When Self-Reporting Won't Do

I wonder what the experiences of others have been with self-reporting? The branch of ancient medicine I have studied in the past produces a lot of detailed information independently of the patient. Would this ever be helful for a baby, or a child, or even an adult who was not quite so aware of their own symptoms? Not everyone is very articulate, really. In the absence of good information, the process of recommending and treating could go on ad infinitum, it seems. To combine accurate diagnosis with an excellent remedy seems like the best of both worlds to me. What are the experiences of others?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
There is lots of information about our remedies that is objective, rather than subjective. This information can be gathered from the patient without words - odour, gestures, colour, movement, sound, facial expressions and so on. These things have been recorded in our materia medicas.

I cannot count the number of times I have prescribed Chamomilla for children purely on the basis of the arching of the back, the kicking of the feet, the single red cheek and the need to be carried around constantly.

Fair enough. What about when symptoms are so pervasive, they defy the limits that might further define them? For example, I kept getting asked what time of day my symptoms were worse. I can't possibly answer that; they are consistently severe all the time. Thoughts?

Then that is not an important part of understanding your case. For people that have clear time modalities they can be very useful, but not everyone has them. Some symptoms have no modalities, and so they are almost useless for prescribing. In such a situation you look around for other symptoms that do have modalities - the character of the remedy will be seen elsewhere.

The lack of modalities means there is little energy there, little movement, the body has not focussed its efforts to get well there. It has left that symptom or area alone and concentrated on something else. Follow the struggle to the areas and symptoms that show peculiarity, and then you will find the remedy.
