Hepatica Triloba is an old remedy which received its name from a fancied resemblance of its leaves to the shape of the liver. All our definite knowledge of it began with an experiment made by Dr. D. G. Kimball, who chewed the leaves every day for "a chronic irritation of the throat and lungs." A few symptoms were produced, and the symptoms he complained of were removed, notably tickling irritation in throat and sensation about epiglottis as of particles of food remaining. Accumulation of viscid, tenacious phlegm, with frequent hawking. Lungs became much stronger and digestion more perfect.
