The ABC Homeopathy Forum

hoeopathy is hit and trial with mostly misses

I find homeopathy as very unscientific way of treatment (if it all treats). It is all hit and trial, evey homeopath trying to work out his own way. The questions asked are so confusing, most patients perhaps will have to work fr weeks thinking answers to such queries which are often so similar but offerin g different medicines and cure. hen their is limit of language also. Even this grid offers very amusing result:often it will suggest one medicine and then will say it won't work if ...giving a long list of alternates and then offering a combination medicine.
Also, I found discussions on this forum very amaeturish and shallow. is in it reflection on homeopathy itself?Again, this is one pathy which claims treatment of all diseases!nd because i does not treat most and practioners know it, so they refuse to properly document case studies on the pretext that each patient is given different medicine. This again is not a rule as many patients for similar symptoms are given same medicine. By not being scientific and by avoiding holding research, homeopaths have only worsened the confusion. I even suspect their brilliance. Most practioners scored very poorly in their school and failed to get into allopathic medical colleges and instead opted for homeopathy.

  i question on 2007-01-07
This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Honestly stop debating on such stuff every type of medication is good when u r getting rellief and its not causing long term side effects. Plzz some of us have tried allopatic i have done all i could my mom have tried all she could with no relief now we are trying homeopathic just like we tried allopathic with same hope why come and ruin peoples hope. I agree not all remedies work for everyone and not all allopathic meds work for everyone.
See i had a bladder problem due to high prolactin no dr in sweden and london were willing to agree that there is a connection. But the medicine for prolactin helped my bladder while no other allopathic medicine helped and they still disagree . so not everything should have a scientific explinations, i myself have been helped by homepathic so plzz stop this. Thats a very unrespectful thing to say that these people couldnt get into allopatic field due to intellegence so they chose to become homeopathic.
My Mom has tried atleast 20 types of allopatic medicines in 9 month with no relief so here u see its not only homeopathy that goes through trial and error!!!

It is a fact that many of the patients come to homeopathy, after they get disheartened with the allopathic treatment.

The homeopath has first to negate and get rid of all the toxins that are accumulated in such people, and it is a difficult task, to say the least.

However majority of the good prescribers manage to do that. The homeopathic medicines work wonderfully on those who stopped taking allopathic medicines. The longer they are away from allopathy the better are the results with homeopathy.

A whole generation of kids is being rised in India by using exclusively homeopathic medicines, and they will show the world what is meant by real health, in the near future.

balanced view expressed...well taken...thanks....my objection has been to a general trend where homeopathy is being projected as miracle medicine..it has become a fashion whereas it is rather irresponsible thing to do...I agree that allopaths do not have cure for many problems either and even they keep taking chances for some treatment. However allpaths have a solid data bank and research which they quote to tell patients whether they will be alright or not. Homeopaths somehow are always reluctant to build a data bank-may be because of lack of resources or sheer casualness. The other day I read aout a French company using arsenic based homepathy medicine to cure ANA positive patients in arsenic dominated area on West Bengal. It was done in a very scientifioc manner using accepted survey methodology. Patients turned ANA negative which allopathy can not do.Such examples of substantiating claims through records is very rare in homeopathy.

Please post a reference to details about that French company's success. I would like to read all about it. Thank you.

You can access information through google:insert words like 'arsenic poisoning homeopathy arsenicum west bengal' and you may get quiet a few references.
The paper has been published by xford University Press also.

i question last decade
While some of what you say is true, 'i question', you also have some misunderstanding about selection of remedies.
First, when you use a software like this site's remedy-finder, I would think the results are likely to be from fair to indifferent on average. That is partly because a person is not always sure of the answers, and apart from that, the selections are somewhat broad.
As for 'every homeopath trying out is own way', that is partly true and partly not. Each doctor will look at the individual from his own perspective and weigh certain factors differently, concentrate on one set of key factors or indicators (PQRS symptoms, mentals, keynote symptoms, changed symptoms)and choose the remedy. Most real homeopaths will have an almost identical list of a few remedies which they will select the most suitable remedy from - they might differ in this final choice, The possible homeopathic remedies have wide-ranging functionality and modalities and concomitants would have refined the choice.
This process presupposes that a homeopath is following homeopathic principles, with proper case-taking.
Why should homeopaths refuse to document cases? I don't know about others here, but I and all the practitioners I know certainly document cases. I don't think homeopaths avoid 'holding research' - it's more that our findings are not accepted by most 'scientists' because we cannot replicate them at will.

