Seeking advice for Hyperthyroidism/Hashimoto's

Hello Sameer,

I am a 29 year old Canadian female of Caribbean/European ethnic origin. Today I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, and possibly Hashimoto's thyroiditis and given a prescription for a thyroid suppressor. I'm investigating what complementary options I have. I am very familiar with homeopathy, since I had a homeopath that I worked with for the past two years. I am also willing to take the medications ordered by my doctor.

My symptoms are as follows: enlarged thyroid gland, with periodic external swelling, no pain, protruding eyes, which I've had for a long time, numb big toes( mostly the left one), fatigue, periodic insomnia, mood swings, extreme sensitivity, uncontrollable, periodic weepiness, weight loss (about 15 lbs since the winter), some shaking in my hands (not constant, but I notice that my hands are simply not as steady as I remember). I have also felt some periodic anxiety and restlessness.

Timeline: I'm not sure when the swelling started, but I think it was around July of this year. I didn't notice it- it only came to my attention two weeks ago. The fatigue is recent, probably within two months or so. The numbness is within the last two weeks, and it is not always there. The weight loss is since the winter, and I never thought it was a problem, since I've been doing lots of yoga, and eating a largely vegetarian diet. The emotional swings/weepiness have been going on since the summer- maybe August. I assumed this was other factors in my life. Normally a week before my menstrual cycle, I become more mentally and emotionally sensitive, but ever since August it has occurred at unusual times in my cycle, and doesn't seem to always correlate with pre-menstruation or ovulation.

I saw my doctor last week, and met with her again today- I did blood tests and thyroid scans, and the thyroid hormones ( T3 and T4?) were 4x what they should be. (The correct range, as I understand, is 12-22, and mine was 64). I don't know if my TSH levels are low, I just did more blood tests today. The ultrasound showed an enlarged thyroid gland. She has ordered more blood tests to determine whether or not there are thyroid anti-bodies present in my blood.

My primary question is: what homeopathic remedies might I take that would not interfere with this medication? I just went to fill the prescription, I believe what she prescribed is called Tapazole. I don't usually take medication, and I do not want to take thyroid medication for the rest of my life. I also am very opposed to getting an operation to remove my thyroid. I am looking for ways to improve my thyroid so I can avoid further action in the future. I really, really appreciate any help you can offer me with this issue.

Thank you so much,

Billie

Hello,

Hang on a minute. Are you Sameer? He was the one who was recommended to me :)

Thank you.

Hi Billie,

Please go in further detail about the following. Explain what you mean by the following and if needed use examples:

numb big toes( mostly the left one)-- when does this happen ? what makes it better/worse ?

fatigue--when does this happen ? what makes it better/worse ?

periodic insomnia-- when does this happen ? what makes it better/worse ? what are the times ? what is the pattern ?

mood swings, extreme sensitivity, uncontrollable, periodic weepiness -- what do you mean by this ?

some shaking in my hands (not constant, but I notice that my hands are simply not as steady as I remember). when does this happen ? what makes it better/worse ?

I have also felt some periodic anxiety and restlessness. --when does this happen ? what makes it better/worse ? what is the anxiety about ? Define this restlessness further.

What else can you tell me about yourself ?

What are your temperature/weather preferences ?

What other things in general impact you ?

What diseases run in your family ?

Anything you would like to change about yourself ? Any area of life where you feel unable to move or feel stuck ?

Please describe your food cravings or aversions if any.

Hello Sameer,

Thank you so much for replying to my post. I really appreciate it.

You should know that I have been taking thyroid medication (specifically, a thyroid blocker named Tapazole) for the last month or so, and many of the symptoms I am describing have lessened considerable. But I will try and describe the symptoms nonetheless.

Numb big toes. Constant. Some massage helped, but not much.

Fatigue- In the morning. I get the feeling like I 'can't wake up'. Slept for many hours at a time, even when I slept early, this sleeping helped somewhat.

Insomnia- Before menses, almost every month. During this time, I cannot fall asleep until 2-3am, or wake up in the middle of the night-4am-unable to get back to sleep until a few hours later. Yoga helps a lot, specifically downward dog and bridge postures.

