7 yr old daughter w/fever &swollen tonsills

My daughter has had a mild fever and swollen, red tonsills for going on five days now. I took her to the doctor yesterday. They took a swab culture to see if she has strep. We get the results tomorrow afternoon. I've read many postings re strep and all the possible complications (scarlet fever, meningitis, etc...) and am very worried and confused. I have not tried any homeopathic remedies because I could not figure out which one to give her based on her few symptoms: mild fever, sore throat only when swallowing, red and enlarged tonsills, small appetite. I have been giving her lots of herbal remedies and started today giving her a Chinese herb called Chuan Xin Lian. I would like to give her a remedy, but don't know if I can mix various herbal remedies with homeopathic remedies, nor do I know which one to give her. If the results come back strep positive, how long can I safely wait to see if these natural remedies will cure her before giving in to antibiotics? And, if she gets better without the use of antibiotics, will she still have the strep in her body that can resurface at a later time, possibly even more severe? I fear we're going to have to give in to antibiotics in the end, after so much time, effort, hope and money put into alternative remedies.
To make reading this easier now, I'll follow the guidline:
1. low-grade fever for 4 days now; sore throat (only upon swallowing); pain extended to left ear on third day, but only when swallowing; can drink warm or cold drinks (doesn't necessarily relieve, not does it make worse); poor appetite; flushed look to face; watery and glassy eyes; no other cold symptoms
2. Throat sore all over, but pain only in left ear
3. Spent last week at summer camp with lots of other kids; woke up Monday morning with fever and sore throat
4. Pain in throat is worse when swallowing; hurst on initial swallowing, but after many swallows of water or food it hurts a little less; fever gets worse in evening when laying down in bed (8 and 9 pm).
5. Prefers cooler weather, shade, away from sun, with cool washcloth on forehead; throat only feels better with Ibuprofin (NONE of the herbal sore throat drops or syrups have relieved pain...); warm feels a little better on throat than cold
6. Has a hard time falling asleep because of pain, but sleeps most of the night through (only wakes up to go to the bathroom); many dreams; talks in sleep (sounds distressed but can't understand what she says); dreams of flying, animals, birds, spiders
7. Sensitive to heat; runs hot at night and cold in the morning; hates to have covers on at night even though she is so cold to the touch; very sensitive to criticism, noise, smells, loud sounds, bright lights; extreme personality, rarely middle of the road on anything; loud voice, lots of animation when talking; many typical Virgo qualities (Virgo sun, Libra rising, Pisces moon);
8. Critical, perfectionist, tends towards jealousy; tends to see glass half empty; stubborn; not snuggly as baby, but always very independant; intelligent, intuitive (cannot pull the wool over this ones eyes about anything....); appreciates beauty, art, nature; very mature for her age; cannot tolerate to see any animals hurt or injured;does not tolerate rude, crude, or violent images (perhaps because I keep her away from these things the best I can);fears spiders (but that might have been passed down from me), shadows at night;
9. loves sushi (smoked albacore and veges), sweets, fruit and most veges; hates egg yokes, pasta sauce, spicy foods (cannot tolerate the least spicy foods), especially hates melted cheese
10. History of childhood URI Asthma from birth to age 4 yrs old, was on nebulizer breathing treatments during those years; has strange ecsema on both ankles; has Candida overgrowth in gut due to antibiotics taken while young (has one drug-resistant strain of yeast in gut - got from me in-vitro)
11. no reactions to other meds
12. We saw a homeopath for about 1 and 1/2 yr - the Doctor didn't feel she found my daughter's remedy; tried treating her with Spongia Tosta, Androctinous (spelling? Scorpion), and Tarantella. Doctor believes her remedy is with insect family due to history with asthma.
13. never asks for food, when she eats she eats very slowly, like she is never hungry; has cold feet often even when body is so warm; warm showers zap her energy; has a natural energy low between 3 and 6 pm; ususally wakes feeling good in the morning with lots of energyl;

I guess I've written quite a lot. I hope somebody can help me with my questions. I would like to try a homeopathic remedy before I use the antibiotics, and I really don't know at what point to 'throw in the flag'. Also, is there something I can give her after the antibiotics to help her body if she has to take them? I'm so worried about her intestinal yeast- she has been on probiotics for a year now to help with that.
Thank you.....

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Oh, I almost forgot to describe her physical characteristics, as I know this is often important: my daughter is tall, very dense (muscular, not fat, but heavy); very thin, straight, fine, silky light brown hair; green and brown eyes; skin color tends to be a little yellowish, like mine, but she tans very nicely and has a nice healthy color to her.

