matters but his liver and gallbladder are having some problems at the moment, if he eats any kind of fat, all the food he eats that day comes out the same way it went in, completely undigested.

Monicardh 9 years ago
Hi Monica,

Yes the undigested food matters a lot. In homeopathy the entire
person is looked at- not just parts of things.

When I talked to you - you had only given one dose of Sulphur and
I advised not giving more unless instructed. Bc you really did not know
what was doing what. Too bad you did not get timely response-
bc giving more obviously gave him a very bad aggravation and then
you still did not know what to do so you suppressed it by giving
the drug.

When you have any reaction in homeopathy- you stop dosing-
bc otherwise you can overdose and have problems you don't need
to have. Waiting is not going to ruin anything-

How long has this undigested food/intolerance of fat been going on?
What have you or the Doctor been doing for it.

simone717 9 years ago
The undigested food has been going on for about a week, so right around the time of the remedy. The homeopath we are seeing is treating me not him directly. Muscle testing showed liver disfunction which makes sense with the inability to digest fats. He said it could be from an overload of histamine which is metabolized in the liver, which would also make sense given the bad reaction he had after the Sulphur. He just recommended keeping him off fats for now, to let his liver recuperate, and try small amounts in 5 days or so. Muscle testing also confirmed environmental allergies (mold is one of them) which I also have, and a Homeopathic remedy seemed to help. We will post info on i in a little bit, but it's a mix of different environmental allergens in mixed strengths. It says on it it's made to be taken for 12 days to bring the body back to a state of homeostasis. He said I can give baby a reduced dose, also. I gave him a little this morning and did not notice any reactions. Once evocationer gives me more recommendations I can stop this if needed and try his recommendation again. I appreciated your advice when I did not know what to do. Unfortunately I had already given him the second dose when I saw your post, amand then got really scared when I saw the hives on his neck and face the next day. I have read that can be a precursor to an anaphylactic reaction, when hives spread to face and neck, and we live far from a hospital, that's why I gave him the benadryl.

Monicardh 9 years ago
Hi-

I think you did the safe thing there.

So- if he never had this undigested passing of food before-
that is one of the symptoms that sulphur can be given for-
'food appears to pass undigested'

That could be what they call a proving symptom- meaning
he had too high a potency of sulphur or too many doses of
sulphur-

What is going on with mold repair? Are you able to do that?

simone717 9 years ago
Oh wow OK, so that shows that it was the right remedy, maybe we just need to lower the dose? That's exciting. We figured out the mold is only on a screened in porch, that we are just keeping closed for now until I can give it another good scrub, spray some mold deterrent and then keep the ceiling fans running to prevent moisture buildup

Monicardh 9 years ago
Well that remedy choice and method
of dose is up to Evocationer-I would
guess he would try a more diluted dose.

simone717 9 years ago
yep, I will wait and see what he recommends