Moods, weepiness- Essentially, when something bothers me, I cannot at all control my reactions, which are larger than usual. I am usually reacting to things that have always bothered me, particularly intimidation and humiliation. If I feel humiliated, for example, it is not uncommon for me to cry uncontrollably for an hour at a time. Humiliation has always been something I am sensitive to, but normally I might cry, but not as long or in the same way. Lately, these reactions feel way beyond my control. If people that love me try to help, I might push them away, not wanting to be seen, but at the same time desperately needing help. I however, in this state, do not want to be seen needing help.

Restlessness/Anxiety- Generally, these feelings correlate to two things: my relationship and my career. In short, when I feel this way, it is because I feel I will make the wrong decision and then have no way out. I have feelings of unworthiness that are attached to this anxiety. When I feel anxious, I usually cry hard and feel pain in my stomach. It's common for me to experience indigestion, but this is also something I experience due to anxiety. The crying relieves the anxiety.
I feel restless if I've been in the house for more than one day doing work in the house, or if I'm in a social environment I don't want to be in. I usually feel a very strong need to move my body, and this helps, for example taking a walk outside, or changing my environment.

About myself: Sensitive, critical, humanistic, daydream a lot, love to dance, like to laugh and sing, like to write and speak, verbose, value articulate, critical people, serious, cerebral, like to be alone, need regular society to be healthy, love to bake and prepare food.

I like warm temperatures, dry sunny weather, dry cold weather. I love autumn weather.

I am deeply affected by most violence. I often have to leave the room when violence is portrayed on television. I am deeply affected by sexual violence, and can be affected by certain portrayals or descriptions of sexuality even when there is no violence. I am affected by anything I perceive to be broad or crude, either an attitude from someone, or a joke, etc. I am impressed by intelligent, kind and worldly people. I appreciate manners and reserve and dislike things or people I perceive to be vulgar.

Diseases: I believe there is Alzheimer's and kidney stones that run on both sides of my family.

I feel stuck sometimes when it comes to my personal life- primarily with issues of trust and courage in relation to the opposite sex. I have been dealing with these issues for many years. I am actively practicing trusting my boyfriend, and evaluate when a problem is 'real or imagined/exaggerated'. I go through cycles of feeling stuck with every aspect of my life, and generally I fear being 'stuck' in any situation. I often say that I need to feel like any room I'm in has an available door! I would like to change my sensitivity and inability to let things go. Or better put, I would like to better use these traits, instead of letting them 'get the better of me'.

I love food generally! I love bread, sweets like cake and custard, sesame, honey, almonds, fresh fruit ( I love apples, red grapes, pineapple, cherry, berries), I love green vegetables, and genuinely crave food like oats, rapini, kale and brown rice. I love miso too!

I don't think I have any real aversions that I can think of!

Please let me know if you need anything else. Again, I am so grateful for your response to my post.

Doses can be taken in 250 ml spring water where 2 pellets/2 drops have been dissolved. 1 spoon from this solution is 1 dose.

Hello Sameer,

I am here to report the results of my remedy after 10 (12) days.

I felt an effect immediately after I took the remedy. I felt lighter and stronger in my body and more secure in my feelings.

The numbness in my big toes is gone. I am working hard lately, and do get tired, but do not feel burdened with deep fatigue as often as I did before. I have also noticed that I feel more comfortable speaking my mind, and get less irritated.

I do still notice a swelling in my throat area, but I have also noticed that when I go off my medication, which I sometimes have to do for tests, it doesn't have as drastic of an effect on me that I used to.

I do sleep restlessly still, but I feel more rested.

Thank you so much Sameer. If I can think of any other changes, I will let you know. Thank you for all that you do.

Hello Sameer,

I'm just checking in to make sure you didn't want me to proceed with anything else. I last posted December 4th. What do you think of the results? I am very pleased. Thank you so much for your wonderful, wonderful work. I am indebted.

Take care.

billie626 last decade
Very nice to hear about the results. I am very happy to see these improvements.

How are you doing now ?

Sorry I missed your post in a flurry of activity in my life in the last 2-3 months.

Please keep in touch.

Hello Sameer,

Thank you for your post. I'm happy that you are busy!

I have been doing well generally. Lately my energy has been a little lower, and my tonsils have been swollen. I also seem to be completely unable to overeat (esp. fiber foods) without unbearable gas. But in general, I have felt much more steady than I was before. Emotionally, I have been feeling very strong feelings, about almost everything, and I am very fixed in everything that I feel. I don't wish to be swayed. Perhaps what I feel is righteousness.

