Reflux?!

My son was born prematurely at 29 weeks. He is now almost 4 months corrected age. He had swallow test and had reflux but nothing major. It seems like its getting worst and worst. After almost every feeding he starts crying and arching his back. I bought the Nat Phos 6 but the dosage is from 2 and up. I read couple stories where it really helped and want to try. Anyone with premie, 8lb 3oz? Thanks!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Try using 1/2 tablet. Dissolve it in a bit of water like
a teaspoon. Dropper that into his mouth or use the spoon.

You can do this after a feeding. Do not exceed 5 doses
in 24 hours. Give this a few days to see how it goes.
As baby gets better you reduce the amount of doses.

There are other remedies to use if this does not work out
for you.

These questions mostly do not apply to a 4 month old..hello.
Reflux.Colic is also usually an acute condition that
resolves on its own and no one knows the cause of it.

Since Joe's protocol for nat phos is already all over the internet
and many people use this, I don't see any problem with
trying this out if Moms already have the remedy , like
this Mom does-Dr Judyth Ullman - in her acute home book-has around 12 remedies and questions
and materia medica on reflux /colic and suggests using a remedy in
a 30 c 3 times and if it does not work, move on to the next best match.

So if Nat phos does not work, I use her book and questions..

Simone

I visited the ABC today and am simply amazed at the questionnaire that is posted on this thread.

The patient is a preemie born in 29 weeks with a corrected age of 4 months. At this age, the baby’s digestive system is not developed and the mother is indeed fortunate that she posted on the ABC and that you have prescribed Nat Phos 6x. If she had consulted a pediatrician, the standard PPI drugs would have been prescribed with disastrous results.

I am indeed very surprised to note that the poor mother is expected to patiently answer about 100 questions to qualify for that “Single remedy to treat the TOTALITY of the Symptoms the patient presents”

I hope that this attitude on the part of classical homeopaths will change in my lifetime as I have conclusively proved that there is absolutely no justification to subject a patient who seeks a cure for his/her ailment to this barrage of unnecessary questions which are so detailed that it will take many hours, perhaps days, for the patient to respond.

I note your reference to “Joe’s Protocol” aka “Joepathy” and Nat Phos 6x is the Ultimate safe remedy which will usually help Baby in a few hours after the second dose. It is unfortunate that my therapy which I discovered in 2005 is not generally prescribed by homeopaths as this remedy is not listed in the text books they used which I too studied 40 years ago and when I discovered that the classical formula was not effective, I then changed over to my own therapy which was derisively labelled “Joepathy” by a coterie of classical homeopaths on many forums which I used to visit for the last 10 years and decided to establish my own Forum which many patients and mothers visit for advice.

If Nat Phos 6x alone does not work, I prescribe Nux Vominca 30c in the Wet dose to reinforce the action of the Nat Phos 6 which can be given before a feed but not over twice daily. Start with Half tablet and increase to a Full tablet if baby does not respond. Some mothers have given up to 8 tablets in 24 hours with no side effects. However it is best to stay with under 6 tablets.

I noticed that you suggested that baby is given NP before a feed and this too sometimes works if the remedy given after does not help.

There is no way to run a consultation the proper way on an internet forum, with questions being asked appropriate to the situation and answers engendering further questions. What we must do unfortunately is simply provide a large number of questions that MAY relate to the patient's situation and allow them to answer what they can. Yes this is generic, but otherwise it would take too long asking questions back and forth.

Using any remedy without proper symptoms is not homoeopathy and certainly runs risks, as all of our medicines can have negative results when used in other ways(like allopathy is prescribed for instance). Nat-phos is not safe if used in an unsafe manner, which any of our remedies may be.

Yes you can use first aid books to prescribe. That might work, or it might not.

What I said, in posting this questionnaire, is that if Oliverek wishes to get the best results she can answer these questions. It is entirely up to her. I do not have any vested interest in what decision she makes. Questionnaires are posted here all the time - why suddenly take issue with this one?

Do not make the mistake of thinking that infants are easy cases. They are not. I see a lot of them in my own clinic, and I spend almost as long with them as I do with adult clients. The information you need to get is often difficult, and may require even more attention to slight details than with adults who can verbalise much of what is going on inside of them.

I also do not agree with the idea that you just 'use one thing and move on to the next if that does not work'. As practitioners we owe it to patients to do the BEST job we can do based on the information we gather. Why should the child's suffering be extended any longer just because we can't be bothered taking the time to do it properly?

I have no interest in discussing therapies that use our medicines but break all the principles meant to safeguard our patients. I have seen plenty of arguments from genuine homoeopathic practitioners with such people on various websites over the years, and I am not interested in engaging in such an argument at all.

Dr Ullman considers reflux/colic an acute condition.

She asks the questions, and the remedy is prescribed on the matching
symptoms like any acute condition.

If after 3 tries with a remedy it has no effect, then the remedy
is wrong and she advises to try another remedy. Often the colic, etc
can be solved in a few hours.

As far as cell salts Nat phos is the main one used for acid alkaline
balance .

The Nat phos is not going to be used in an Unsafe manner and Dr. Ullmans
books and others I have are not first aid- and btw these are not YOUR MEDICINES
or OUR medicines as you like to say - Nat phos is in the supermarket,
and anyone can misuse any medicine or vitamin for that matter.

I think these questions are overkill for an acute condition.

For the patient- don't be worried about trying this a few times.

As you said:'There is no way to run a consultation the proper way on an internet forum, with questions being asked appropriate to the situation' - Most of your questions are very unapropriate for a 4 months old baby! Thank you anyway.

Simone and Joe:

Thank you for your prompt reply. I gave Oliver 3 half tablets already. It looked like it was little better. He spit up 1hr 15min after the last feeding and its bothering him again:( Shall I just jump to the before dosage then? I hate to give him medication but its so hard to watch him in pain.

Thank you!

Oliverek last decade
Hi Oliverek,

What do you mean - jump to the before dosage?

and Oliverek, are you located in the usa?

thanks,Simone717

Actually the majority of those questions are quite appropriate - it is the mental/emotional questions that are probably of less value at his age. As I said, I posted the whole questionnaire, I assume the patient will only answer what is relevant based on the situation since I can't go through it question by question.

I have seen people on this website posting questionnaires for children that mention menstruation, employment, sexual relationships etc. Nobody would presume those would need to be answered.

Feel free to use that questionnaire as a basis for providing information if you need to at some point. Good luck with the current treatment and I hope your little one improves.

Evocationer last decade
Hi Simone, I was asking about your recommendation to use it before feeding.. which I did already. I will let you know tomorrow how it works.

Yes, we are in NY.

Oliverek last decade
Hi Oliverek,

I was asking about usa, bc I suggest if this does not work,
that you talk to a real homeopath by phone. On acute things
like this you can google Mary Aspinwall, a master homeopath in
Santa Barbara, she will do acute cases by phone and the cost
is $50 with a couple follow ups. She has decades of experience and
also teaches homeopathy.

Another master homeopath and teacher is Lia Bello in New Mexico
who is also a nurse practitioner. She will also work by phone with
you, take the childs case and the cost is about the same last time
I looked.

These are much better options than online and both these
homeopaths are Moms also.

Feel free to email me if you want to about any of this- you can
click on any poster's name and see their profile and email.

Regards,

Simone717
