Attn: Any Professional Homepath - Your advice please.

Your advice will be much appreciated on what homeopathic remedies, in priority order, are suggested to treat the following long term conditions and the dosages. Also, can the remedies be taken together, if not, how much time between them.

Overview – I’m retired, 63, and for over 20 years have been leading a healthy lifestyle, including good nutrition, daily exercise and stress management. Nevertheless, have some health issues, as noted below-
1. Diabetic type 2 (well controlled with exercise and meds – Lantus insulin 10 units and Diamicron 30mg X2). A1C this year ranged from 6.4 to 6.7,
2. Hypothyroid (on 75mcg synthroid),
3. Low testosterone (getting bi-weekly depo-testosterone cypionate 2.0 ml injections),
4. Acid reflux (on Pariet 20 mg 2X daily),
5. Cholesterol well controlled with exercise and meds – Crestor 10 mg and Ezetrol 10 mg daily. Total cholesterol this year has ranged from 3.0 to 4.5, and last month was 3.7 mmo1/L
6. Notes (a) resting blood pressure has been approx. 120/60 and heart rate 50 to 60 most of my life. (b) my height is 5’10 and weight 165 lbs.

Symptoms –
1. Frequent urination (day and night) due to overactive bladder, (some years ago tried Flomax and stopped due to severe side effects. Urologist now suggested taking Ditropan, but didn’t do so due to the potential side effects.
2. Bronchiestasis, with occasional shortness of breath.
3. Sinusitis, Thick and sticky mucous from nose and lungs (worst upon rising with accumulation in throat), It’s mostly clear, but yellowish in first two or three discharges. Also, frequent running nose, feels like post nasal drip.
4. Eczema in ears, with daily scaling removal and itching at times
5. Cold body, and especially extremities – right hand and toes (day and night),
6. Numbness in right hand and toes, which is somewhat relieved with exercise. However, hand grip is normal. An EMG test of hand showed no nerve damage or carpal tunnel syndrome
7. Unsteady on my feet, walking like a drunk,
8. Bloated abdomen constantly, with periodic flatulence and frequent bowel movements (4 times daily) of soft consistency.
9. Tinnitus (ringing & hissing in both ears, day and night)
10. Lacking usual strength and stamina for the past 6 months.
11. NOTE – fortunately, no pain anywhere.

I’m a strong believer in alternative treatments, having experienced successful results with reflexology, acupuncture, herbs and homeopathic (latter to cure a bad case of psoriasis a number of years ago, and the psoriasis never recurred.

Thank you Neil,

Here’s more info about me. Born on Nov. 1st, a Scorpio, I’m a type A personality and am very active. In the summer I play golf, walking the course with a pull cart, 4 to 5 times a week, other days I work out in the gym for 1 to 1 ½ hours with weights and aerobics or a fast paced 2 to 3 mile walk. In the winter, workout in the gym and/or do a walk daily. Exercise daily even when traveling. Apart from family, my passions are golf, travel worldwide and trading in the stock market, thus keeping mentally and physically active together with my healthy diet (very little in processed foods) and good stress management all of my life, for the goal of achieving longevity (100+) in as healthy a condition as is in my control. Nutrition primarily consists of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lentils, nuts, good oils, fish (salmon mainly), chicken, soya milk, plain yogurt, supplemented with ground flax seed, pumpkin seeds, chai seeds. Beverages are mostly filtered water, chocolate milk made with cacao and soya milk, occasional coffee and green tea, and liquor in moderation – mainly a glass of red wine with a meal. I take a number of supplements including Vit. C, B Complex, Acidophillus, Gingko, MSM joint formula, Vit E, Folic Acid, Calcium Mag, CoQ10, Resveratrol, PS, Alpha Lipoic, Vit. D3, and Olive leaf extract.

I’ve always been a well-organized person, with an outgoing personality and am calm under pressure. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, sightseeing nature’s wonders and unique cultural attractions, and visiting other countries to see their lifestyles and attractions. I live alone as my wife passed away last year.

If there are any other specifics you’d like, please let me know.

Best regards, and Happy Holidays

Niel,here's more info.

