The ABC Homeopathy Forum

extreme fatigue & diabetes

Hello all. I would like to ask a homeopathic practitioner for guidance.

I have been fighting high blood sugar and insulin resistance for the last ten years. I had been using allopathy(metformin)successfully for the last 3 years, but without healing.

I want to be healed.

I am currently not taking the med and my average glucose is 135.

I feel like I am so close to controlling the symptoms with diet, exercise and supplements, but am annoyed with the extreme fatigue. I don't really feel satisfied unless I eat the carbohydrate, but as soon as I do I am immediately weak and tired. I cannot function and I feel spacey and must sleep. Instead of getting energy from my food, I feel it is poisoning me. This happens all the time.

Also, my right foot is extremely itchy, cracking, peeling and dry. The toenails are powdery and peeling.

I have a constant rushing in my ears and love coffee.

I tend toward obsessive/compulsive behavior. I do not clean my house very often because I am so busy with my family duties.

My feelings are hurt very easily. I feel bad right away. I feel worthless when this happens.

I crave fresh air and have to be cozy with covers at night.

I am 5'2" and 175 lbs and am slowly losing weight with the metformin.

I know there is no quick fix for this, and I am not looking for one. I have been researching homeopathy, but I need help deciding on the best remedy, potency and dosage. I don't have a homeopath to rely on, but have used this healing art with success before. Please help me put this together. I feel trapped. Regards, Joy

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
you are doing well - pls don't despair!
Diabetes is a condition not a disease, that you can learn to live with - and it sounds like you are on the right tracks. Think of 'healing' as living with your diabetes as I doubt you will get rid of the diabetes...
have you investigated the glycaemic index information (foods with high and low glycaemic index)? this gives you a better chance to satisfy your carbohydrate needs without all the 'ups and downs'.
It also helps if you eat BEFORE you get too hungry rather than wait until the cravings come on (the cravings mean that your sugars are too low and when satisfied with a surge of carbos this gives a sudden high!).
Have a look at all of this and also take Phos-Ac 30c three times daily for 3 days to see if this helps your present situation.

Hello Erika. Thank you for the reply.

I have been using the glycemic index recently. It really does help. I have to be prepared with meals all the time. It seems food is all I think about...

I am going to try Phos Ac 30c. I saw this in my research, too, but haven't gotten it yet. Perhaps it will lower the overall blood sugar. That would be great! If not, I have to consider going back to allopathy. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again, Joy

Phos-Ac will help your body cope well with the effects of the blood-sugars, loss of fluid etc. and will help level out your energy. Together with your medication and diet this will help level the blood-sugars.
Let me know how you get on :)

I would like to share with you reports of the successful treatment of blood sugar using my favourite remedy Arnica. I have had 3 reports so far of Arnica 30c in the Wet Dose lowering blood sugar and would like to suggest that you too use it twice daily and report results which will be noticed within 24 hours of your using this amazing remedy.

You must stop all drugs and other remedies that you are using for at least 24 hours before taking Arnica 30 which is made up as follows:

Get a 500ml bottle of Spring Water from your nearest supermarket.
Pour out 100ml
Drop in 3 pellets or 1 drop of liquid Arnica 30c into the 400ml water
Cap the bottle tightly and succuss it 4-6 times by banging on your palm and look out for the air bubbles to fizzle up from the bottom.
Pour out 1 teaspoonful of the potentized remedy and sip it twice daily with the last dose taken last thing at night.

Please report response in 2 days after you use this remedy.