Well, I found out that she has Strep Group G. Her doctor said she doesn't normally treat people with antibiotics who have this type of strep, but since my daughter isn't doing any better after almost 6 days, that I should give her the antibiotics. Is this Group G strep less serious than other types? Should I wait a little longer before giving her the antibiotics? Or could she develop complications from this type of strep if I don't treat it soon with antibiotics?
Any advice would be appreciated.

luckymommy!

Sore throat is caused both by bacteria and virus. In your daughter's case it seems to be the Streptococcus (strep)bacteria. There are several types of strep bacteria. Types A, B, C, D, and G are the likely strains which make people sick.

Group A strep (GAS) is associated with serious illness.

'Group G strep (GGS) leads to infection in people who have chronic conditions or problems with the immune system. GGS can cause a variety of infections, including bacteria in the bloodstream (bacteremia), inflammation of the connective tissue structure surrounding a joint (bursitis), endocarditis (a condition that affects the lining of the heart chambers and the heart valves), meningitis, inflammation of bone and bone marrow (osteomyelitis), and inflammation of the lining of the abdomen (peritonitis) ((http://mercyweb.org/childrens/conditions/illnesses/illness_t....

'Symptoms of strep throat include intense throat pain (generally developing suddenly), difficulty swallowing, and fever ranging from 101° to 104° degrees Fahrenheit. In children, headache, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting may also occur. The back of the throat generally (but not always) becomes beefy red in color, possibly with white or red dots. However, none of these signs or symptoms is absolutely characteristic of strep throat, and in some cases none of these symptoms is present. Ultimately, diagnosis of strep throat must be made through a laboratory examination of material swabbed from the back of the throat.

The primary significance of strep throat is not the throat infection itself, but rather a delayed complication called rheumatic fever. Strep throat itself will disappear in 3 to 5 days even without treatment. However, when a certain group of streptococcal bacteria are involved, called 'Group A beta-hemolytic streptococci,' there is risk of a severe, dangerous complication developing about 1 to 5 weeks later, when all seems to be well. This is the feared sequellae of strep throat known as rheumatic fever' (http://healthlibrary.epnet.com/GetContent.aspx?token=9fb2c26...)

The main problem with your daughter seems to be tonsils and low immunity. Do you find any red or white spots in the tonsils?

Better you follow the advise of your doctor now. You can also make her goggle luke warm salt water (salt mixed in water) as often as possible.

After she becomes normal, try to improve your daughter's immunity through homeopathy and as well you can treat the tonsils. There are dedicated homeopaths in this forum who can help your daughter.

if sun heat aggitation started with this current ill--as well as these dreams--occuring with sore throat --then dose with belladonna..

1 pellet belladonna 30c in 4 oz water--in water bottle---shake--1 teaspoon of this mix in another 4 oz water in drinking glasss-- stir---give child 1 teaspoon dose---repeat every 3 hours--from water bottle solution--shaing before taking teaspoon from and putting inanother 4 oz water...--no more than 4 doses ----no further dosing if any change at all occurs...

Thank you for your responses. Her sun heat aggitation didn't start with this current illness, nor did her dreams start with this. She has always been sensitive to the heat and has been a very lucid dreamer. Perhaps, the current heat wave pattern we are experiencing here in California might have weakened her immunity, though. I don't know....
I just posted another question because she is experiencing more problems. She was prescribed Amoxicillian for her Strep Group G on Saturday. Since then, she has been experiencing insomnia and vomiting. She cannot get to sleep due to anxiety, stomach ache. After finally going to sleep, she wakes up vomiting. She will be fine, but tired, during the day, though. But, tonight, at bedtime, it happend again....anxiety, worry about how she is going to fall asleep (she keeps saying that she has forgotten how to fall asleep...), stomach ache and then vomiting. Is it the antibiotic? What can I give her to help her sleep and to calm her stomach?????

These are the side effects of amoxicillin. Side effects due to amoxicillin include diarrhea, dizziness, heartburn, insomnia, nausea, itching, vomiting, confusion, abdominal pain, easy bruising, bleeding, rash and allergic reactions. If you just stop the medicine, the symptoms will disappear. However, new class of antibiotics are available as replacement to amoxicillin. You can refer your doctor again and ask for opinion. The doctor may suggest another antibiotic. Anyway, you have to improve the immunity of your child to avoid these nasty antibiotics.
