Urine

Kidneys.

Pains in the kidneys (twenty-sixth day),

Pain in the kidneys, especially in the right side (twelfth day),

Pains in the kidneys and bladder,

Pains in the kidneys, worse in the open air,

Some pain in the kidneys (second morning),

Very acute pain in the region of the kidneys (third day),

Pain in the region of the kidney (tenth day),

Evacuation of urine, accompanied by very acute pain in the region of the kidneys (thirty-seventh day),

Sensitiveness over the region of the right kidney, with suppression of urine,

Dull heavy pain in the region of the kidneys (after twenty-three hours),

Bladder.

Discharge of pure blood from the bladder,

Tenesmus of the bladder (twenty-sixth day),

Tenesmus of the bladder, that persisted during the first part of the poisoning, changed after about fifty days to incomplete incontinence of the urine, which was especially troublesome while walking,

A stitch extending from the neck of the bladder into the penis, in the evening, on falling asleep,

(Rather severe pressure in the bladder, with cutting and burning during micturition, lasting throughout the menses, while usually this symptom occurred only during the first day and was very slight),

In all the cases the bladder remained perfectly empty in spite of copious drinks,

Slight spasmodic sensation in the neck of the bladder,

Much pain in the bladder and kidneys (fourth day),

Urethra.

Dribbling of fluid from the urethra (not urine) during stool, and after urinating; also from friction against his clothes, and while talking to a young lady,

Moisture in the orifice of the urethra, as from prostatic fluid,

Glairy mucus in the orifice of the urethra,

Moisture in the orifice of the urethra, that afterwards became yellow, and caused a yellow stain,

Oozing of some prostatic or urethral mucus from the urethra, while the genitals were relaxed,

On urinating the first time after a stool, a few drops of mucus were discharged from the urethra, with pain in the perineum,

Violent burning pain in the anterior portion of the urethra while urinating,

Burning in the urethra, with desire to urinate, in the evening,

Burning pain in the urethra, extending from the scrotum forward, often when not urinating,

Burning in the urethra,

Burning and cutting during micturition,

Sticking-burning pain in the urethra, always provoking to urinate,

Slight burning in the urethra, while urinating,

Disagreeable sensation in the forepart of the urethra,

Pain in the urethra and penis, most violent when urinating,

Sudden drawing, back and forth, in the urethra, extending to the bladder, with constrictive sensation (after ten days),

Cutting on urinating, with bloody urine,

Haematuria (thirteenth, fifteenth, twentieth, twenty-fifth, thirtieth, thirty-fifth, and fortieth days),

The haematuria still continued, after nearly two months, with acute pain in the region of the kidneys and liver, with some jaundice; more than two months afterwards the haematuria, which had gradually ceased, returned after great emotional excitement; at this time there was also profuse bloody vomiting,

Micturition and Urine.

The urine was high-colored and frothy; its specific gravity increased, and it was found to contain albumen and exudation-cells; the coloring-matter was augmented, as were also the sulphates and phosphates, but the chlorides were diminished in amount. This state of urine continued during the whole course of the disease,

During the afternoon she had passed a small quantity of urine, which contained some albumen; and under the microscope it presented a large quantity of epithelium, with casts of tubes, and a few blood-corpuscles (fifth day),

Swelling of the spermatic cord, that, together with the testicle, is painful (during a soft stool),

An ulcer on the prepuce (that soon heals),

Slight pain in the prepuce, while urinating, for several days,

Penis.

Peculiar sensation in the mons veneris, as though a testicle had slipped up there,

Pain in the tip of the glans penis,

Sticking pain in the forepart of the penis, after urinating,

Biting pain in the glans penis, at the close of micturition and afterwards (after thirty-two hours),

A stitch in the glans penis, in the region of the fraenum,

Pruritus of the glans penis, in the evening,

Scrotum and Testicles.

Pain in the scrotum,

Sensation as though one testicle were pushed upward and compressed,

Violent drawing in the testicles,

Pain in the testicles for several days,

Diminished sexual desire, with too sudden ejaculations of semen during coition, lasting for about four months after the proving, and gradually disappearing,

Female

Haemorrhages from the genitals organs (seventh day),

Haemorrhage from the vagina (menstruation?),

Reddish discharge from the vagina, in an old woman,

Scanty bloody discharge from the genitals (the menses had been suppressed for five weeks), (third day),

A whitish discharge from the vagina, with considerable fever, in the evening (fifth day),

Profuse leucorrhoea, lasting seven days (after nine days),

Burning excoriating leucorrhoea, succeeding menstruation,

Slimy leucorrhoea, in the morning, while walking,

Milky leucorrhoea,

Tenacious leucorrhoea instead of the menses (after twenty days),

Acrid leucorrhoea, causing soreness (after five days),

When in a woman the poisoning occurs just before the menstrual period, hyperaemia of the sexual organs obtains; the parietes of the vessels are lowered in their power of resistance by the fatty metamorphosis, and the haemorrhages become more severe, often so severe that general anaemia is a consequence,

OEdema of the labiae, first of the left afterwards of both, followed by gangrenous slough and haemorrhages,

Unusual irritation of the genitals, ,

Unusual irritability of the genital organs,

Sometimes excitement of the genital organs,

Painful heat of the genitals after the emission of turbid highly colored urine (after ten hours),

Tearing pain in the genitals, as from a sore or ulcer, during or after walking in the open air,

Menses two days too early, formerly very thick, now very bright-red,

Constant sensation as though the menses would occur (three days before they were due),

Menstruation came on, with colic and pain in the small of the back, drawing in the lower extremities, and bruised feeling in all the limbs, making her very sick, and taking away all desire to eat or work (had never suffered from similar symptoms before),

Menses pale, with very violent colic, nausea, and diarrhoea,

The catamenia, which ought not to have appeared for eight days, came away in great abundance (sixth day),

In a woman, fifty-one years of age, who had not menstruated for a year and a half the menses came on violently, and lasted five days; the blood had a bad odor,

The menses, that had been suppressed for several weeks, now appeared (third day),

The menses, that had been suppressed for three months, reappeared,

Recurrence of the menstrual flow at an unusual time,

but afterwards, in the fifth month, she was taken with profuse uterine haemorrhage, which, however, was arrested, and miscarriage did not take place.

Genitals

Male.

Great relaxation of the genitals; erections were weak,

Drawing-tensive pain in the spermatic cords,

Violent erections, in the morning (after six days),

Frequent erections, at night (after four days),

Painful erections twice during the night, without dreams,

Frequent and painful erections, which awoke me several times,

In one case (age fifty, dose one-twentieth of a grain, tri-daily), morning erections became more frequent,

In an old man an occasional vigorous erection the first seven days, then none at all for twenty-two days, but from the twenty-ninth to the forty-third again, all the more vigorous,

Extreme irresistible desire for coition,

Strong desire for coition, with feeble erections,

Excessive sexual desire,

(There was no sexual excitement, except in dreams, during the proving, but a slight exhaltation of that function has been noticeable ever since (after three months); in that respect I am quite sure that the Phosphorus had exerted a curative power),

Sexual desire disappears during the first days,

The proving of the drug had a depressing influence upon the sexual organs for several months,

Sexual desire, that has been very active for ten days previous to the proving, becomes suddenly diminished (first day),

Diminished sexual desire, and a sensation as though erections would be incomplete (fifth day),

Complete impotency; no longer erections,

Menses

At first he was tormented by great desire for sexual intercourse; this, however, disappeared at a later period, and for the last six months all erectile power had left him,
