While I cannot say I have found a cure, I have learned a few things about how to reduce my chronic halitosis over the last 10 years. I have had white tongue /metallic taste / post nasal drip for about 10 years now. And trust me, I can clear a room if it goes unchecked. Words cannot describe the impact this has had on my social life. Hopefully I can help someone with what I have learned.

Here is what I have found; Alcohol and sugar are the two main culprits, but stress, onions and garlic are close behind. There are other things to watch out for in your diet, but they have been posted all over the net so I will not regurgitate them here. I have found that if I drink or eat the wrong things it will impact me for days, not just the hours that follow. I like Tom's of Maine alcohol free mouth wash because unlike other similar mouth washes it doesn't scream 'USE THIS IF YOU HAVE SH!T BREATH' on the label. Ever had a date stay over and ask if you have mouth wash? BreathRx is awkward to hand her... Biotene dry mouth tooth paste works well and flies under the radar as too. I usually brush three times and floss once a day. I find the waterpik does a good job if I don't feel like flossing. In the morning I eat a sugar free breakfast, then brush my teeth, gargle with Tom's mouth wash, gargle with water, drink a large glass of water, then suck on BreathRx breath mints on the way into work. As soon as I eat lunch I go to the bathroom and brush my teeth. I coat my tongue with Biotene as far back as I can without gagging. Let that sit for 45 seconds or so to penetrate the coating then brush my tongue. Then I rinse my toothbrush off, apply more toothpaste and brush my teeth. Drink lots of water, then suck on BreathRx mints until my mouth feels fresh as a daisy.

You might be thinking, so wait, I can never drink a beer again with friends? I can never go out and have a good time? I'm going to be a designated driver for life?? First, look on the bright side at least you won't become an alcoholic or have embarrassing drunken pictures posted on the internet for all to see. But I do have one final tip. Get a travel tooth brush (the ones that fold up) and a partially used tube of tooth paste (so its smaller) and carry that in a zip lock bag when you go out. If you want to have a FEW beers, go to the bathroom and brush your teeth after each beer. Drink water or sugar free ice tea in between. That will work for a couple beers. But remember, the more you drink the less you care and the worse your breath will stink. Also your breath will be harder to control for the next few days. But at least you can go out and have a drink time now and then.

There are a few positives to this as well. You will learn to watch your diet and live healthier. You won't drink as much. You won't spend as much money at the bar. But the best thing about it is:

Designated drivers get laid way more than sloppy drunks!!

Lots of posts about this. My experience is that continued bad breath is due to digestion problems. The infection in the teeth/mouth is the same everywhere, also in the stomach, intestines.
We can keep on debating about the different bacteria in the mouth, in the intestines and all that. But it is one integrated problem from mouth to the other end of the intestine and it is manifested in different ways. Depending on the severity and the type (yes I find some variations of this one problem), one will face anything from bad breath to severe fatigue and all.

I have found it to relate to the ulcers in the stomach/duodenum. I do not want to frighten people because as I said the problem manifests in different ways. Actual ulcers may not be detected in most cases (and people should feel relaxed by this). In other cases, I guess, ulcers may be there but not much active and troublesome, almost like not there. Then there would be cases where ulcers are confirmed and they casue some problems but they never bleed or cause 'major' problem.

It has been correctly pointed out in the beginning of this topic that bad breath accompanies many other things like problems with sweets, low fibre things, yeast, immunity problem, anaemia, etc.

So you see all these are together and related. But after partially reading all the posts, I do not find any solution being pointed out.

The reason (for lack of solution) is that we can keep on restricting ourselves on diet, keep on looking for bacteria at different places in the body, keep on fighting anaemia and keep on cleaning the body like tongue, etc. but obviously it is not 'several problems' - From the point of view of homeopathy it is 'one problem'.

Let me add that mind plays a lot of role which has not been mentioned much. Also, while I projected that all this is a sort of 'specific' set of symptoms yet to find out a homeopathic cure, the doctors note down many more things, especially the 'mentals' and categorize the specific set further into more 'unique' symptom combinations - they 'individualize' so to say. And then when remedies are correctly administered, these types of problems are easily cured even to the extent of improving our basic nature/behaviour.

What I said is nothing new. All the expert forum doctors already know it too well.

May be few others will take note of this.

Several things can cause bad breath. Smoking, the foods you eat, infection in the mouth. Make sure you are taking care of your mouth every day! Brush at least twice a day & floss daily. This should help with bad breath.

I am so happy to have found this forum. I looked at it years ago, but didn't take any steps to resolving my pnd and halitosis. I've had this condition for 7 years and it's been the most debilitating thing to ever happen to me. It started in college and life has just been going downhill ever since. I've lost jobs and boyfriends because of it and I rarely like to socialize because of how embarrassing the problem is. This will destroy me if I don't get ahold of it. Mind you, before this I had great breath and great health, an active social life, and was doing well in school/career. I've resolved to get rid of this once and for all.

The conclusion is that this is an overgrowth of yeast in my body. I've been to gynecologists who confirm that I have an ever-present overgrowth of yeast (down there) and have not been able to cure it by prescription or over-the-counter meds (it just comes back). After reading so many posts, it appears this is the culprit. I am following PND and BB healer's recommendations for curing this disease. So far I'm on day 3 and it has already helped the PND tremendously. I do however feel highly fatigued and have very little energy due to this very strict no sugar, no carb diet, but I'll do anything to get rid of cure it at this point. I'm keeping a daily log of my food/vitamin/supplement intake so if anyone wants to know what has been working, I will gladly post that. But I would definitely look at PND and BBhealer's posts because he seems to know what he is talking about. Good luck to all in getting rid of BB!