Hello Joy, I have been gone through with same condition you are suffering with extreame fatigie due to diabetes. I had diabetes last year by mid February 04, when I was tested for suger level with extreme fatigue, my sugar level was 350 and I was given donil by the AP docotor. Till june 05, I was using donil daily 1 tablet of 5mg. and suffering the same fatigue. By searching any natual ailment, I read about cinnamin, and start using it. Now since two months I don't need to take donil or any pill for controlling my suger. I just take cinnamin tea daily 3 times, which is made by less than half tea spoon of cinnamin powder added to regular tea or just simply into hot water. Cinnamin has been studied and proved it is helpful to make bloood sensitive to insulin. There is no harm trying it as Cinnamin is a food additive as spice in many cultures. Please also try Joe's priscription of Arnica, which I'm also going to take soon.
All the best. Zeek

I am glad that you mentioned Cinnamon which has been proved to help by reducing blood sugar levels in diabetics. I have used it here in Sri Lanka and some diabetics were able to stop their tablets and use the Cinnamon only. I had lost sight of this remedy in my post above and am glad that you recorded it.

I am aware that it is now being used extensively throughout the world as an equivalent to the medication used in tablet form for diabetics and many were able to stop the tablets and replace them with Cinnamon.

In the case of Arnica I discovered a few weeks ago that it helped diabetics in the same manner and tests are now being carried out in Mumbai and New Delhi to verify this discovery.

It may interest you to know that Cinnamon was first mentioned in an article in the New Scientist which I shall copy below.

Cinnamon spice produces healthier blood

Just half a teaspoon of cinnamon a day significantly reduces blood sugar levels in diabetics, a new study has found. The effect, which can be produced even by soaking a cinnamon stick your tea, could also benefit millions of non-diabetics who have blood sugar problem but are unaware of it.

The discovery was initially made by accident, by Richard Anderson at the US Department of Agriculture's Human Nutrition Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland.

"We were looking at the effects of common foods on blood sugar," he told New Scientist. One was the American favourite, apple pie, which is usually spiced with cinnamon. "We expected it to be bad. But it helped," he says.

Sugars and starches in food are broken down into glucose, which then circulates in the blood. The hormone insulin makes cells take in the glucose, to be used for energy or made into fat.

But people with Type 1 diabetes do not produce enough insulin. Those with Type 2 diabetes produce it, but have lost sensitivity to it. Even apparently healthy people, especially if they are overweight, sedentary or over 25, lose sensitivity to insulin. Having too much glucose in the blood can cause serious long-term damage to eyes, kidneys, nerves and other organs.

Molecular mimic

The active ingredient in cinnamon turned out to be a water-soluble polyphenol compound called MHCP. In test tube experiments, MHCP mimics insulin, activates its receptor, and works synergistically with insulin in cells.

To see if it would work in people, Alam Khan, who was a postdoctoral fellow in Anderson's lab, organised a study in Pakistan. Volunteers with Type 2 diabetes were given one, three or six grams of cinnamon powder a day, in capsules after meals.

All responded within weeks, with blood sugar levels that were on average 20 per cent lower than a control group. Some even achieved normal blood sugar levels. Tellingly, blood sugar started creeping up again after the diabetics stopped taking cinnamon.

The cinnamon has additional benefits. In the volunteers, it lowered blood levels of fats and "bad" cholesterol, which are also partly controlled by insulin. And in test tube experiments it neutralised free radicals, damaging chemicals which are elevated in diabetics.

Buns and pies

"I don't recommend eating more cinnamon buns, or even more apple pie - there's too much fat and sugar," says Anderson. "The key is to add cinnamon to what you would eat normally."

The active ingredient is not in cinnamon oils. But powdered spice can be added to toast, cereal, juice or coffee.

Anderson's team were awarded patents related to MHCP in 2002. But the chemical is easily obtained. He notes that one of his colleagues tried soaking a cinnamon stick in tea. "He isn't diabetic - but it lowered his blood sugar," Anderson says.

The group now plans to test even lower doses of cinnamon in the US, and also look at long-term blood sugar management with the spice.

Dear Joe De Livera and Zeek2005,

I thank you for your posts. Joe, I started using cinnamon a while ago for high blood sugars after reading your suggestion on this forum. It does help. I put it in yogurt and drinks and just about anything else imaginable. I understand a person can overdo cinnamon. It is tempting to eat a lot of it when you find it helping. What are your thoughts?

