Case for David Kempson - son waking up hungry at night Page 4 of 5

Ok. This sounds just like a Pulsatilla situation. Can you get Pulsatilla 200c? Give him one dose and let me know how it goes.

I will run to the Co-op tonight and get it. Do I do the dose in a dropper bottle with alcohol and everything?

I made an executive decision and just dissolved it in water :)

I will let you know how this goes..

Holy different baby, Batman!

10 minutes after I gave him the dose, he was sitting on my lap at the kitchen table, I was trying to get him to eat something. He grabbed a piece of fruit and starting eating it, and then wanted down off my lap. I expected him to cry as soon as I put him down, but he didn't. He went off and started playing with his blocks. I was able to clean most of the dishes in the kitchen while he played!! No whining for me, he came into the kitchen several times to chatter about and show me the stack of blocks he made, it was quite a switch. No trouble going down tonight, either.

So do you think this state was caused by the Phosphorus? Could it have been hiding because of me always giving him Chamomilla? Whenever he was fussy I just assumed he was teething and so he got Chamomilla.

Chamomilla and Pulsatilla get mixed up by lay-people quite a lot, as does Puls and Phos. With some experience you can tell the difference in person, if I see the child. On here I have to go on the description, which is like looking at one of our books - many remedies look alike that way. But in person you can see all the subtle differences.

The problem was caused by teething. Teething often does this, it upsets things. We will just have to wait and see now what happens if we have managed the crisis correctly. If the crisis actually pointed us to the right remedy for his chronic state, then this was an important event.

It was a somewhat rough night last night, but he might just be adapting to the schedule again since we were more lenient with nursing in the middle of the night while he was sick.

Today he has been just fine, though, no behavior like what I was seeing yesterday. He is pleasant, and is not asking to be held all the time. Much different! I'm interested to see if the nights improve.

I will probably be receiving the Tuberculinum in the mail today, but I'm guessing we're going to be holding off on this for a little bit?

Yes we will need to see how things settle before using any new remedies.

Last night didn't go as well as I hoped it would. He woke early twice and cried a lot.

Also today he has started getting a little clingy again. Nothing like he was a few days ago, but I could tell it was starting to come back a little.

Nico has slowly been reducing the amount of nursing sessions during the day. After Pulsatilla, he now only nurses before nap and before bed, and then 2 times during the night. This is a good step forward! He doesn't seem to want it during he day in the normal course of things.

The picky eating is concerning me. Since he doesn't nurse during the day, he's not getting his normal 'snack', so when he gets hungry and fussy, I can't just nurse him to make him chipper again, I have to find something else for him to eat, but he doesn't want anything. The longer I wait and the more hungry he is, the more likely he is to refuse food and scream when I try to give it to him. When we sit down for dinner, he will refuse most everything we give him. Too much pressure, maybe, because he starts to eat his food after we've finished our meal.

That might just be him adapting to eating more solid food. I'm hoping it passes.

He will probably need another dose in the near future. See how he does tonight.

He did fine last night, not waking before feeds and he did have one 5 hour stretch.

He hasn't gotten any worse this morning as far as clinginess goes, so that's good.

joannadarling last decade
Ok good. Keep waiting and watching.

Tonight has been rough so far..

So let me tell you what I'm feeling. Right now, with his daytime temperament back to normal thanks to the Pulsatilla, he is now just like he was before Phosphorus, save the fact that he is nursing less during the day. He has good nights, he has bad nights, but I'm not seeing any permanent changes in his nighttime sleep ability.

I'm feeling a bit frustrated, but maybe that's just because of the screaming baby in my ear :(

Repeat the Pulsatilla once only.

It is important not to jump around from remedy to remedy too quickly, or we will not be able to tell which one is doing what.

I gave Nico the second dose of Pulsatilla this morning. How long can I dose him from the pellets I dissolved in water? I never made up a proper dosing bottle with the Pulsatilla. Do I need to? I did strike the jar of water 2 times before giving him his second dose, though.

He has stayed steady all throughout today, we will see how tonight goes!

Sorry about the whining yesterday, I probably shouldn't update WHILE Nico is screaming. I am okay with this process, I really want to do it right!

joannadarling last decade
Yes you need to make a dosing bottle. The potency cannot be altered from the glass, and there is no predicting how long it will remain viable like that.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Ok I will make a dosing bottle.

Last night he cried for about 10 minutes once, the rest of the night was okay. This is normal, but on the better side.

Today he seems to be getting more and more clingy and whiny as the day is progressing.

joannadarling last decade
Do I need to redose him after I make the dosing bottle or do you think the 2nd dose from the pellets dissolved in water was sufficient?

joannadarling last decade
Make the dosing bottle. Do a proper split dose this time. Hit the bottle 4 times, 1 drop in 1/4 cup, stir and give him 1 teaspoon.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
I gave him the dose about an hour ago, seemed to make a difference, just put him down to bed.

Like a ditz I forgot to hit the bottle 4 times. :(

joannadarling last decade
Without the hits, the dose will be less effective. However repeating the dose unnecessarily can create further problems so we will have to wait and see what happens.

However, hitting the bottle too often is far worse so don't stress too much.

Nico did fine last night, waking only to eat and when he lost his binky. When he lost his binky, he went right back to sleep after it being replaced.

His temperament was also fine today.

Over the past few weeks, Nico has become more clingy in general of me, not necessarily in a bad way. He's become more leery of strangers and really loves to hug me and snuggle, even if he's not tired. He liked to do this to some extent before, but now it's much more marked. He enjoys putting his head on my shoulder and in the middle of playing will come hug me for a few minutes. Not sure if that's relevant, just thought I'd bring it up.

joannadarling last decade
That is very Pulsatilla-sounding behaviour. Seems like we may be on the right track finally.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
He only woke when it was time to eat last night!

Because of his success in sleeping, we are thinking about when to move forward with the next step of night weaning. This would be to cut him down to just once per night instead of his current two times. This will inevitably cause some upset. Should we hold off on this for now so as not to confuse anything, or would right now be an ok time to move forward?

joannadarling last decade
That is up to you. The remedy should be changing things for him, not just palliating, so he should cope better.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
We'll start the new schedule tonight. Last night he did well, he did wake when it wasn't time to eat but he went right back down with no fuss. Crossing my fingers that tonight goes well!

joannadarling last decade
Always make a dosing bottle unless it is an emergency and haste is required.
