Does Nat. Sulph. Cause Asthma?

Hello All, I have just read a reply from Joe Di Livera in reply to a patient as she mistakenly took Nat.Sulph. 6x instead of Nat. Phos. 6x & immediately she got bronchial asthma, a old problem, recurred. The reply was that the patient was a drug proving case. It is not so, it is wrong it is not a drug proving incident. That particular patient was having already bronchial asthma which was not cured properly. Any homoeopathic remedy taken at any time may bring out the old symptom. It is not a drug proving one. Drug proving is supposed to happen only when a patient is going on taking the particular remedy for quite a long time irrespective of his/her problem, modalities, amelioration & aggravations. Drug proving does not happen with a single remedy alone like this. You must understand the principle of homoeopathy here which says MAGIC OF MINIMUM DOSE. When a minimum dose is given how can you say it is drug proving. It is not right. That particular patient has to take medicines for her bronchial asthma also. She has to consult a professional full time homoeopathic consultant to get rid of her problems. This will not happen usually. If it so happens something is hidden in her body & that has to be brought out completely. We cannot make fears in the mind of innocent patient's mind and we should be able to advise properly. Remember, again I tell you that it is not a drug proving case and she has to be treated properly for all her other ailments too. She did not tell at the first instance itself all other problems it seems. Taking medicines by telling a single symptom will lead chaos and confusion in the course of proper treatment. If she is treated properly she will be able to understand the intricacy of homoeopathic medicines and its treatment as well. Thank you.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I agree a single dose of Nat-sulph cannot cause a disease like asthma, and certainly if a complaint already exists in a person's life you cannot blame that on a proving at all.

However I would disagree that provings only happen over long periods of time. I have participated in, and supervised a number of provings. The symptoms can appear (although not in everyone) on the first dose. This will only happen in sensitive patients, or those for whom the substance happens to be a partial similar.

Whenever judging what a reaction may or may not mean to a patient, it is always necessary to have all the case details. Without taking a proper case history, this is the kind of mistake that can be made.

I totally agree with you about treating single symptoms. It is not to the benefit of the patient to ignore the whole case, not just for prescribing successfully, but for management of the case. Any practitioner can make poor decisions if they have not gathered all the facts.

I could not find this post when I went looking for it. How long ago was this comment made?

To MA Ickbal

I have read your reference to me on the Nat Sulph proving case which as far as I remember was a post I made about 5 years ago where I prescribed Nat Phos 6x to the mother of the daughter for her GERD and for some reason the daughter took Nat Sulpn 6x over a few days and discovered that she was presenting Asthma.

I advised her to stop it immediately and her Asthma symptoms stopped immediately.

I shall be interested in reading this case if you can please provide the link.
