Feeling spacey, weird and ungrounded

Hi, I am a 53 year old female just reaching menopause (have been perimenopausal for ten years).

I have been self prescribing homeopathics for approx 12 months with quite a bit of success (especially with Nat Mur / Lycopodium).

I had a lot of major trauma in my younger years and have struggled with emotional / mental health difficulties since then. I am very sensitive and aim to lead a quiet, peaceful life.

I have had chronic insomnia for almost 18 years (very severe for a while) although that has improved since I started taking homeopathic remedies.

I suffer from quite major generalised anxiety, especially around work performance however that too has improved somewhat lately.

Another issue that is emerging more now is one of often feeling spacey and ungrounded. Very difficult to describe, just feel strange discomfort mostly through the centre of my body and in my face. Sometimes my bottom lip starts quivering, and I feel odd and 'not right' but not specifically anxious at these times. There is a feeling of warmth that comes with it too especially around my face.

I meditate which helps with my mental health, but it is very difficult to do when I have this ungrounded feeling, in fact it can make it worse.

It is a very untangible feeling and sometimes I only know I have it if I imagine sitting down to meditate, and if that makes me feel uncomfortable I know that it's back.

I haven't met or read much about this from other people and don't know how I can treat it. The only thing I can do now is wait for it to pass.

I mostly feel it when I am at home alone.

Any help would be appreciated. I have come through so much and now this.

HOW TO DESCRIBE YOUR COMPLAINTS (Physical Components)

In homoeopathy, prescription is based on precise details of various symptoms from which you suffer. To tell or write to a homoeopathic physician 'I have a headache ', ' an eruption ' or “a cough” would not be enough. If you inform him 'I have headache with sharp shooting pains in the left side of the head and temple, these pains always come on when the slightest cold air strikes the head. I feel better by pressing the head very hard.” Then only you have given all the information required for making a good homoeopathic prescription. The success of the prescription depends; largely on how detailed your description of the symptoms is.
We require the following details about your symptoms.

LOCATION: Please give the exact location of sensation, pain or eruption. Also describe where the pain or sensation spreads.

SENSATION: Express the type of sensation or the pain that you get in your own words however simple or funny it may seem. You may have a sensation that a mouse is crawling or the heart was grasped by an iron hand or you may have a pain that is cutting, burning jerking, pressing. Express the sensation or pain as it feels to you. Try to explain the whole sensation in the exact way it is happening and not just the word. We need to understand the whole process of the sensation as it is happening to you.

WHAT MAKES YOU WORSE OR BETTER:

Many factors are likely to influence your complaint. Some factors may intensify it and some factors may relieve the trouble. A detailed list of the factors is given at the end. Please refer it while describing each of your troubles and indicate which factors make the complaint better or worse.

DISCHARGES: You may have a discharge from nose, ears, mouth, eyes, ulcers, fistula, eruptions on skin, private parts, etc. Please describe your discharge in detail including colour, consistency, appearance, odour etc.

1] Your Complaint:

(Use your own words as far as possible, but if you have recognized or diagnosed the condition, give this information also.) By answering as many of these questions as fully as possible, you are helping me to understand what your body and unconscious mind is conveying. This can help me find a remedy for you.)
• What is your complaint?
• When did the complaint begin?
• Where is it located?
• What sort of sensations (and emotions) do you associate with it?
When does it tend to occur (time/day)
• Does anything make it better or worse?
• How does it bother you? How is it coming in way of your day-to-day life?
• How does it feel like to have this/these problem/s?
• What is the effect of this/these problem/s on you?
• Did any event happen which caused the complaint? Describe the emotion associated with it.
• What are the other symptoms started with it, esp. mental and physical symptoms, which are not directly related to the main complaint.
• What are your reactions with it?

PLEASE ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS FOR EACH SYMPTOM/COMPLAINT SEPARATELY. DO NOT INCLUDE ALL OF YOUR COMPLAINTS TOGETHER IN EACH QUESTION eg. all questions answered for Leg Pain, then same questions answered for Migraines, then same questions answered for Panic attacks etc

Mental and Emotional State Description

(the homoeopathic remedy is very often decided on the basis of the mental and emotional state of the patient !)

1. What are the issues in your life that bother you the most. Not physical issues but mental or emotional ones. List each one separately and describe why each one bothers you so much.

2. What emotions are the most troublesome for you? What situations provoke these emotions. How do these emotions make you act? Do you feel any ill effects from expressing or not expressing these emotions.

8. When you experience your fears, persistent thoughts, or difficult emotions, what kind of sensation or reactions do you get in your body?

9. When did you feel at your best in your life? What was that like for you? If you imagine the complete opposite of this feeling or moment, what would that be like?

