Seeking help from Dr. Sameer

Hello Dr. Sameer, I have been following your posts here on this board and have seent the great help you have provided many people. I am hoping you can help me as well. I apologize for the length of the post but want to give you my full case.

As background, I initially began seeking treatment from a well respected local homeopath dr. a year ago. She has been trying to find a consitutional remedy for me but we have not had any success and I seem to have had many side effects from the remedies she has tried.

I am posting my complete case below in hopes you can help me since I am so depressed over constantly being sick and not being able to live a normal, full life.

1. Describe your main suffering? Loss of periods with hot flashes & dust allergies which leads to constant stuffy/swollen nose; sinus pain & pressure & mucus that runs down back of throat. Constantly catching colds & other minor illnesses where I feel rundown.

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body? Starting in August I developed trembling in my body & tingling/numbness in arms & foot on left side as well as general fatigue & lack of energy, need for a lot of sleep. Then 2 weeks ago I began developing serious dizzy spells and tightness in chest/lung area with a sore throat. The dizziness has gotten better in the last few days but tingling/numbness, fatigue & sore throat are still here. I do not know if this is a side effect of other homeopathic medicines a local homeopathic dr. has given me (since she was treating me until 2 weeks ago) or an acute virus. Within the last month I have been prescribed lachesis 30c, Nat Sulf 30c & Belladonna 30c. The last remedy I took was Belladonna 30c a week ago.

3. What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings?

Despair, frustration, hopelessness that I will never get well. I also having a history of depression (was on anti-depressant medication 5 years ago for a whole year), but other than my despair over getting well & frustrating about being sick I have not been very depressed about anything else in my life lately.

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst? Describe the sensation in your own words.

That I am always sick and will never get worse. That all I want to do is sleep and that my body is doing crazy things. That I am going crazy imagining all these symptoms even though I know they are real and that I just want to be healthy and live a normal life.

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease?

I cannot connect it to any specific past event or disease. I have always seemed to have a 'weak constitution' catching colds often even as a young child. I then developed sever dust allergies about 15 years ago which caused constant congestion with post nasal drip & even more frequent colds & sinus infections. The loss of periods & hot flashes began a year and a half ago and I noticed it because I stopped taking the birth control pill.

6. Which time of the day you are worst?

My nose always feels very congested at night when I lie down in bed (I'm told because of the dust mites in my bedding) and i always feel awful in the morning--congested, stuffed up, sluggish. I am not a morning person and have always had a hard time getting up in the morning no matter how much sleep I get. I am my 'best' & most awake, energetic at night & prefer to stay up late.

7. What are the things which aggravate your suffering and which are those which ameliorate the same? Example- time, temperature, pressure, rubbing, washing, eating, tight clothing etc.

Eating and sleeping generally makes me feel better overall. With sinuses only thing that clears them up and allows me to breathe are OTC antihistamines and spicy foods (like wasabi) but I generally do not like to eat spicy foods.

8. Do your think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)?

I am not getting menses but when I did used to get them I always felt very hungry the week before my period. The week of my period I was always very fatigued and low energy/bad mood. For my sinuses, lying in my bed always makes them worse (b/c ofthe dust in the bedding I have been told).

9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather?

I generally feel best in dry weather that is mid temperature (50s or 60s farenheit).

10. Describe your general mental set up? Are you Moody, Arrogant, Mild, Agreeable Changeable, Nervous, Suspicious, Easily offended, Quiet, Arguing, Irritating, Lazy etc.

I generally consider myself pretty confident. I can tend to dwell on things (once I get an idea in my head its hard to let it go until I have resolution) and can be impatient. I tend to drink too much alcohol because I am bored/sad and if I really overdo it it tends to bring out anger in me rather than sadness. I take a lot of stock in my relationships with my friends and family but am also somewhat independent--I have been single most of my life (although I would like to be married) and do not like to have to 'check in' with or talk to my friends every day if I am busy. Sometimes I have days where I just want alone time and do not want to talk to anyone, but then other days I am very extroverted and love being the cetner of attention at parties & talking to everyone.

- How do you feel before or during a thunderstorm?

I like listening to thunderstorms and find them exciting but they do not seem to affect my physical symptoms.

- Do you like being consoled during your tough times? To a certain extent. When I am very sick I like getting sympathy and being taken care of. But as I start to get well I hate constant questions about how I'm feeling or constant caretaking as I feel smothered.
- Are you sensitive to external stimuli like smell, noise, light etc?

I sometimes am irritated by lots of noise if I am trying to relax

- Do you have any typical habit or gesture like nail biting, causeless
Weeping, talking to one self etc?
I used to bite my nails for many years but stopped about 2 years ago.

- How do you feel about your friends, family, your children and especially your husband / wife?
I frequently disappointed by my friends/family because I often feel I put much more effort into those relationships than they do.

11. What are your fears and do you dream of any situation repeatedly?

I fear I am always going to be sick and never get well. I do not dream of any situation repeatedly.

12. What do you crave for in food items and what are your aversions?

I don't like milk, usually crave starches (potatoes, bread, pasta), alcohol and red meat.

13. How is your thirst: Less, Normal or Excessive?

Normal although I usually prefer room temperature or cold drinks to hot ones. I also like to chew ice.

14. How is your hunger: Less, Normal or Excessive? Excessive--I ate a lot of food and often never feel satisfied no matter how much I eat. The only time my appetite is low generally is in the mornings.

15. Is there any kind of food which your body can’t stand?

I have been diagnosed with a wheat intolerance and often get bloated and feel yucky if I eat a lot of wheat but at same time crave/enjoy bread & pasta especially if I eat a lot (the more I eat the more I crave it).

16. Is your sweat normal or less or more? Where does it sweat more: Head, Trunk or Limbs?

Sweat normal. When I have hot flashes I sweat on my forehead.

17. How is your bowel movement and stool type? Normal

18. How well do you sleep? Do you have a particular posture of sleeping?

I sleep on my stomach, sleeping is usually normal however I often wake up at 4am and cannot get to sleep again for a few hours (until right before I have to wake up so wake up feeling tired)

19. Do you think you are able to satisfy your sexual desires in general? NO

20. Do you have any strange, peculiar or unusual symptom or feelings? How are you different from others?

When I get sick I often get a white coated tongue and indentations on the size of my tongue as well as a long ridge/striation on my inner cheeks (both sides)

21. What medications have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication?

I am allergic to penicillins which causes rashes. I took antidepressants for a year 5 years ago for a bout of depression. Other medicines include taking allergy medicines for 3-4 years & birth control pills for 15 years until two years ago when I stopped all medications. I have recently (in last year) tried homeopathic medications with no success.

22. What major diseases are running in your family? My father's side has a history of depression but no other diseases run in family.

23. Describe, how do you look like? Describe your overall appearance.

Blond hair, fair skin (that tends to ruddy complexsion); 5'6, about 30 pounds overweight; apple shaped.

(For Females)
24. If your menstrual cycles are not normal, please describe the irregularities, like pains, moods, flow type, clots etc.

Since quitting the birth control pill I have only had two periods in a year and a half and they are very light. Since quitting the pill and not getting my period I also get hot flashes which are worse in the mornings and start with sweat on my forehead and then feel like my face & upper body is flusing & getting hot.

25. What major diseases have you had in your life and when. Please write them in a chronological manner.

Other than the depression I indicated, I have never had any major diseases but instead seem to have continual colds/sinus infections and low grade chronic conditions (the allergies & early menopause) that affect my quality of life.