Ok, this is strictly copied and pasted from BB and PND Healer's posts, and so far, even though it's grueling, it is TRULY working for me:

Begin to change your diet from today.Avoid yeast containing foods from today. For 15 days put your complex carbohydrate in low. After then you can increase. Some professionals think that they should avoid even complex carbohydrate until the patient improve. But i don't think such diet should be continued because it brings problem like excessive weight loss and loss of energy. While we have to increase energy in this regimine.
* Go on doing acupunture treatment from today. You have to at least 2-3 treatment within 15 days.
* Go on drinking Pau D Arco tea from today. For 15 days drink 2 cup a day. After then drink 1 cup a day in the morning. You have keep on drinking for 2 months. Afterwards stop it.
* Go on taking Flora Source from today. For 15 days take 2 capsule 15 minutes before your dinner. You can dissolve it in water , swirl in your mouth and then swallow. After 15 days take 1 capsule a day. Flora Source has to be taken for about 45 days to 2 months. After then stop it. So you can buy 1 flora source bottle of 60 capsule, that is enough.
* Don't take Flora balance for 15 days. After then take 2 capsule 15 minutes before your breakfast by dissolving in water and swirling inside your mouth and then swallowing it. Afer 30 days reduce the capsule to 1 a day as described above.Flora balance has to be taken for 3 months. So you can buy 2 Flora balance bottle of 60 capsule each, that is enough.
* Go on eating 1 clove of raw garlic a day from today. You should do it indefinitely.
* Go on doing weight lifting and yoga( i described above) from today. You have to do this indefinitely.
* Go on taking Vitamin C supplement 2000 mg a day. After 15 days reduce to 1000 mg a day. You can dissolve it in water and drink it. But not with probiotic. After 2 months you can stop that and Try eating foods which contain a lot of vitamin c that includes parsley, tomato, brocooli, leafy green, etc but not fruits though some fruits contain complex vitamin C.

Thank you very much pnd&bbhealer for all your time and help with this delicate matter. Just two questions for now: Eating raw garlic will produce quite a bad smell in itself, so is it possible to replace that with a garlic capsual? Also, what does weight lifting do to help this problem please? I lok forward to your reply. Thank you.

Re: Post-Nasal Drip, HalitosisFrom Pnd and bb healer [Log on to view profile]on 2007-07-18
Garlic is a highly effective antiifungal agent. Even small amounts will have beneficial effects. By taking small amounts you won't have so much on your breath that it will create a social problem

The major chemical constituent of whole garlic which is responsible for its therapeutic qualities is ALLICIN. Allicin is also responsible for most of the strong odor it gives to the breath. So if you remove the allicin, you lose a lot of your antifungul effect although there are other components in garlic that affect cholesterol and lipid metabolism.

So the most commercial garlic capsule-odor free you got will have there therapeutic value lost. So i can't recommend that. Beside if you can make sure that your garlic capsule's therapeutic qualities (allicin) has not been destroyed then its' okay.

There are many things that need to be done(almost i have discussed above)to build up our immune system which is the root cause. Among those exercise is the one. And among exercise weight lifting or like other hard exercise is very important. So I said that. Thus weight lifting has direct effect on your immune system. So i said that. But if it really bother you to do weight lifting, then try some other exercise. But do exercise for a sure.
Any other question are warmly welcomed.

I want to correct my protocol and i apologise for that.
* Regarding Flora Source, take it after 1 week (from 8th day) and not from today. And the way of taking is same. For 2 week take 2 capsule dissolving in water and then take 1 capsule a day.
* Regarding your initial carbohydrate i will suggest a strong diet.
For 10 days- No carbohydrate, only green veggies, eggs, meat, salad and water.
From 11-20 days- Carbohydrate in low(100-150 gram a day)
After 20 days/from 21st day you can increase your carbohydrate.
After 2 months when you begin 2nd bottle of Flora balance again go on 10 days of no carbohydrate. Then after 6 months again go on 10 days of no carbohydrate and finally after 1 year.

But remember carbohdyrate means complex carbohydrate and not some hell carbohydrate (simple and refined).

Again i forgot to add something that is another yeast containing foods.
YEAST CONTAINING FOODS (contd.)
i) Left overs food
So don't consume that. If necessary then freeze your foods.I think in the past i consumed it a lot that was also one of the reason for my halitosis

I am 44 years old and had a tonsillectomy and nasoplasty done January 3rd of this year. Now 2 and a half months later I still am dealing with the dry throat, lack of taste and all around feeling cruddy.

I am restarting the G.I. diet and after reading what is on here I hope it will help.

Starting to wish I hadn't had the tonsils removed and had the sinus fixed only. However this is the longest I have ever gone without being sick.

5. I eat grapes a banana and an apple every day, vegetables and ham, fish no other meat, bread once a day
6. yes
7. it seems worse when I eat salty oily things
8. I have gastritis but only recently

The dentist gave me good advice: a gel to clean the tongue which is no longer coated and a peroxide mouthwash. They seem to be less effective though. I also have post nasal drip that got worse recently and it is what I would like to get rid of as I think could be a major cause of my problem.
I have never smoked, I am teetotaller, don't think I am diabetic, I am 39, female, 1m58 by 61 kgs.I live in London but I am from Northern Italy.
This problem has been with me all my life (also my mum has the same thing)and it really causes stress and depression.I am a very anxious person, negative and also hypocondriac unfortunately. But I am determined to overcome this terrible thing somehow and I am willing to try homeopathy as it is natural and does not have side effects lke the things I am taking. Thanks for your help.