10. Do you feel like you are stuck in a pattern of behavior, especially when trying to deal with your problems? What is this pattern?

11. What difficulties or problems do you have in relationships? Talk about your family, your romantic relationships, your spouse or partner, your friends, and your work colleagues. You may need to talk about all of these separately.

12. List 5 positive things about yourself. Are there any situations where this positive attribute becomes negative (is a problem)?

13. List 5 negative things about yourself. Are there any situations where this negative attribute becomes positive (is useful)?

I have put this back up to the top of my list since I had lost track of the thread.

Evocationer 9 years ago
Thank you, I look forward to your advise when you get the opportunity. My situation has been changing however.

I finally connected the spacey ungrounded feeling to my vegetarian diet, so I have gone back to eating meat until I can identify exactly what I am deficient in (I suspect it may be zinc) and those symptoms have stopped now since changing my diet.

This website states that zincum metallicum is suitable for those compelled to work on insufficient sleep which sounds suitable if I can find a source.

My hot flushes have also dissipated since I have been taking a menopausal herbal supplement.

My insomnia has worsened unexpectedly in the last few days and is again my major issue. I have applied for a new job which would require me starting 1 1/2 hours earlier and would put a lot more pressure on me and I don't know if I could cope.

It is taking me longer to get to sleep as my thought processes are more active again after an improved period.

During the night I periodically have small little surges of intense agitation, plus tossing and turning and frequent waking.

I hope this revised information isn't too confusing, if you prefer please let me know and I could answer all the questions afresh. thanks

pinkfrost 9 years ago
I will make a suggestion today for you. Don't take any homoeopathy in the meantime, nor any tissue salts, bach flowers, or flower essences (or anything similar).

Exactly how is the insomnia worse? What features have changed?

By the way, can you give me a list of any other remedy you have taken and the results of it.

Evocationer 9 years ago
The answers here are very short and lacking in detail unfortunately. I feel like I am having to guess at many of the meanings of them. Perhaps this is a reflection of the emotional repression, or perhaps your experience with case-taking might be limited to practitioners who don't properly explore patient statements.

If it is repression that is responsible, then perhaps that is a way into the case.

I would firstly consider the remedy Carcinosinum.

Emotions suppressed
Forsaken, sensation of isolation
Ailments from shock
Ailments from shock that has been mentally suppressed
Ailments from prolonged grief
Ailments from silent grief
Ailments from rape
Ailments from death of parents
Confidence wanting, feeling of being a failure
Fear of rejection
Fear of people
Fear of dogs
Sensitive to the opinion of others
Dreams of being pursued

All of these rubrics contain this remedy.

The most recent proving of this remedy shows the following symptoms:

Bad mood with tendency to anger
Difficult concentration; Distracted; Does not remember what he has just read; Forgetful, makes mistakes, difficulty co-ordinating thoughts
Sensation of unreality, as if he were in a dream
Abstraction of mind, sensation of mental emptiness
Sensation of incapacity, hopelessness, fear because of disapproval of those surrounding her

Difficulty falling asleep, sleeps very lightly
Cannot sleep, feels restless and desperate, and cannot find a restful position
Great sensitivity to cold air

I would obtain Carcinosin 30c and 200c. We will start with 30c first. Try to get them in liquid form (oral dosing liquid).

If you instead have pillules or pellets, you will need a small bottle and a dropper to make your own liquid dose. Mix water and alcohol into this small bottle to the ratio of 5:1. Dissolve 3 pillules/pellets into this bottle. All doses will be made from this bottle.

If you already have a liquid dose just start from step 1.

1. Hit the bottle 5 times firmly against the palm of the hand

2. Place 3 drops into 100mls of clean fresh water

3. Stir very thoroughly

4. Take 2 teaspoons out into the mouth and hold for 20 seconds, then swallow.

This is one dose and the same steps should be taken for any further doses, unless I ask you to change them in some way.

If any old symptoms reappear, or any current symptoms worsen, this is a GOOD sign in most cases. DO NOT SUPPRESS them with other kinds of medication unless you are in real danger (which is a highly unlikely reaction to a remedy).

However, if you are on regular medication it is also important that you do NOT stop taking this. Once it is determined the medicine has acted beneficially, we can look at reducing such medication if safe to do so.

For the 30c, I will get you to take 5 doses, one each day for 5 days. STOP if any symptoms appear to worsen.

Pink Frost,

If in Usa, you have to order this remedy from Helios Homeopathic in the UK.
They list a lot of different kinds, just get the one that says Carsinosin with no
additional descriptions. It takes around 2 weeks to receive it from the UK.

simone717 9 years ago
Apologies for the delay in replying. I have have stopped taking everything although remain on medication to help me sleep.

