An inspiring story of a healer

Dear friends,

I just thought that i would share this story with you.

There were two friends who studied medicine with a great sage in ancient India. It was a tough and demanding course which lasted for twelve years and now they had come to the end of their studies.Next day they were supposed to pay the gift (Guru Dakshina) to their teacher and depart from the Gurukul (School). But to their surprise, on the penultimate day, the Teacher came to their hut in the night just as they were preparing to sleep.

The teacher told them that he had come to give the very last and the most important lesson of their studies. He told them to never forget the two divine laws of healing. The first was the 'law of healing intention' and the second one was the 'law of doing every healing with a spirit of service'.

He explained that intentions are the most powerful things in the universe and which make the universe run.All the events that take place around us which seem to be beyond our control are the result of 'collective intention'.But for a man whose intentions are clear like the LASER, only those events happen which he wishes. So, in time as a healer perfects his 'higher self' through 'healing intentions', his ability to heal approaches perfection.

The second 'law of doing every healing with a spirit of service' was an even more powerful law than the first. Because in the absence of the 'ego' on the part of the healer, God is compelled to assume the doership of that act.So, the greater the 'spirit of service' that a healer inculcates in his heart, the greater is his ability to invoke God in his 'healings'.These two laws, if followed sincerely, would turn a healer into a 'divine healer' in time. The teacher explained that a 'divine healer' is one who never fails to heal.

After this last lesson, the next day the two friends departed for their homes. Both of them belonged to the same village. After some time, the first friend decided to go to a far off city to start his practice as he wanted to earn more, while the second one decided to saty in his village and serve the people.

A long time passed. Both the friends had become old now.The first one who had gone to the big city forgot his Teacher's last two lessons as the money that he earned and the glamorous clients that he treated swept him off the feet.It so happened that the king's only son fell ill and came under his treatment as he was the best doctor in the city. But since he had not practiced his Teacher's last lessons he could not become a 'divine healer'.He failed to cure the prince. In his over confidence, he had promised that he would cure him and thus raised the king's expectations. The death of his only son made the king mad with anger. He confiscated all his wealth and property and asked him to leave the city with his family.

Having lost the entire life's earnings and reputation, he was now homeless and hopeless. But then he suddenly remembered his friend and decided to go back to his native village to start a practice again. When he and his family were about 50 miles away from his native village, they found that thousands of people were going to the same village to get treatment for their illnesses from 'the divine healer' who never fails to cure. Now his curiosity knew no bounds. When he reached his village early in the morning at sunrise, he found to his surprise that the village was teeming with thousands of patients who had come from far off places to get treatment from 'the divene healer'.He straight away went to the place where his friend used to live.He could not believe his eyes. There was a palace staring at him with dozens of smartly dressed staff taking care of the patients' needs. He went up to the gate and asked the gatekeeper to send a message to 'the divine healer' that his old friend had come to meet him.Straightaway, he was called in.The two friends embraced one another and were so happy at their reunion.

Whole day, the visiting friend sat with 'the divine healer' and his mode of treatment. To his surprise, he found that a patient would come, 'the divine healer' would just place his hand on the patient's head and in a few seconds the patient would be healed.

In the evening when everyone had departed, he asked his friend for the secret of his divine powers. His friend answered that he kept on practicing the last two lessons that their teacher had imparted and in a few years he found that he could cure people with hie 'healing intention' alone, just as the Teacher had promised. He also said that whenever he was in a healing session, he felt someting 'sacred' and 'pure' in his heart, which sent an outflow of overwhelming healing energy towards the patient. He also said that more importantly, I MYSELF AM HEALED and now i realize what our great Teacher actually meant. His hidden message was that a healer should heal himself first to heal others. The two laws that he explained are meant to help in that self healing process.

I hope you like this story.May we all heal ourselves.

With lots of love and best wishes to all,

Rajiv

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Dear Rajiv

Indeed a beautiful story.

'law of healing intention' and the second one was the 'law of doing every healing with a spirit of service'.

and: I MYSELF AM HEALED

Thanks for bringing up this story. I hope we cherish this thread with more stories of wisdom.

Dear Ravi

Thank you for posting that story. It epitomizes the problems that we are suffering from on this forum which I have been often tempted to leave due to the constant harassment that I and a few others have to endure on a daily basis.

It is just the close relationship that I have cultivated with my patients that keep me here on the ABC as I have hope that TRUTH will finally prevail in the immortal words of a sage which I shall copy below:

All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

I would add, may you continue with your healing services without distinction of caste, creed, colour, country, language, sect, religion...in the name of one God...the Creator of all.

The Buddha was sitting in the park when his disciple Malunkyaputta approached him. Malunkyaputta had recently retired from the world and he was concerned that so many things remained unexplained by the Buddha. Was the world eternal or not eternal? Was the soul different from the body? Did the enlightened exist after death or not? He thought, 'If the Buddha does not explain these things to me, I will give up this training and return to worldly life'.

He put these questions to the Buddha who replied, 'Now did I ever say to you that if you led a religious life you would understand these things? It is as if a man had been wounded by an arrow thickly smeared with poison, and his friends, companions relatives were to get a surgeon to heal him, and he were to say, 'I will not have this arrow pulled out until I know who wounded me, of what caste he is, what his name is, whether he is tall, short or of medium height, what colour his skin is, where he comes from, what kind of bow I was wounded with, what it was made of, whether the arrow was feathered with a vulture's wing or a heron's or a hawk's…..' Surely the man would die before he knew all this.'
