atonic seizures leading to grandmal

Firstly can extend a big 'thank you' to anyone who takes the time to read and answer this-I appreciate it. Secondly,I wish to say I no longer take conventional medication so there is no need to worry about this.

Profile-age:39 build:5'2 reasonable slim sex:woman
job:partial employment as teacher, likes talking to people being busy.

What happens/symptoms
1. Difficult to say but seizure begins with a mugginess in the head-not being able to think clearly then progresses to atonic drops where I catch myself falling either my head or my legs dropping.A kind of wave sensation in the head with electric cut outs. These may progress to full grand mal fits (rarely) which last for 2-3 mins-recovery afterwards takes around 30mins-1 hour.

General history of health
a) No major diseases-pretty healthy.
Epilepsy
b) My epilepsy began roughly at 8 or 9 yrs when my body started to change it then got worse with the onset of puberty at age 11. Put on medication (sodium valporate.)

Particular events
Puberty and also I was always a very emotionally sensitive child particularly to my father irritability and fights between parents. Always suppressed emotions as a child.

Present situation
Now my fits correspond the first week of my cycle-when progesterone is at its lowest and in the morning shortly after waking.

Periods
No periods as I have progesterone coil but my body still keeps to some kind of cycle and progesterone level still drops in 'first week'.

Triggers
3. It is worst if I drink any alcohol, when I'm dehydrated usually as I sweat a lot especially as I get hot at night, when I haven't had enough sleep, under stressful conditions, after eyestrain on computer

When it gets worse-usually from atonic-grand mal
when I'm anxious/stressed e.g. a sudden phone call to be at a particular place at a particular time, have to rush out the house/when I'm late. Unable to calm my thoughts/anxieties/excitabilities

Time of day fits happen
Always shortly after waking (within 5-10 mins after having difficulty waking up and clearing head) Always worse in 1st week of the menstrual cycle with sudden drop in progesterone.

When it feels better (after grand mal)
4. It feels better when I'm warm, after sleeping well and drinking a glass of water. Through fresh air, when I'm not kept somewhere/I'm allowed to move not made to sit down, when I feel reassured.

After atonic
after calming myself mentally through meditative techniques drinking lots of water

Sensitivities
5. I am sensitive to fear of failure, excessive heat, too much processed food (e.g. white bread, cream buns, too much caffeine.

Mood present
6. Fear of underachievement, irritability, frustration at times. Not getting things done. frustrated and fearful of having fit when teaching if I feel bad in morning. Excitability of teaching may progress any atonic fits to grand mal.

Cravings for food and drink
7. Cravings for food are creamy chocolate things (e.g. cream eclairs)or conversely salty things e.g. cheese/olives salami. For drinks-none I can think of. I usually drink green tea with honey/occasional coffee and kefir. I rarely drink so occasional craving for beer or a glass of wine. Craving for water in the middle of the night as I sweat a lot always have). Does not seem to quench thirst though.

When I gave up the drugs
. Gave up sodium valporate when pregnant with first child at 30yr which was when I discovered link between drop in progesterone/hormones as I only had minor drop seizures.

Previous homeopathic treatment

Went to two homeopaths one under the NHS who put me on cuprum (1M) every week (twice) then every 4 weeks. Second homeopath also gave me cuprum to allay grand mal seizures. I take cuprum 30 now after atonic seizures which often stop the seizures progressing to grand mal. Sometimes I take cocculus 30 when I'm tired.

Energy levels
Very energetic when I am busy with teaching (which I love) but otherwise when not teaching lower. Frustrated by inability to motivate myself

Sexual drive:
Highest in second week of cycle. Otherwise not really high.

Thank you once again for your help it is much appreciated.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Please tell some thing more about your eating habits, salt intake and the specific areas where you sweat, its odor etc

My diet is generally very healthy with organic vegetables rice, very little meat. I eat pasta once a week, and rarely buy cakes because I eat too many/can't stop so avoid the temptation. I do like bread, but I tend to cook this myself from sourdough although occasionally eat white bread. I tend to crave cheese more than sweet things and snacks tend to centre around cheese, bread. I don't tend to add much salt (if any) to my cooking, but I chop but bacon to go with pasta sauce.
Odour of sweat-oh that's difficult-quite bitter scent/musky- gets unpleasant and overpowering if deodrants are not used.

Was there any skin ailment in the past which you may have suppressed.Any swelling in your body due to water retention. You have not specified the area where you sweat,or is it the whole body.State of the pillow due to sweating etc.

anuj srivastava last decade
Yes, I probably still have water retention to some degree mostly around my stomach and ankles-so yes this can be a problem and uncomfortable. I've never taken medication for this however. The only other thing I can think of was a course of antibiotics taken when I was 8 to get a tick's head out of my body. As an adult I used to get cystitis (no longer) which I used to also take a course of antibiotics for and also afterwards I had thrush.
Another minor ailment which I had was a case of genital warts which were burned off and twice my batholin's glands became infected (abscesses twice in my 30s) which also ended up each time with a course of antibiotics. So this was suppressed.

