Dr. Sajid, 1year old w/bronchiolitis
Dr. Sajid,My daughter, who is 1 years, is also coming off of bronchiolitis. She is feeling much better now but still has a rattling in her chest. She is not coughing as much now but you can hear the congestion rattling around in her chest and she just isn't strong or aware enough to cough it up. Her cough is intermittent now and you can feel the rattling when you hold her. I tried my trusty fall-back Ant Tart 30c but it doesn't seem to shake the rattle. Phos didn't either as her doctor suggested. Help please. Thanks.

Dear Erika,
give your daughter 1 dose of IPECACUANHA 30,
then tell me about the progress.

Dr. Sajid,
Before I could even give her the Ipecac - her rattle went away. But thank you anyway.
I had a bad reaction to ipecac several years ago when I took it for asthma. My daughter recently had a very bad reaction to Lachesis 30c. Do you know why something like this happens with homeopathic medicine where everyone swears that it is so safe? Your thoughts - thanks?

Hello Erika
What did you do to stop the bad reaction? How do you tell the difference between a bad reaction and the normal reaction from a remedy? How did you handle the bad reaction? How long did it last?
I'm afraid to experiment on myself due to the last experience I had after taking a remedy--I experienced much suffering.

Pat,
When I had a reaction with Ipecac, I was new to homeopathy too. I was experimenting on myself and for all of the remedies I tried, that is the ONLY remedy I had a bad reaction with. I was an Asthmatic then and tried Ipecac in a low 6c potency -several ganules and it made me dehydrate and almost gag constantly for about 12-18hrs. I had this dry, gagging, suffocative cough where I thought that I was going to have to call the emergency room. I could hardly breathe and felt like I was gagging and choking to death! Obviously, if I was trying to deal with my Asthma and had wheezing, this was creating the exact opposite, dry heaving, gagging, coughing reaction. I just rode it out - and let it pass. I did not go to the hospital.
My daughter on the other hand is only 1. I am much more apprehensive about administering remedies to her because she had a reaction to Lachesis. I gave her 1, 30c granule and 10 minutes later, she kept whinning and turning her head to the left side, hunching her left shoulder. I didn't correlate the lachesis at first and gave her another dose a few hours later. This time she had a full blown FIT! She was hunching her left shoulder, turning her body to the left, whinning, crying incessantly, throwing herself to the left, becoming somewhat limp, eyes rolling in the back of her head. I had to lay her on the bed at a point because it seemed much like a seizure or something of the like. She had been sick and taking antibiotics for a viral infection in all fairness however, she ONLY had these severe reactions literally less than 10 minutes after taking the lachesis (2ce) which is made from snake venom. She is also very responsive and sensitive to homeopathic remedies which is both great but can also be bad if she receives a remedy that is not complimentary to her issue. I tried to give her two equal doses of Ars Alb, which can anecdote lachesis but I believe that I was too late at that point. She eventually calmed after I gave her 3 successive pellets of chamomilla 30c, but it was very scary. She has never reacted to any homeopathic remedy except Lachesis and she has been treated with many over time. She had never had any convulsions in her life - febrile or afebrile, so this was totally out of the ordinary. At that time, she did not have a fever and was starting to heal from her illness. Go figure? I am very cautious with her with remedies however, I DO still treat her with homeopathy with some worry however it is minimal.
I do have fears about certain remedies but overall, I have found homeopathy to be very safe. I would say that as an adult, you will be able to withstand any reaction but if you are treating children, I would exercise more caution.