I’m now retired, but forgot to tell you about my successful business career, which spanned over a period of more than 40 years and all in senior management positions (President, CEO or CFO), employing a team management style. I’m an entrepreneurial manager, with a lot of initiative and discipline, and was fortunate to have the opportunity to become involved in different businesses, including some that I started. I thrived on the challenges presented in learning and operating each of the businesses with motivation to achieve positive results. These businesses included local trucking (own), long haul transport (own), banking, venture capital (own), real estate investment & development, agricultural products & services and an environmental business. The companies employed from 200 to 1300 employees. I particularly enjoyed raising capital successfully from private and public sources with offerings completed in the Canadian, U.S. and European financial markets. Now, I’m applying the same initiative and discipline in conducting my stock trading activities.

I recognize that I’m responsible for my own health, thus have actively engaged in researching and learning all I can about various diseases, alternative remedies, supplements etc. to assist me in making a more informed decision for my healthcare. However, I need the advice and any necessary treatment for certain health problems from health professionals. I particularly like homeopathic remedies, as they have no side effects and once the cause has been effectively treated the particular remedy is stopped, as I experienced with my severe case of psoriasis some 15 yrs ago and it hasn’t recurred. Whereas, pharmaceutical drugs often treat only the symptoms, have side effects (which I’ve experienced in a number of cases and had to stop or change the med) and need to be taken continuously. In this context, I’d sure be grateful if there were homeopathic remedies that would effectively treat my diabetes type 2, low testosterone levels, hypothyroid and cholesterol so I may go off of the drugs I’m currently taking.

Thanks again, Niel for your kind consideration.

Hi

The initial treatment plan is as follows:

Day 1 : Three wet doses of Sulphur 200 separated by 4 hours each.

One wet doses is 4 pills/2 drops of the remedy dissolved in some 100 ml of pure water and sipped slowly.

Days 3-10 : Syzyzium jambolanum. 4 drops of the mother tincture in half a glass of lukewarm water.

Please report back on your condition after the 10 days of protocol suggested above.

Warm regards

Niel

Hello Niel, and thanks for your prompt response and evidently useful remedies, to treat my conditions, the details on which I checked on your website. As I live in the Vancouver area, I’m able to buy the Boiron brand locally. What size bottle of the tincture should I get? Also, I have in the distant past had side effects from Sulfa drugs, would that be a concern in taking the Sulphur remedy?

Before, I found your website, a couple of weeks ago, I did a search on www.remedyfinder.net and upon entering my symptoms came up with recommended remedies of Lycopodium, Sulphur and Aconitum napellus. So, before I found your forum, as I was having such a severe problem with incontinence and frequent urination, I started taking Boiron Lycopodium 30CH – 5 pellets 3 times daily and found significant improvement with virtually no involuntary urination (which happened often before), 70% improvement in urination frequency, 50% improvement in numbness of the toes and right hand, unsteady gait is better, and sleep has improved. I’ve been on Lycopodium for about 10 days and several days ago decided to stop taking the Symbicort 200 lung inhaler and the Ipratropium nose spray, which meds I forgot to inform you on before, to test if Lycopodium was helping to relieve the excessive mucous discharge from the nose and/or lungs, and have found significant improvement in this regard.

My approach was to try Lycopodium first as it seemed to be the most comprehensive remedy for the symptoms I listed, which didn’t include my diabetes. So, do I stop it and start on the Sulphur and tincture you suggested or do I take all three. If so, can all remedies be taken at the same time or is it preferable to take them spaced apart by some timeframe?

Thanks again, for your valuable advice.

Best regards

Hi

Great to know you were benefited by Lyco. Sulphur seems to suit you more on the generals and is follows Lyco extremely well. Just make it a point to keep at least a week's gap between the last dose of Lyco and the first dose of Sulphur.

Don't worry about problems you had with Sulpha drugs. Homeopathy drugs work on the dynamic plane and not on the physiological one.

You can procure the MT in 20 ml/30 ml bottle.

Niel

Thanks so much, Niel.

I'll give you an update 10 days after completing the protocol suggested, which I'll start one week after stopping the lycopodium. I assume my interpretation is correct that I only take the sulphur for one day - 3 times at 4 hour intervals.

Wish you and yours a Very Merry Christmas and a most Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

Hello again,Niel,

Sorry to trouble you, but my supplier advises that Boiron has discontinued the mother tincture for the Syzyium Jambolanum. It's only available from Boiron in 3X, 8X etc strengths. Your advice please.

