There are dozens of snake remedies - we have Elaps, Naja, Black mamba, Crot-h, Crot-c, Python reg, Boa, many more. Assuming the patient is a snake and not another animal, one snake remedy will not replace another, it must be the correct snake. Each one has its own unique picture, while sharing some snake qualities with the others.
The Calc-Conch relationship is an interesting one. I have used Conch with success but only by using the kingdom and group themes, since it has no proving. There are some issues of protection and defence and walls and security, but they are very muted in Conch. Instead there are issues of layers and value, of being precious, issues around the eyes and sight and clarity, issues of beauty and art. What I did notice was that there were common mineral themes of structure and organization. Another interesting thing was that the sensation of the shell is much more fragile in Conch than in Calc. Calc forms a solid barrier for protection. Behind that protection they feel safe. My Conch patient spoke of her protection being limited, weak, which I imagine is because it is just one layer of the shell. She expressed a desire for a sturdier shell, but had something that was less than what she needed.
If there are animal themes present in the case, you would need to consider Oyster or some of the other bivalve molluscs - Clam, Mussel, Scallop. All of them have the issue of a protective barrier or shell.
You might also need to consider Pearl. I had a successful case needing this remedy and he expressed all the timidity and lack of confidence of Calc, the sensitivity to being looked at, but his basic feeling was that people around him try to get to some precious core of creativity he has, and steal it. He described his creativity as a perfect white sphere buried deep inside, and he felt people were trying to corrupt it, would try to get inside him to ruin it. They would use all sorts of ways to do that - he described hammering, burning, using acid and toxins - it was a fascinating case.