I hope to try the remedy at the end of the week, as there is a two week school holiday break when I am off work (here in NZ) so I thought it would be good to begin then.

I would agree that many of the symptoms Carcinosinum treats match what I have. I don't have the bad mood / tendency to anger, however the 'cannot sleep, feels restless and desperate' is very accurate.

If I'm honest though I have to say I felt quite perturbed when I found out what the remedy was and frankly balk at the idea of taking it. I am grateful for your advise and am keen to give it my best shot, but any assurances you can offer regarding this to help put my mind at ease would be appreciated.

In the meantime I have purchased the 30C liquid form. The seller told me however that she had already done step one when she was preparing it (hitting the bottle). So do I still need to do that or should I miss that step?

Previously I have taken Nat Mur and Lycopodium on several occasions. The former I haven't really identified anything specific other than a vague calming feeling, but no other great change that I can put my finger on.

The Lycopodium I have taken mostly to stop anxiety around work performance and it seems to have helped quite a bit, I felt less anxious and more resigned to just letting things happen. It may have also helped my sleep too although I'm not sure.

Twice I took it when I had something really big happening at work and was extremely anxious about it, both times I felt it calmed me quite a bit and thereby helped me to 'get through' the events. The first time I tried it it gave me the strongest result and I can remember feeling very calm and collected, but the feeling never lasted.

I've also taken Nux Vomica and Silicea for sleep, and neither seemed to have a very bit impact.

I tried hard to give full descriptions and apologise if they were not adequate, I don't really know for sure why they lack detail. Yes, the emotional repression could be a factor I suppose.

Secondly I can say with the anxiety I think I may live in my head to a much greater extent than other people. In this state of 'what if's' my mind is constantly jumping from the past and reliving events, then to the future thinking about how I would do things differently, etc. This process makes me much less aware of what is happening in my body. Dr Claire Weekes describes anxiety very well. She says anxious people have a lot of 'sticky' thoughts - thoughts that become very powerful and just won't go away.

Finally, it is hard to find the right words to describe how I am feeling sometimes, if the feeling is very subtle or when it feels like something's happening on a cellular level I am unable to find the language to best describe it.

I look forward to your reply regarding the remedy, many thanks.

There is no physical substance in the remedy. It is merely the water now carrying a vibration, a signature. No actual c-ancer.

It is not even the worst of what we use. We use poisons, disease matter and discharges, waste products, rotten material - all sorts of things that other therapies cannot or will not use. Our ability to dilute and yet maintain the healing potential of a substance gives homoeopathy an advantage no other medicine in the world has.

I would obtain remedies from Simillimum Pharmacy in NZ. Michael Dong is a reputable homoeopathic pharmacist and he has many remedies available.

Follow all the steps I gave. It doesn't matter that the remedy might already be 30c+ - just get into the habit of hitting it each time.

Hi evocationer, I have been taking the 30C liquid Carcinosinum for 4 days now, following your instructions. I have been watching for any changes but haven't noticed
anything whatsoever.

What shall I do after tomorrow (day 5)? thanks

pinkfrost 9 years ago
Stop on day 5, then wait and watch for another week. At the end of that we will assess the response. Remedies may not act quickly, so the reaction can be delayed.

Hi, it has been a week since I stopped taking the Carcinosin 30C. I have noticed the following things -

Sleeping still pretty much the same except I am having a bout of restless leg syndrome, which comes and goes.

I got a light cold two days ago and have been feeling quite achey. I feel worse when I'm feeling cold. I have had a couple of pimples on my face which is also out of the ordinary.

Mentally I have been feeling pretty much the same - quite a bit of anxiety and tension and generally not feeling very upbeat.

I am interested in trying the 200C if you think that's a good idea, and if so please give details on how to take it and for how long.

Thanks for your help.

ps - I have avoided all the things you said, tissue salts & flower essences etc, but I was wondering if it was okay to use herbal supplements?

Attn - Evocationer

The last couple of days the anxiety seems to have dissipated and last evening especially I felt very calm and balanced. My body was also quite relaxed. Today I felt slightly flat although I often do when I am at home not interacting with others, but still felt calm.

I slept better and for longer last night although it took a couple of hours to fall asleep.

Shall I just hold off and continue to see what happens? thanks

pinkfrost 9 years ago
Yes just watch and wait for the moment. Let the changes the remedy made settle and possibly advance further.

Evocationer 9 years ago
Attn - Evocationer

I has been about a month since I took the 30C Carcinosin.

I don't really feel that much better in myself confidence-wise however both the anxiety and insomnia have improved markedly which is significant.