Since I am not taking any medication (I find it tempting to use the RX as a crutch or excuse to eat certain foods), diet is REALLy the key. So cinnamon is a good tool. I also use ginseng and gymne sylvestre. All of this helps, but eating the wrong foods works against it.

Joe, I must say I noticed quite accidentally one day upon taking Arnica for something else in the past that when I tested my blood, the sugar number took a distinct dip. That held for about a week, then the glucose number rose again. I haven't been able to get the same results again using Arnica. Did I antidote the Arnica? Or maybe because it was 30x, not 30c? I'd like your input on this.

Also, I use the wet dose with great success. J

joy50 last decade
Yes, I agree - I have also found arnica helps, in any potency, to lower blood sugars....but particularly 200c.
szygium also as a mother tincture can be useful.
phos-ac is very good while the exhaustion is there as it helps rebalance the dehydration/electrolyte balance etc.

erika last decade
Can I take arnica 200c while taking phos ac 30c. Both as wet dose. Or is it best to take arnica after completing phos ac?

joy50 last decade
Also, for how long would I expect to take arnica 200c for this?

Thank you for your inputs on Arnica. It gives me great satisfaction in being able to share my observations on the use of various remedies on an open forum such as this which gives those of us who are interested and dedicated to promoting Homeopathy, the possibility of sharing our successes and failures with remedies to treat various ailments. I believe that this is essential to ensure that homeopathy progresses into the future with remedies that were proved centuries ago being used for the treatment of ailments that are not listed in the Reps and MM's.

I was very interested to note that you, Erika had already discovered that Arnica 200 was more potent in reducing Blood Sugar and I shall mention it to my friends in India who are currently carrying out trials on Arnica and it effect on Diabetes. I note that you have also experience with using Szygium Q and I wonder what the results can be if this remedy is used daily. In the case of Arnica I have, as you probably know, used the lower potencies 6 and 30c every night for 10 years and can testify to its other advantages like acting as a 'tonic' in the body. This effect is useful when one is a senior citizen and at 76, I am surprised at myself and my ability to be active as I have been throughout my life, without any ache or pain, which I am now convinced is thanks to Arnica.

I do hope that others who may read this post will carry out their own investigations with Arnica for Diabetes and record their response on this forum. It will be observed that the use of Arnica is far better than the use of other drugs commonly prescribed for Diabetes which will eventually take its toll on the body.

Answering your question about using the 6x potency for Diabetes, I believe that you have already discovered your answer that this low potency does not work. I am confident that the 30c upwards should reduce your BS. I would not advise the use of the 200c on a daily basis which is essential for the control of Diabetes and suggest that you stay with the 30c which I have already used and discovered is very satisfactory to help Diabetics.

To Erika, I have taken Phos Ac 30c 3 times per day for 3 days. So far I feel good. I also went back to the metformin because the therapies I am using were not keeping the blood glucose within normal range. Thank you for helping me. If you have any other suggestions please let me know.

Regards, Joy

Hi joy - this all sounds positive and I am pleased for you! If you start feeling the healing effect of phos-ac dwindling and your exhaustion creeps back then take phos-ac again for another day. IF this doesn't help then come back for some more suggestions on remedies.
Other suggestions would be stick to the good diet you are on and exercise, gently, regularly. Be careful not to exercise vigorously when your blood sugars are very high as this can cause them to increase. WAlking is the best exercise.

To Gaikwad

Thank you for resurrecting an old thread which dates back to September 2005.

I am copying my instructions to make the Wet dose of Arnica 6c which you can make with BIsleri water:

The Wet dose of any Homeopathic remedy is made as follows:

Order the remedy in a 5ml Ethanol pack also referred to as Liquid Dilution in a bottle preferably with a dropper arrangement.
Get a 500ml bottle of Spring Water from the nearest supermarket.
Pour out about 3cm of water from the bottle to leave some airspace.
Insert 3 drops of the remedy into the bottle and shake the bottle hard before you sip a capfull of the bottle or a large teaspoonful which is the dose.
Shaking the bottle hard is homeopathic succussion and this shaking must be done every time before sipping a capful of the bottle as directed.
