Loose Cough in Toddler

My 2.5 yr old just went through a cold, and usually the last to go is the cough. I believe she's gotten over most of the cold, but the cough sounds loose/rattly. She's acting normal and not terribly thirsty. Her nose sometimes runs. Its been clear, running sometimes all day, or like today, it only ran for a couple of hours this morning. She's had the cough for a week now, and it sounds loose/rattly, with some swallowing at times. This time everything seems to be sitting in her throat when she coughs, not her chest. There's no particular time of the day she coughs, and nothing seems to make it worse. She coughs a few times a day. In the past I've given her Anti. Tart. to knock out the cough when there's been rattly mucous in her chest. Not working this time. Any suggestions, please? thx

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Try Hepar sulph 200C, three doses, 4 hours apart. No more than three doses.

Observe response for a day, and post feed back.

Ensure that there are no odors on the baby,on you, around you,and in the baby's mouth before taking the medicine.

Thank you for your response generalmanager. I should have added that I've also tried Hepar Sulph and Kali Bric both at 30C with no change earlier this week. Would you suggest to try Hepar Sulph again?

if it is possible give me the sequence of remedies/potencies/no.of doses spread over how many days etc. information.

if the child is cheerful and happy, and if the cough is only a minor inconvenience, leave it alone.

It may subside on its own.You have tried most of the head remedies for this condition already.

To help in identifying the correct medicine, you must observe the modalities more closely.

See whether thigs like open air, hot drinks, cold drinks, etc.,make any difference.Any seemingly small thing, may help in zeroing on the medicine.

I always say that, the location, the sensation, and the modality are important for selection of a medicine for acute problems.

In the absence of modality, it will be a trial and error approach. Nothing wrong with it, as long as you limit each medicine to three doses, and give time to observe response.

This is applicable to non serious diseases, as in the present case. In case of serious problems, you may not have that much time to experiment, and you may have to seek professional help.

This is what I've done so far:

All last week - 30C Anti Tartar every 2-3 hrs, about 5-6 doses

Sun & Mon - 30C Anti Tar every 2-3 hrs, about 5-6 doses

Tues - 30C Kali Bich, every 4 hrs, about 3 doses

Wed - 30C kali bich & 30C Hepar Sulph & 30C Anti Tar, every 4 hours combined, about 3 doses each (becoming desparate & concerned)

Thurs - 30C Hepar Sulph, every 4 hours, 3 doses

Fri - 30C Anti Tar, every 4 hours, 3 doses

I would leave the cough alone, but am a little nervous. The first time she had a rattly chest cough, I did nothing and she came down with pneumonia. Didn't want her dependant on drugs and a nebulizer, so I sought out homeopathy. Been using Anti Tar ever since with her cleared up in 2 days. Thought perhaps a different remedy in this case.

I've observed thus far:
asks for cold water, never has had a hot drink in her life

was very thirsty Wed. Thirst has been normal since then

prefered to have her socks off all day today

no difference/preference in cold, warm, or open air

Hi black berry

You have used many medicines rather too quickly.

My advice will be to wait it out, and intervene only if the situation is getting worse.

If there is gradual improvement, don't do anything.

If, it remains stand still, come back after a week.

Hi Jacob

You are as abrasive, as I am, despite good knowledge. That is why people of our sort are not liked by many. : )

I have found with experience after throat and cold gets cleared up, aloose cough remains and a few doses of Pulsatilla 30 clears it.
Give the baby two doses of Puls 30 for two days and report

Gavinimurthy, its really pathetic that person who finds problem with everyones prescription is himself prescribing Hepar Sulph, like an idiot.

Hepar sulphur is a dangerous drug to use, in baby when u r prescribing without seeing the patient and that also in potency which can result in suppuration and makes matters much worse.

First study, increase ur knowledge and then find faults with others. Understood....... u son of hahnemann.

Know the side effects first then prescribe.

Dear Surojit,
While you did use some harsh language with Murthy...(the type Murthy has been using with others quite often without any self-checks...), from your post I feel that you have a good knowledge of Homeopathy. I have seen your other posts too.

Can you be kind enough to give us some details of your background and then give us benefit of your suggestions too.

Thanks,
