Nocturnal Seizures

My 10 year old daughter was first diagnosed with infantile spasms at 3 months of age. She went through typical allopathic procedures for seizures including trying many different drugs which did not work. She was on the Ketogenic Diet for 2-1/2 years and since then has had nocturnal seizures only. She currently has between 6-8 seizures per month...only at night although we have noticed "startles" during the day lately. She is non-verbal, did not walk until around 4-1/2 and has many delays. She is extremely happy and beautiful as well as loving.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
ARTEMISIA VULGARIS is good for seizures.

We really need more symptoms of child's personality and LIKES. She could be allergic to something. Sabra

Sabra is right-she could have some food allergy esp. that change in diet helped (could you please tell us what is this diet?she is still on it, right?
I know of two-year old whose seizures completely disappeared when her mother stopped giving her milk and other dairy products.

I have actually been very active in monitoring her diet & feel strongly about food as a healer. We've worked in the past with a TCM doctor using food & spices & I cook only vegetarian whole foods meals and sometimes even Ayurvedic recipes but we do eat dairy and eggs. As an infant on an allopathic nightmare of drugs, I noticed that she would seize sometimes the moment the meds (in pediatric syrup) hit her tongue. I suggested to the neurologist that maybe the sugar in the drugs were making the seizures worse...that as they raised the level of meds her seizures were increasing. I was patted on the head and told it would "take a truckload of sugar to set off seizures like these". Well, finally I convinced them to just give me the meds in a capsule to be mixed with food to avoid the sugary elixir and her seizures went down from 10 a day to 10 in the first week and then 10 in a month! I finally found a naturopathic doctor in our area to test her for food intolerances & her #1 food intolerance is sugar! I truly believe that mothers know and sense so much about their children and this needs to be respected more. Her tissue salt was also known after this test and it is Silicea. Also, we tried a gluten & casein diet for about 6 months with no change in her seizure pattern & no true developmental gains. I wonder though about trying it again because it was unknown at that time that Rice Dream contains some gluten from the barley filtering process. She is currently on a whole foods diet. She drinks rice milk but sometimes drinks milk when away from home. She does not chew so limiting an already limited diet is challenging. I am currently giving her Cina which I have given her in the past. She fits many of the characteristics for Cina in Materia Medica. We did some work with a "Hanna Kroeger" healer who suggested Cina. I wonder about Opium? I also wonder about a homeopathic nosode for tetanus. It sounds strange but I wonder about the chewing difficulties & suppressed speech. All the sounds are there and sometimes words come but not consistently. Thank you so much for those replying and trying to help me with my daughter. She truly an amazing spirit and everyone who meets her loves her. Her nickname is "Daymaker" because she loves to hug and "makes your day" when you get a hug from her. Her gift to all of us is her essence of pure love. She meets people on the essence level and she's just a naturally spiritual being. Thanks again and may peace surround you!

Thanks SABRA for the suggestion of ARTEMISIA VULGARIS. As an herb I wonder about it's properties and that it would be similar to CINA. After reading the characteristics of ARTEMISIA VULGARIS I feel it really fits many of Lily's symptoms. In my first posting I worried about writing too much but now realize the importance of a complete picture. She also drools along with the chewing & speech difficulties.

ARTEMISA VULGARIS, Mugwort.
Overview:
Has some reputation as a remedy for epileptic conditions, and convulsive diseases of childhood and girls at puberty. Petit mal. Epilepsy without aura; after fright and other violent emotions and after masturbation. Several convulsions close together. Somnambulism. Gets up at night and works, remembers nothing in the morning (Kali phos).

Head.--Drawn back by spasmodic twitchings. Mouth drawn to left. Congestion of brain.

Eyes.--Colored light produces dizziness. Pain and blurring of vision; better; rubbing; worse, using eyes.

Female.--Profuse menses. Violent uterine contractions. Spasms during menses.

Fever.--Profuse sweat, smelling like garlic.

Relationship.--Compare: Absinth; Cina; Cicuta.

Several ref suggested give in wine better. I would really water it down. Low potencies are recommended. Below 30X

You see, you were led to use Cina. Follow your intuition, always.

Have you ever consulted eye dr for tinted glasses? Sabra

I'm not familiar with "tinted glasses" for seizure control but I've heard of something similar for dyslexia. I wonder how the glasses would help since her seizures are nocturnal??? Also, she's very touch sensitive, especially her head and face so I doubt she would "allow" glasses to be on her face. I suppose if she needed glasses for sight we'd figure it out, however. Could you give me more info. on these tinted glasses? I have researched and worked some with light therapy at a biological health clinic I worked with in the past. I have not worked with my daughter but wonder if just a simple tinted light in her bedroom would be of help. I love simple, subtle healing ways...sometimes the simple & subtle can be very powerful. We've experienced this with flower essence therapy. I believe violet is the color used...please let me know if you have experience or ideas about light therapies.
Thanks so much for your suggestions.

Sorry, no actual experience. I have all these pieces of info in the recesses of my mind that I bring up if it seems a possible idea. When we begin to search for something specific, it usually shows up in one form or another. Be open and start searching and asking questions. Ask eye doctor if he has heard of something. S.

My wife experience some really scary seizures(mostly nocturnal) during the years she was a vegetarian(she ate cheese and eggs). Now that she is eating meat she feels much more solid and has experienced much fewer.
We read a book called "Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type" and it convinced us to that if you have type O blood then you cannot be a vegetarian. We had success with organic roast beef sandwiches. But its still one day at a time until they are all gone.
