Swelling in cast . Kind attention Dr Mahfooz Dr.Srisri

I had an accident driving a scooter and sustained tibia plateau fracture. It's a little more than a hairline crack. I was advised surgery which I refused. I have faith that symphtum will be sufficient to join the fracture. So I was pit in a cast 5 weeks ago and subsequent X rays are showing good joining of the bones.

Now from last week there is swelling in the cast around ankles and knees and calf which makes the cast very tight. The toes too are swollen.

I have taken arnica (helped a little bit) , rhus tox and ars alb without any major relief. I have to raise my legs for couple of hours but the moment I out it down and sit it again swells up.

Please advise.
Thanks and regards

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
The cast is to be opened, problem is to be traced/ treated, and to be re casted. Please see an orthopedist.

Thank you very much for your kind response.

They took out the cast and now I am in temporary cast. They could not find any reason. Even now the swelling is continuing. I am taking only Arnica 6X now. But it's not very helpful.

This info is from the net.

It is very important to keep the swelling down. This will lessen pain and help your injury heal. To help reduce swelling:

Elevate. It is very important to elevate your injured arm or leg for the first 24 to 72 hours. Prop your injured arm or leg up above your heart by putting it on pillows or some other support. You will have to recline if the splint or cast is on your leg. Elevation allows clear fluid and blood to drain "downhill" to your heart.
Exercise. Move your uninjured, but swollen fingers or toes gently and often. Moving them often will prevent stiffness.
Ice. Apply ice to the splint or cast. Place the ice in a dry plastic bag or ice pack and loosely wrap it around the splint or cast at the level of the injury. Ice that is packed in a rigid container and touches the cast at only one point will not be effective.

In addition take Bryonia 200...4 pellets twice a day for 3 days and report back. Stop taking Arnica.

The accident happened 5 weeks ago. Arnica is useful only in the initial stages. It won't have any effect after 5 weeks.

Bryonia helps in reducing the swelling of legs, particularly when they tend to be hot.

In cases like these, the ice treatment helps in reducing the swelling and so also Bryonia.
