Can anyone help me with potencies?

Ive heard it said that a 12x "roughly" equals a 6c. Is this true? I understand that one is x's 100 and the other is x's 1000. What would be the benefit of using a C potency over an X? Is it based soley on trial and error? And is a 12X still considered "a lower potency" as would be indicated for chronic illnesses? Sorry for so many questions. Any help is greatly appreciated!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
The different potency scales have somewhat different effects. X is more crude (less diluted) than C and has a diminished ability to heal - although having said that X is more suited to certain kinds of cases. The C scale, and the LM scale above it, go more deeply into a patient's case than X does. X is more useful for broad general symptoms rather than the kind of specific peculiar ones.