The final thing I had treatment for was my liver when I was 27 by a homeopath (nux vom)as I had bad breath. Probably from the drugs I took. This cleared up very quickly.

The pillow is usually ok my face feels hot, but I sweat mostly from under my arms, around my pubic region, around my neck and on the soles of my feet but I don't sweat so much that I leave marks on the bed. I also have athlete's foot on my left foot and on my nails.

Thank you so much for your time.

Take Kali Mur 6x and Kali Phos 6x 5 tabs of each three times a day .Both biochemical medicines. Will prescribe homeopathic ones am very sure abt your symptoms.Till then please keep jotting every symptom down.Give me a feed back after three days. And yes are you still taking cuprum .

anuj srivastava last decade
Thank you , that's very kind. I will keep a diary. I will have to order them so I won't start taking them for about another 3 days. Yes I still take the cuprum if I have the drop feeling. Is this ok? I will report back in about a week. I am desperate to try and improve further as it does eat away at my confidence. Thanks.

yes feel good factor is important.so continue it.

Thank you for your help. I haven't worked out how to post a document, so I might include it on a website somewhere, as I can't understand how to attach it. I will try and find a solution to this.

I have written some key points in my diary. On a general positive note I have found this remedy very helpful for dehydration, the sweating etc... It is too soon really to make any long term assessment of it's impact on my epilepsy, however since dehydration was a major problem in resulting in atonic seizures I imagine it will have helped significantly here.

17th May (1 small glass of wine)
This is the second day of taking medication. I feel more balanced, and I am no longer craving cream cakes, although I ate one today, it was more a treat rather than a craving-something I could take or leave.
I haven’t been waking up feeling so hot and I haven’t needed to take a glass of water to bed. Although not sure if this coincides with a general temperature drop. Clean taste in mouth.
18th May (1/2 glass of wine)
(Evening) I noticed I am hungrier especially at night as if my metabolism has speeded up. Husband complained about an offensive smell coming from the inside of my body (not mouth) I wonder if it could be related to this. Definitely much cooler at night now, and I’m sweating less and smell is less pungent. Water seems to be used in a much more economical way around my body.
19th May
Nothing new-still feel hungrier in the evening. Went for a walk with family. Feeling of agitation throughout the day today and intense feelings of irritability.
20th May
Felt quite sick and headachey in the morning around 7.00am which is very unusual. Decided not to go to work but then started to feel better and received a call at 8:30 to work for half a day which I took up. I rushed to catch the bus but I noticed I was quite calm despite having a headache-no anxiety. Being muggy headed can be a warning sign to epilepsy which inevitably leads to anxiety but on this occasion I felt tired but had no seizures.
On a further positive note have started to research for a writing course which I have been procrastinating over.
21st May-weather low pressure cloudy/raining
Woke up feeling slightly headachey again today. Had difficulty waking at 7. Slight fluttering of eyelids. Took 1 cuprum and homeopathic medicine. Headachey feeling continued and at 7:25 just as I was about to leave the house I had atonic seizure which lasted approx. 2 seconds with leg giving way momentarily and an electrical on off repetitive switch feeling in my head like the flickering of a light. I steadied myself and continued as normal. No repeat of atonic seizure although headachey feeling continued for around an hour. Breathing felt slightly constricted although I felt calm I had to remind myself to breathe properly. No further problems through the day,

22nd May
Again slightly headachey in morning but cleared up more quickly. Slight atonic seizure lasting literally half a second. Carried on as normal.

23rd/ 24th
Had a meal with friend (lamb) which resulted in loss of appetite the next day
25th/ 26th
Appetite returned to normal-no further epileptic symptoms.

27th, slightly fuzzy feeling in the middle of the day in my head which felt epileptic. No major problems. This could also have been from too much time spent at the computer.

Please get Argentum Nit 200, have 5 tabs ones only. Dont discontinue the other medicines.

anuj srivastava last decade
Sorry, do you want me to take only 5 tablets of arg nit 200? IS this correct? Is this once a day?
Thanks

llanarth last decade
Only one time do not repeat till i say.

1st June,
Bad day today as I had a grand mal fit in morning although with quick recovery although some residual headache. Probably triggered by a combination of anxiety and not quite enough sleep and an earlier start than usual. Feel fine presently

llanarth last decade
When did you have Argentum Nit ?

anuj srivastava last decade
I took the arg nit yesterday evening(Sunday) so the symptoms on Saturday were nothing to do with this.
No symptoms as yet...
A slight headache seems to be an auror, but the anxiety accompanying this plus getting up at 6:30 in order to catch the train to work (on Saturday)must have added to this. Once I'd escaped the A and E department I worked as usual til 8pm.

Mild headache, if after taking medicines is a positive sign,so dont bother about it, will go away in due course of time.Repeat Argentum on the third day of taking the first dose, same time and give feed back. What about your body odor, and thirst?

anuj srivastava last decade
Body odor and thirst are so much better. My whole body's management of water is very positive and efficient now and in this sense the homeopathic medicine has been extremely effective and quick too, thank you. I will repeat the dose on the third day as suggested.