I FIND HOMEOPATHY AS VERY UNSCIENTIFIC WAY OF TREATMENT(IF IT ALL TREATS)

This are the lines with which learned researcher has started his topic : Homeopathy is hit & trial with mostly misses.

I will request the researcher to provide us the essence of his above findings, his research design, his sampling method ,sample size, procurement of data base etc.

If his scietific findings prove it beyond doubt, that homeopathy is unscientific way of treatment, then we are left with no option except to agree with the researcher.

There was a good test of Homeopathy.

It is not up to anyone to prove that homeopathy does not work. It is up to the people who practice it to show that it does not work.

Actually, Robot, it is up to them to show it DOES work. And I encourage all scientific homeopaths to design protocols and run proper testing, and publish their results.

I agree with the above statement. That is why I made the last paragraph of my statement.

I have seen no credible evidence that homeopathy works. Nothing better than saying 'I flap my arms at an airport and planes land. This means that flapping my arms makes planes land.'

Just worked out the reason for the confusion. There is an extra not in the last paragraph.

Does anyone know of any evidence of homeopathy working?
The evidence must be
- A double blind test
- Peer reviewed
- Published in a reputable journal.

You have had four days to reply. So far, I have had no one attempt to give me a decent answer. What does that tell me?

Following research article may be able to satisfy the quest of those who predominently have scientific bent of mind only

RESEARCH IN HOMEOPATHY

Whatever critics may say That HOMEOPATHY does not have any good research. we can confidently inform them that they are not familiar with The SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE. The following summarizes a number of good double-blind Homeopathy studies including both LABORATORY STUDIES as well as CLINICAL RESEARCH. HOMEOPATHY also has a most IMPRESSIVE ACCUMULATION OF STATISTICS that has been acquired over The last 200 years. In a time and age when medicines have a rapid turnover due to harmful side effects or ineffectiveness, Homeopathy has stood the TEST OF TIME. As basic truths will always exist, so have the remedies of Homeopathy. It should be known that In 1975 the U.S. CONGRESS OFFICE OF TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT estimated That only 10-20% of all CONVENTIONAL MEDICAL PRACTICES have been shown to be EFFICACIOUS BY CONTROLLED TRAIL. 1

EARLY HOMEOPATHY RESEARCH — To the surprise of most, The FIRST DOUBLE BLIND CROSS-OVER STUDY EVER PERFORMED was done in 1906 BY HOMEOPATHS. This impressive study was done concurrently in eleven different cities on fifteen subjects. This particular experiment consisted of 665 pages, which was The Research Provings of BELLADONNA. 2

Also at the turn of The century. a book was published called 'The LOGIC OF FIGURES or COMPARATIVE RESULTS OF HOMEOPATHICAND OTHER TREATMENTS. This book provides dozens of charts comparing dis-ease and death rates in Homeopathic and Allopathic Hospitals. This also included the epidemic diseases of scarlet fever, yellow fever, typhoid. etc. The HOMEOPATHIC HOSPITALS usually had 50 TO 80% LESS DEATHS PER 100 PEOPLE, depending on The disease compared.

Another early double blind Homeopathy study was sponsored by the BRITISH GOVERNMENT DURING WORLD WAR II, The experiment demonstrated that those given Homeopathic Remedies experienced SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT IN BURNS FROM MUSTARD GAS in comparison to those given a Placebo. A 1982 review provided further substantiation of the statistical significance of the Homeopathy research. 3, 4

LABORATORY EVIDENCE — The number one criticism of the scientific community has been the 'infinitesimal' nature or the dilution principle of Homeopathy. Homeopaths do agree that once a remedy is diluted beyond 24x or 12C potencies. they are diluted beyond Avagadro's Number (6.23 x 10-23) which theoretically indicates that no molecules are present in the original substance. However, both LABORATORY AND CLINICAL RESULTS over The last 190 years have demonstrated definite effectiveness with Homeopathic remedies beyond this dilution.

