Feeding water to infants.

In recent times I have observed that all the doctors insist not to give water to little ones till a age of about 6-8 months.
They say that they get enough water thro feeds & therefore not required.
Somehow I feel that in hot places like India, Pakistan, Cylon, Africa etc. the little ones must be getting very thirsty & how can other sort of liquid replace the requirement of water.
I for one insist & ask all my patients to make the infant drink water which is nicely filtered, boiled and with slight sugar dissolved in it.
What is the opinion of our other members & doctors in the forum? I would like to hear their valued opinion on this issue.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
i am from pakistan and in my experience, it usually depends on the environment and climate, the hotter the season the intake should increase n water is compulsary, the cold season born baby need not the water. Infants usually take the required from milk as they need less water

I am the father of 3 boys the first of whom arrived 10 years after we were married. I was naturally very careful with bringing up my first born who is now 42 years old and would studiously obey the commands of the pediatrician not to give any water between feeds and also included using clouds of talcum power to 'prevent' any heat rash ! I remember using Gripe water liberally whenever baby would scream and usually puke undigested milk. I now prescribe Nat Phos 6x which is far more effective and safe and gives instant results.

My youngest son has a baby girl just 13 months old and we agreed to give her all the water that she needed in between feeds as the average temperature here in Sri Lanka is usually around 30C and babies should be given water on demand although there is a tendency to pee more often than otherwise.
