Dental Abscess – antibiotics prescribed to treat painful swelling but don’t wish to use them

Hello – I would be grateful for any advice with regard to the following

Early last week I noticed a slight tenderness on one tooth which over night turned intense pain – a quick visit to my dentist identified a dental abscess which was treated by a root canal filling – the pain went immediately and all seemed well – unfortunately overnight a distinct swelling appeared on the left side of my face

The lump quite painful to touch and is located slightly to the left of my nose - I revisited the dentist the next day who prescribed penicillin – not keen on using antibiotics , hence the request for advice.

The lump responds well to cold treatment and is worse when heated, pressure is builing and I can now feel a slight eruption on the gum directly below the lump.

No problems with the teeth now – no pain – the only problem is the discomfort from the lump – strange if I bend over it to pick something up it seems to cause a change to the pain which is normally just a dull ache but constant

Gum is now feeling bruised and tender as if it is going to erupt, but this cyclical during the day.

Any suggestions as to a remedy to ease the swelling?

Now a bit about me

52 years old, over weight with raised blood pressure and high cholesterol but working hard on both and exercise in the swimming pool 3 times a week

Currently suffer from psoriasis on scalp and elbows – dry scaly skin but no pus just itchy when hot – but sunshine does it a power of good

I’m a now classed as a bit of a grumpy old devil who speaks his mind a bit to often and does not mine being at the centre of any activity or being on my own as I enjoy my own company just as much as others.

Not keen on public speaking and can get quite nervous when called to do so – but have learned enough tricks to hide it.

Part of a small and very close family and at present without any great worries

Food preferences, like most food (except fish don’t know why), usually enjoy spicy food more, also have a sweet tooth but manage to control that most of the time

I don’t smoke and only drink a few glasses of red wine each week

Only major medical problem in the past was osteomyalitis some 40 years ago

Thanks for your help

I have taken the prescription you recommended i.e.
you are advise to following prescription for one month and report me.

1. Calc Carb 1000C weekly one dose i.e. every sunday
2. Hekla lava 3x 1 tab three times in a day
if powder then 2 grain three times ina day

The abscess went after a week or so but over the last few days there is a feeling of fullness/pressure building on the tooth again along with a very small pressure point on the gum near to the tooth.

Would you recommend I continue or adapt the prescription

hepar sulph would be another option - low dose ok at 6 or 12c - this one best if there has been pus

if no pus, silicae is another classic for abscess

I'm curious on the calc carb 1000c - that's a new one for me - the person who posted that, please explain if you would as I'd love to learn the specifics on that one.

take care and best of health.
