Debilitating headaches/migraines

Hi,
I'm a guy in my early 20's who frequently suffers from really head-splitting headaches. No over the counter pain killers have the least effect. These headaches come on very quickly, and can last for 2 hours or more. The only thing that helps is lying down in a quiet place. I don't know of any triggers. The headaches strike out of the blue, for no reason that I can see. I get them now about once a week, and they're seriously interfering with my life. Can anyone suggest a remedy ?
Thanks !

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the headaches - nothing (meals, heat, cold) trigger them. They can also occur at any time of the day or night, but more commonly in the afternoons. No other symptoms except excruciating headache. I don't take drugs of any kind. I don't smoke or drink either. I do drink coffee. I have taken antibiotics,as a child for ear infection and more recently (3 years ago) for bronchitis. My last headache was this afternoon.

They start suddenly. They can occur anywhere in the head. One correction to my post : They do last a long time and go away very gradually. The headaches can last anywhere from 2 hours (lucky me !) to 16 hours. Right now, since I'm getting them pretty frequently, the average duration is 8 hours.

I've had them for about 4 years now. Used to be once in a blue moon, if I were really tired or was cramming for an exam. Last two years they've become more frequent, right now I have them once a week at least. As I said, right now there aren't any triggers : The headaches just happen. They're very severe, basically incapicitating. They force me to lie down. I can't do anything while I'm having one of these headaches : I'm simply in too much pain, can't think straight.

not able to acertain chronic remedy as of yet--but can use single dose "only" belladonna 30c when next headache occur--by the response to belladonna may give indication to deeprer acting remedy--

START avoiding all acidic foods and drinks NOW---coffee;tea;coca-cola,pepsi and the like;vinegar;fruit and juices;alcoholic beverages...etc

NO other medicines or remedies--eye drops--skin cremes/ointments...etc

keep posting information as to response or lack opf response to belladonna 30c...

I also have a problem with something called cluster headaches. These are the extreme of all extremes. In some cases peoplle have hurt for so many hours for weeks on end.Personally I get mine once a year and they last for 3 wks....on average.I have tried to stay natural with this problem have not found anything yey that works. So my advice to you is migranal nose spray or dihydroergotamine injection, trust me if they hurt as bad as You say either of these will work wonders. For me I stay with the latter of the two.Sounds worse than it actually is.Plus pain is gone in 30 seconds.Hope this info helps
