Irritable Bowel Syndrome help

heya all
I am new here so I will see how it goes, I will describe myself and past history as best I can..
am a 20 year old blonde haired green eyed female, height 5'7 weight around 11 stone 8-but is slowly coming down!
have had problems over the last year with chronic fatigue/exhaustion, mood changes, sleep disturbances and general feelings of being run down and constantly under attack which GP put down to depression, only problem was none of the anti depressants were helping. I then started experiencing changes in bowel habits- bloating, diahorea and constipations combined with abdominal pain, my GP diagnoses me as have IBS.
I am convinced my energy levels and other odd symptoms like sleep problems heavy sweating and cold feet and hands are related to a food ontolerance or allergy, any advice?
at one point my GP was querying Myalgic encephalitis but has since changed his mind again!
any advice or a rememdy I could try?
many thanks!!!
Hanna

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Hi Hanna, is this IBS you now have, after taking any medications? Students don't usually eat well, too rushed.
What were your circumstances before the tiredness ect; set in? Do you tolerate fatty foods? Is there anyone of your blood relatives that have died of cancers in your family? You do need to lose some more weight quickly, do you eat when you are upset, and what? Is the sweat localised, hands, feet? All symptoms Worse when? IBS can be diet related, a change in eating habits can help, along with the correct remedy you should come right.

Mike

Dear Hanna,
I think you should keep in view your pH level. It is important to keep it in the minimum level.Your exhaustion and sleeplessness is linked with your indigestion.More infomation is required to recommend a medicine specially about your menstrual cycle.

Am aged 20,am a student nurse so I am exposed to germs everywhere! am ont he combined oral contraceptive pill and have been for nearly 2 years, periods are heavy on the pill but only last 3 days and have always been heavy-7 days without the pill but not too painful, sometimes clots but not often.
main suffering is IBs with diahorea also ice cold feet and heavy sweating on my underarms,I have had depression associated with the pill.sometimes i feel very drained and physically exhausted.Have had common migraines since I was 7 years old, used to be a regular occurance more than one a week until I went on the pill and this improved them.
started around december 2005, heat makes everything worse, the cold makes me feel a bit better.
food wise I crave things like jacket potatoes, chips and biscuits but not chocolate I am not a big fan.I am not a big fan of red meat, i like most foods and love fruit and vegetables, I have sensed that milk makes me have more mucus, however I hate the taste of soya milk :-)
I am always very hungry in the mornings and less as the day goes on-since losing weight my appetite has decreased I think. My thirst I would say is normal I will not allow myself to get dehydrated I always drink my two litres of water a day.
bowel movements vary can be constipated or have diahorea-urgency in the morning after breakfast and if my diet is very good I average 2-3 bowel movements a day.
I was having severe problems sleeping GP suggested i had SAD but since being treated with trazadone I found my cycle improved-however I have been off of this drug for a month now and my slep cycle is not bad, I probably do not get enough though I average about 8 hoursa night and always wake early about 4am needing the loo. Dreams are vivid, bright colourful and very strange in nature, I always dream.
I am overweight I beleive my BMI to be 26 which is a lot less than it was a year ago, have been slowly losing weight with weight watchers.I am 5'7
history wise we have no cancers in my family some heart disease but all my dead relatives were heavy smokers, oh and I am a non smoker who has never smoked. we have dementia in the family and depression.
I have mood swings sometimes and find I get spot breakouts on my chin and cheeks, sometimes I just look so ill.
Travel wise have travelled to crete last september 2007 and found that I felt great there :-)
I can honestly link allmy illness and problems to starting my damn nursing course!!! energy wise I have felt better but this could be due to sun rising earlier.
any better? :-)