A recent NUCLEAR MAGNETIC RESONANCE (NMR) study showed that all twenty-three different Homeopathic Remedies and Potencies tested had DISTINCTIVE READINGS OF SUBMOLECULAR ACTIVITY, while The Placebos did not. This demonstrates That homeopathy's function is not so much chemical but energetic. As Chiropractors, you will observe dramatic clearing of sensory nerve Interference and pathological reflex activity causing chronic recurring subluxation activity and dis-ease.5

ANTIVIRAL

A recent double-blinded study has shown THE ANTIVIRAL EFFECT OF HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES EIGHT OF THE TEN remedies tested INHIBITED VIRUSES in chicken embryos from 50 to 100 PERCENT depending on The potencies used.6

HEAVY METALS

The respected journal. HUMAN TOXICOLOGY. published a study showing that Homeopathic doses of arsenic eliminated crude doses of trapped arsenic that had been previously fed to rats.7

LOWERED SERUM CHOLESTEROL

Four German Scientists at a Veterinary College showed That Homeopathic Chelidonium had LOWERED SERUM CHOLESTEROL when given twice a day to rabbits on a cholesterol rich diet.8

REDUCED LABOR PROBLEMS

British Veterinarian, Christopher Day, had conducted several pilot studies demonstrating how Homeopathic Remedies had REDUCED LABOR PROBLEMS in cattle. STILL BIRTHS in pigs, and MASTITIS in catlle.9

ANTI-CANCER

The Cancer Research Center in India found that of the 77 mice That received a transplant in FIBROSARCOMA, 52 PERCENT SURVIVED more than one year with Homeopathic Remedies. The 77 mice That were untreated died within 10-15 days.10

PAIN CONTROL

Scientists at a BRITISH SCHOOL of PHARMACY found that rodents given Hypericum were able to INHIBIT PAIN RESPONSES. Rodents were able to remain on a hot plate longer than the control group. When given NaLoxone. which inhibits pain killing endorphins, the protective effects of Hypericum was reduced, showing that Homeopathic Hypericum activates endorphins when needed. Please note that these rodents were free to walk off the hot plate whenever discomfort was noticed.11

ALLERGIES

Homeopathic Apis and Histamine have a significant effect on reducing the release of certain allergy-causing chemicals from Basophils, which demonstrates one reason for Homeopathy’s positive effects on allergies.12

IMPROVED IMMUNE FUNCTION

A respected pharmacology journal showed that Homeopathic Silica had a significant effect on STIMULATING MACROPHAGES in mice, which destroy foreign particles, bacteria, and old cells.13

RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS

CLINICAL EVIDENCE: The British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology published a double-blind Homeopathy experiment on patients with RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS. An IMPRESSIVE 82 PERCENT OF THOSE GIVEN A HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINE EXPERIENCED SOME RELIEF OF SYMPTOMS, while only 21 percent of Those given a placebo experienced any similar degree of improvement. 14

DENTAL NEURALGIA

Another double-blind Homeopathy trial was conducted on patients with DENTAL NEURALGIC PAIN FOLLOWING tooth extraction. An impressive 76 PERCENT of those given the Homeopathic medicine Arnica and Hypericum EXPERIENCED RELIEF OF PAIN.15

VERTIGO & NAUSEA

The respected GERMAN PHARMACOLOGICAL JOURNAL demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in REDUCING VERTIGO AND NAUSEA with a Homeopathic combination formula.16

REDUCED LABOR TIME & COMPLICATIONS

French researchers recently completed a double-blind trial using a Homeopathic Formula to TREAT PREGNANT WOMEN. The study found this Homeopathic Formula to REDUCE LABOR TIME and DECREASE ABNORMAL LABOR. The average labor time of the women given the Homeopathic Formula was 5.1 HOURS, while the Placebo Group was 8.5 HOURS. ONLY 11.3 PERCENT OF THE WOMEN GIVEN THE HOMEOPATHIC FORMULA had any ABNORMAL LABOR, while 40 PERCENT of the Placebo Group had an ABNORMAL LABOR,17

THE HOMEOPATHIC RENAISSANCE

DIGNITARIES WHO HAVE SUPPORTED HOMEOPATHY:

In England, The Royal Family has regularly used Homeopathy since the 1830’s. Today, QUEEN ELIZABETH II is a patron to the famed Royal London Homeopathic Hospital and PRINCE CHARLES is known to carry Homeopathic medicines whenever he travels.