Thanks, Optimist

Hi Niel,

I guess you've been absent on Christmas vacation, that's why I haven't received a reply to my post of 12-22nd. Expanding on my question, I note that Syzyium Jambolanum is only available in pellet or liquid form from Boiron, Hylands and WHP. So, for my treatment purposes, do you recommend the pellet or liquid and in what strength and dosage should I take it. Thanks for your good advice.

Hello Niel,

I'm anxiously awaiting your reply. In the meantime, I had emailed a source that showed they had the Boiron mother tincture 1oz available, but as you'll note in their reply below, a prescription is required. They must have this item in stock,as talking with Boiron directly they said it was discontinued.

If you could get Syzyzium jambolanum in 1X or 3X potency, you may take 4 pellets thereof directly instead of 4 drops of Syzyzium jambolanum Q. i hope Dr. Niel will be back within 10 days.

Dr. Kadwa and Niel, thanks for your advice. I assume I only take a single dose of 4 pellets daily of Syzysium jambolanum. Is that correct?

Thanks, Niel.

Will do. I'll receive both remedies early next week and will first take the sulphur and follow it, as advised, with the Syzysium jambolanum, and post the progress 10 days later.

Any updates?

Niel Madhavan last decade
Thanks, Niel for the inquiry. Yes, I have an update which was delayed due to the urgency in dealing with a couple of other health issues, which have now been more or less resolved and I'll inform you on that as well as give an update on the homeopathic remedies previously discussed. It was important to deal with the other issues first, so going forward we'll have a more appropriate perspective in dealing with further homeopathic treatment. I'll give you a full report shortly.

Hi Niel,
Here’s the update on the regimen you suggested at the end of December. I was delayed in getting started as it took a while to get the right Syzyzium product.

Jan 7, 2010 –
I took 3 doses of Sulphur 200CH, separated by 4 hours each, with each wet dose composed of 4 pellets of Sulphur dissolved in 100ml pure water, sipped slowly, as you advised.

Jan 8, 2010 –
Improvements noticed –
1. numbness in right hand and toes lessened
2. warmer body and extremeties, which previously were ice cold often

Jan 9, 2010 –
Started for 8 days, Syzyzium jambolanum 3X (3DH) 4 pellets twice daily, as you advised.

Jan 11 – 2010 onward
Improvements noticed –
1. dry skin and dry eyes better
2. indigestion and flatulence less
3. mucous discharge and post nasal drip seemed better
4. possibility of other underlying and subtle changes that are not evident
5. frequency of urination, especially while asleep improved

However, the greatest benefit was derived earlier in treating some of these and other conditions with the initial use of Lycopodium, as mentioned in my December 18th post, which I’m repeating, in part, below, for ease of reference.

“So, before I found your forum, as I was having such a severe problem with incontinence and frequent urination, I started taking Boiron Lycopodium 30CH – 5 pellets 3 times daily and found significant improvement with virtually no involuntary urination (which happened often before), 70% improvement in urination frequency, 50% improvement in numbness of the toes and right hand, unsteady gait is better, and sleep has improved. Later today I hope to post for your review the info on the two health problems encountered and tests done so you may take that info into account in determining what the best course of action should be for the homeopathic treatment going forward.

Thanks,
Optimist

Hello Niel,

Here’s the info on the 2 health issues I struggled with recently. First, as a point of reference, the health issues, medications and symptoms noted in my first post on December 15th remain as indicated, except for the following modifications.

1. The first issue was with regard to item #8 under Symptoms in the Dec. 15 post, as I was having an intolerable problem with my digestive system, with too frequent bowel movements (4 to 5 times daily), some showing undigested food. I had suspected for some time that I wasn’t getting the full benefit of the nutrition from my food due to suspected indigestion. As well, flatulence became severe accompanied by a foul smell. My Gastroentrologist suggested that I change the dosage of the pancreatic digestive enzymes I’d been taking for several years, from Creon 10 to Creon 20 two caps with each large meal and one cap with smaller meals and snacks. I’ve been on this regimen for about a month and the condition has certainly improved with bowel movements reduced to 2 or 3 a day and no undigested food is visible. The flatulence problem is pretty much cleared. But, as this remedy relieves the symptoms, it is not a cure.

Is there any homeopathic remedy(s) that would help cure this indigestion problem, so I may do away with the medication?