In fact, I cannot remember feeling any anxiety at all during the daytime hours over this time.

And now, on many / most nights I can fall asleep without medication (big breakthrough). Although a new pattern sees me waking again around 3 or 4 am and it takes me a long time to get back to sleep, if at all.

But the 4 or so hours I have slept up until that point has been better quality and I am dreaming more again. You can see in my face the improvement as the dark circles / bags under my eyes are much better.

The surges of anxiety I would get at night also vanished initially, however in the last few nights they have been creeping back more and more.

Also, as I said before, I seem to react badly to solar eclipses for some unexplained reason. I marked the next one on my calendar after a really anxious, ungrounded experience last time and the same thing happened again (it was one evening last week). I wrote down all the symptoms I felt & can let you know what they were if you need me too, but I only experienced it for that one night.

I still have some pimples coming up under the skin on my face. Does that mean its still working?

So overall an impressive result. The only things I would still wish for, if I can be picky, is that no old stuff has surfaced, and I wish it would so that I could finally deal with it. I think I'm still quite emotionally repressed and socially phobic and continue to be awkward around certain people / situations.

Shall I take another dose otherwise what do you recommend now? thank you

Hi PInkfrost,

Evocationer has been away, he probably has to catch up.
Anytime someone posts, their thread goes to the top
of the forum. He will notice it more.

Sometimes people just write 'bump up' to get their posts
back up there.

Glad you are having such a good result.

Hi Evocationer

It has been almost since I took the 30C Carcinosin.

The daytime anxiety has basically completely dissipated which has been a big relief. The ungrounded feeling I initially complained about pretty much stopped when I began eating meat again.

My sleeping improved for a while, but has deteriorated again especially in the last 7 - 10 days, despite me being on holiday.

I am having difficulty getting to sleep, staying asleep and sleeping in any depth. I toss and turn a lot, and feel agitation that rises along with high levels of thought.

I have tried observing the discomfort more closely and it sometimes feels like constricted breathing in my lungs, jagged or uneven breathing, sometimes the feeling of anxiety 'riding' on my breath and feelings of desperation over the discomfort and about not getting enough sleep.

I am keen to try a stronger dose of Carcinosinum if you think it is suitable, for the sleep and for my main remaining issues of resolving past trauma and some (lesser but still remaining) social issues like continuing to be awkward around certain people / situations.

These are things I feel are still relevant to me to some degree that you previously stated could be helped with this remedy -

Emotions suppressed
Forsaken, sensation of isolation
Ailments from shock
Ailments from shock that has been mentally suppressed
Ailments from prolonged grief
Ailments from silent grief
Ailments from rape
Ailments from death of parents
Confidence wanting, feeling of being a failure
Fear of rejection
Fear of people
Fear of dogs
Sensitive to the opinion of others
Dreams of being pursued

Please let me know if you need any more information or if you want me to answer all the questions again.

many thanks

What I would do first is repeat the 30c. Moving to quickly to a higher potency can cause chaos in a case, so it needs to be done at the right time.

Repeat the remedy, but 3 doses (one each day for 3 days) only.

Attn - Simone & Evocationer

Wishing you both a wonderful 2015, thank you so much for your help this year.

The latest update for me is (as previously mentioned) the carcinosinum helped my anxiety a lot - in fact the daytime anxiety has gone.

The chronic insomnia is still a work in progress, but after 17 years I expect it will take a while to shift. I hoped some past trauma issues would also resurface so I could deal with them, but nothing has happened yet.

With the anxiety gone it suddenly occurred to me that it may not be too late to travel and teach English, which has been my only really big dream. So I began researching and preparing but I have now had another setback.

I can't get confirmation from my GP for about 2.5 weeks as he is on holiday, but I am pretty sure I have endometriosis, or perhaps even something worse. If it is the former, then I feel that to keep it at bay in future I will need to sustain a very healthy lifestyle which may be too hard to do when I'm overseas, so I am reevaluating my situation.

The reasons I feel I may have endometriosis are -

1. High risk factors - never had children / late menopause (so a lot of exposure to estrogen over a long period of time)

2. Have had endometrial cells in a pap smear previously

3. Relevant symptoms

- a lot of pelvic discomfort, odd pains and cramping around time of period

- very dark brown blood at end of last period

- recent bladder infection

- slightly heaver periods

I have some herbs here which I am keen to try unless there is something homeopathic that you think could help. I am still taking St John's Wort in the evening to help with the sleep.

If you think its a good idea I will complete another questionnaire, I just don't know whether to answer it only re the gynecological issues, or to include the anxiety / insomnia.

thanks again