That's me. What do you think?

Thanks again!

Hi Billie,

Can you please try to get LM2 potency of Carcinosin in Canada ?

Let me know if that is available. It can be either in 'granule' form or it can be a liquid which has been made using by dissolving just 1 granule in it.

Hello Sameer,

Certainly I will try. When I find it, what dosage would you like me to take?

Hello Sameer,

I have received the remedy- 200C potency of Carcinosin. What dosage would you like me to take? Thank you!

billie626 last decade
Oh and it is in pellet form. Thanks.

billie626 last decade
Just 1 pellet can be dissolved in 250 ml spring water (if you leave the pellet in the water for 20 mins, it should melt), stir and take a spoon from there ONCE.

Report in 3 weeks please.

Hello Sameer,

Now I must apologize for being full of activity. This post is long overdue.

I have seen some great results with the Carcinosin remedy. The biggest changes are as follows:

-better digestion
- less gas
-dreaming more
-more relaxed, a little easier to accept change
-more confidence
-less overwhelm
-a little less righteous :)
-no emotional outbursts
-occasional tonsil swelling when fatigued
-easier to transition on and off my medication when I go for tests.
-thyroid gland visibly less swollen
-T3 and T4 levels show significantly lower in my blood. My endocrinologist has lowered my dosage of medication.

These changes I feel to be very positive.

I still feel I need help addressing the following concerns:

-puffy eyes. My eyes protrude (as a result of Graves disease) and my eyes always have dark circles under them, especially when fatigued of course.
-tonsil swelling occasionally as I mentioned earlier, when fatigued.
- digestion. I still get gassy very easily.
- weight gain when I have to stop taking medication for tests (although it has been less drastic)
-indecisiveness and a 'diffuse' quality to my mind. I take decisions too seriously, and can be irresolute as a result.
- righteous feelings. Taking offence. Oversensitivity. These are rare but strong.
-a permanent lowering of the T3 and T4 levels in my blood. I have the goal of removing myself from Tapazole in 2 years or less, giving my body the ability to regulate itself. I am very hopeful that homeopathy can help me do this. I also am considering a regular dose of Vitamin D, and I would like to know what you think of this choice. I also make sure to eat cruciferous vegetables, particularly rapini, kale and broccoli, as I have heard these can help.

Thank you so much, and I hope this update helps. If I can think of any other changes, I will be sure to let you know.

Have a great day!

Hi Billie,

These are great changes. Please continue to wait a little more.

Keep Carcinosin 1M at hand, but do not take it without talking to me.

Update in 2 weeks. You can contact earlier if you see a relapse on any front.

hello sameervermani, I was reading an article about Carcinosin by Don Webley and it seemed very interesting to me, I thought that a lot applied to me! (heat/inflammation, liking eggs and salt, having history of addiction to smoking and drinking).
then i was searching for more info about this remedy when i was directed here. I am a 50 years old woman, I was born in middle east and lived in England, France and America, I have been diagnosed with HYPOthyroidism/hashimotos and irritable bowel syndrom. I have heat and inflammation (heart heat and whole body inflammtion and swelling) I eat eggs almost every day and I like salt, I put salt before I taste my food!!! I was a smoker for a long time and I drank wine almost every night. I have digestion problems, indigestion, belching, bloating, large abdomen, dull pain very left very upper abdomen, I gained a lot of weight since diagnosed with problems which I think is mostly swelling and water retetion, I am usually cold outside but I have heat inside my body, do you think that carcinosin is suitable for me? please advise, thank you

also i have insomnia and difficulty waking up and slow mornings (usually drink coffee and work with computer in the morning), moody and cry easily specially recently, but I like joking laugh as well, I feel lazy, for example I think about going to the gym all the time but I don't go there much, when i am at the gym i love it but it's difficult to get myself going there. I feel depressed as well. I prefer to be alone because I feel like when i am with my family and friends I end up arguing with them! although we laugh a lot together mostly (moody) my doctors tell me these are all symptoms of hypothyrodism and hashimoto's!
I am taking armourthyroid 1 grain (60 mg) for thyroid, fiber, senna and natural anti acid for stomach, and saint-johns worth for deppression and mood. please let me know if you need more information, thank you