2. The second issue was irregularities in my endocrine system, which I suspect may be the root cause of several of the symptoms being experienced. My understanding is that as we age, the various glands associated with the endocrine system progressively decline in function. As previously noted, I already had an underactive thyroid and the low testosterone reflected an underfunctioning testes, and my pancreas is not producing the required insulin. During the past 3 years my pituitary function tests for the FSH and LH were well below normal and my Endocrinologist advised that it was expected as the feedback to the pituitary gland from the testosterone injections would cause these lower readings. In December, when I reviewed my medical records and list of symptoms of concern, with my Gastroentrologist, he asked if anyone had previously done an adrenal gland test and I said “no”. So, he had an ACTH test done in January, which showed irregularities, which results my Endocrinologist said could have been altered by an ingredient in Symbicort, which I had been taking. So, a couple of weeks ago, I informed my Endocrinologist that I was stopping the testosterone injections and had already stopped the Symbicort, and wanted to get an accurate reading through a new ACTH test without intereference from these drugs. He’s given me a requistion for the new test which I’ll do in a couple of months as it takes 6 to 8 weeks for the testosterone medication to clear through the system.

Is there any homeopathic remedy(s) that would help improve the functions of the endocrine glands, including the pituitary, thyroid, testes, pancreas and adrenal glands? My sixth sense tells me that many of the symptoms I’m experiencing are due to the decline in the normal function of these glands.

3. The next most troublesome problem that’s affecting my lifestyle may be related to the neurological system. I continue to have numbness in my right hand and toes, and my gait is a problem as I’m unsteady on my feet.

Is there any effective homeopathic remedy(s) to treat these conditions?

4. Symptom #5 – i.e. Ice cold body, hands and feet are more regular now and I have to wear a sweater or vest indoors in 70 degree room temp. My Naturopathic Doctor says it’s caused by a Yang deficiency, for which he would suggest some form of herbal treatment. But, I’d rather use homeopathic.

Could these conditions be caused by the dysfunctional endocrine system?

5. The frequent urination problem is better, but needs more improvement particularly as it’s somewhat regressed. It’s worst during sleep as I still have to get up 3 times through the night and the other interesting phenomenon is that I get an instant urgent need to urinate when the tap water is flowing, and this happens quite frequently. Thank goodness, the involuntary drip stopped since the time I took the Lycopodium remedy.

Is the tap water flow trigger neurological or psychological? As previously noted in symptom #1, the Urologist said the frequent urination is due to an overactive bladder. Should I restart use of Lycopodium 30CH, as I originally did to alleviate this problem or do you have some other suggestion?

Overall, some of the foregoing problems may now be causing the following constant health and lifestyle issues, namely a foggy (unclear) head, burning eyes, lethargy, weak feeling, lack of energy and stamina.

One thing I noticed when I was taking the homeopathic remedies, is that they raised my blood sugars somewhat, I guess due to the sugar coating. Also, I heard that when taking homeopathic medicine, one shouldn’t drink coffee or liquor. As I did, in moderation, drink coffee and wine occasionally. If that info is correct, do I have to completely stop drinking both of these beverages when taking homeopathic remedies?

I certainly hope you’ll be able to give me some helpful advice on relieving the foregoing health problems.

Incidentally, on Sunday, Feb. 21st, I’m flying from Vancouver to Phoenix to get some warm weather, volunteer at a golf tournament and play golf, and hope you’re able to offer some advice before I leave.

Best regards,
Optimist

Hello again, Niel,

For your added info, in looking over my records, I found the following info regarding previous attempts to improve the Pituitary function. As my Pituitary function tests showed a significant decline starting in 2006, in consultation with my Naturopath, in Oct 2007 he put me on Aurum Met 15C (I don’t know the dosage and frequency), which didn’t help. Then, in October he placed me on Baryta Cabonica 30CH one pill daily and it didn’t show any improvement.

Also, thought I should mention that prior to learning of the ABC Homeopathy website, in my internet research based diagnosis of my health problems, the homeopathic remedies that came forth were Lycopodium as the primary one, and I used the 30CH taking 5 pills 3 times a day as suggested on the label for 2 weeks or so. Also, the research suggested Sulfur, Aconitum Napellus and Nux Vomica. I bought one vial of each of these but haven’t yet used any of them, as I had started consultation with you. They are all 30CH Boiron products. Would you suggest using any one or more of these, if not I’ll return or exchange them for whatever you advise.

Look forward to hearing from you.
