Trichotillomania/Hair pulling

Anyone know the top remedies for obsessively pulling out one's own hair?

Anyone had any success in treating it?

Thanks,
Ruth

Hi Ruth. I taught a student years ago who had this habit . She had numerous bald spots and we never did find out the reason for it. However I believe it to be a symptom of stress. Susan

I have resolved almost all cases with Belladonna 30

Thank you Kuldeep. Is that one dose of Belladonna 30c and wait for improvement?

If belladonna works, effect can be seen in about 2 hours.

Repeat the dose when habbit is about to comes back.

Some times one may need the lowest available potency then gradually increase it. Most cases were solved by Belladonna 30.

Hello Sharada:
Many patients with Trichotillomainia have anxiety disorders, Post traumatic Stress, or other physiological issues. Trich is actually an 'Impulse Control Disorder' Bordering on an 'Obsessive ritualistic type Disorder'.
Working with many clients the last thing they want is atttention.

Trichotillomania is an impulse control disorder, not just a bad habit or a temper tantrum. When it starts in very young children it can sometimes be outgrown. When the onset happens during puberty it is unlikely to every do more than pause once in a while. Cognitive therapy has some effects, but it doesn't work for everyone. This disorder does not generally respond to typical psychotropic drug therapy. So far I haven't been able to find a homeopathic that helps me with mine either. We did try belladona already and it made no difference. It's a very tricky disorder as is its 'cousin' compulsive skin picking.

I am a fully trained Homeopath and unfortunately I suffer from Trich. It first occurred when I was 8-9 yrs old and went away of it's own accord naturally. It has now recurred and I am in my 30's. I believe it to be a direct result of extreme stress, as I went through a marriage break up and am now a single parent. Even the shock of witnessing the extent of my hair loss has not been enough to 'snap me out of it'. I believe it is a very deep seeded disorder and have treated myself with Syphilinum 1m, only one dose, and the urges to pull have lessened considerably - 80%. I also tried Lilium Tig 1m previously but I believe this actually made the problem worse. I know self-treating is not ideal but I have been reluctant to see another Homeopath due to the embarrassment.

There's no 'remedy' in the sense that there's no treatment substance or procedure in existence that cures trichotillomania.