GAY GAER LUCE. Ph.D. (twice winner of The National Science Writer’s Award) said that, 'Homeopathy is a highly developed health practice that uses a systematic approach to the totality of a person’s health. Anyone seeking a fuller understanding of health and healing will find Homeopathy extremely important and applicable.'

MARK TWAIN once said: '.... (For) the introduction of Homeopathy, which forced the old school doctor to stir around and learn something of a rational nature about his business. YOU MAY HONESTLY FEEL GRATEFUL THAT HOMEOPATHY SURVIVED THE ATTEMPTS OF THE ALLOPATHS (THE ORTHODOX PHYSICIANS) TO DESTROY IT.' Harper’s Magazine. February 1890.

WILLIAM JAMES stated that, 'An enormous mass of experience, both of Homeopathic doctors and their patients, is invoked in favor of the efficacy of these remedies and doses.'

JOHN D. ROCKEFELLER thought that Homeopathy is a 'progressive and aggressive step in medicine.'

MAHATMA GANDHI declared that, 'Homeopathy. . . cures a larger percentage of cases than any other method of treatment and is beyond all doubt safer, more economical, and the most complete medical science.

Alan, you are arguing from popularity and personal incredulity, basically.

There are millions of books published about science fiction, thousands more every year. Does that mean everything in them is true?

ZepOz last decade
Well, the same thing applies to allopathic research too.

What was good yesterday is said to be bad today..and perhaps it becomes good again tomorrow.

Tomatoes is a good example. All types of reviews can be found, all quoting scientific research, statistics, evidence and what not.

However, the millions who are getting benefit by homeopathy, are using it, not because they read some books, but, because they are getting relief.

Most of the converts to homeopathy are those who have seen miraculous results, after everything else failed, including modern medicine.

Modern medicine really has nothing to offer for problems like arthritis, calcareous spurs, piles, fistula etc..except surgery and palliation through pain killers.

Homeopathy cures these conditions, when it is not too late.

Sbahl,

Did you make up this list? Or have you simply cut-and-pasted it from another source?

Have you verified these references? I mean actually verified that the reported results support your contentions?

Do you think citing emminent people who have no scientific qualifications whatsoever is going to validate the scientific results of any testing of homeopathy?

Incidentally, Mark Twain was not a proponent of homeopathy: '[I]f another citizen preferred to toy with death, and buy health in small parcels, to bribe death with a sugar pill to stay away, or go to the grave with all the original sweetners undrenched out of him, then the individual adopted the 'like cures like' system, and called in a homeopath physician as being a pleasant friend of death's.' Murthy,

The topic was not about allopathic medicine. And just saying it is bad does not automatically make any alternative good.

Incidentally, your knowledge of modern medicine must be a bit thin: All the conditions you listed CAN be dealt successfully with without either surgery or painkillers. Although those methods have not necessarily been discarded from the doctor's repetoire.

I have a number of serious issues with the major post posted yesterday.

A number of the references are from the ‘British Homeopathic Journal’. This is a free magazine to people who belong to a certain organisation. Cost of the organisation varies between 20 – 195 pounds (Ref http://www.trusthomeopathy.org/faculty/fac_lev.html). At that price, they cannot afford to have very good quality control.

As for the dignitaries, I would have expected many more names. Most (or all) have not have any science equalisations and are well known for other reasons, mostly sport. As one other person has pointed out the list may not be accurate.

One other paragraph was interesting ‘The Washington Post (April 28. 1983) reported That The number of PHYSICIANS PRACTICING HOMEOPATHY DOUBLED FROM 1980 TO 1983.’ This would be true if the number went up from one to two.

As for the magazine Homoeopathica cited as a reference in the above post, it costs $5 New Zealand each on subscription (http://www.homoeopathica.org.nz/ajournal.html ). Again, they would not be able to have good quality control.

There are many ways of learning about a subject. I have done enough study to reach certain conclusions about homeopathy. I understand what it is, how it works and why it works. This is a lot more than what people who practice it claim.

In conclusion, you will need to do a lot better than this. I strongly suspect that you cannot do better than copy stuff from the Internet and post it as your own.
