Remedies for flatulance

We keep on hearing about Nat.phos,Carbo veg, and Lycopodium for flatulance.

Nat.phos works for sourness in the stomach..sour eructations, sour pain.

Though it helps majority of the flatulancce cases, for a total cure other remedies too are required.

Lycopodium is one of the leading trio of flatulent remedies, Carbo veg. and China being the other two.

With Lycopodium there seems to be an almost constant fermentation of gas going on in the abdomen, which produces a loud croaking and rumbling. Remember, while China bloats the whole abdomen Carbo veg. prefers the upper and Lycopodium the lower parts. With Lycopodium this flatulent condition is very apt to occur in connection with chronic liver trouble. Again this rumbling of flatulence is often found particularly in the region of the splenic flexure of the colon or left hypochondria

This is from Nash.

Another important distinguishing feature of China is great flatulence, with sensation as if the abdomen were packed full; not ameliorated by eructation or passing flatus.

Carboveg has Excessive flatulence, pressing upward, stomach and abdomen.

Carboveg is worse lying down, and likely to have a burning sensation too.

As alreay told Lyco has Great flatulence with rumbling, mostly intestinal and pressing downward. There i croaking and rumbling in the abdomen, due to fermentation of gas.

Now, see how easy it is to select a medicine depending on the symptoms?

What is the need to alternate two medicines and spoil the case?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
While many homeopathic books talk of four great meds for flatulence:

1. Lycopodium
2. Carbo Veg.
3. China
4. Aloe

I have found the following two meds also very effective:

1. Antim Crud.
2. Argentum Nitricum.

Pl. see drug pictures and of the meds, jot down the symptoms of the patient and then see which fits best.

Argentum Nitricum

Irresistible desire for sugar; most gastric ailments are accompanied by belching; belching after every meal, stomach as if it would burst with wind, belching difficult; finally air rushes out with great noise and violence.' All of these are characteristic, and there is no doubt that this remedy is sometimes indicated when Carbo veg., China or Lycopodium are given because they are generally so much better understood. Dyspepsia, gastralgia and even gastric ulcer have sometimes found a powerful remedy in Argentum.

Antimonium Crdum

This remedy, like the three(Nux.v,Puls,Bry) of which we have been writing, has a strong affinity for the alimentary canal. Its leading characteristic is in its thickly-coated, white, very white, white as milk, tongue.

Many remedies have white tongue, but this one leads them all. It is also a great stomach remedy, and in disorders of this organ arising from over-eating, where there is much nausea, distress, and especially the characteristic tongue, it is to be thought of before any of the three of which we have written. It is especially to be considered if the gastric derangement is of recent date. The process of digestion is hardly under way; the eructations taste of the food as he ate it, and the sufferer feels as if he must 'throw up' before there will be any relief.

Aloe

Again a very characteristic symptom in the Aloe diarrhœa is 'Great rumbling in the abdomen just before stool,' and the feeling of weight in the rectum already mentioned is not always confined to the rectum, but is also felt through the whole pelvis and abdomen.

From Nash

**************

Argentum Nitricum is an equally good remedy for flatulance. The symptoms of loud belching, belching after every meal are charecteristic.

Coming to Antim.crudum,it is not really for flatulance, but is generally indicated for indigestion, alongwith,Nux.v,Puls, and Bry. We will discuss these some other time.

Aloe is generally not used for flatulance alone. Its charectreic symptom is great rumbling in the abdomen just before stool, and he can't hold it even for a minute, once he gets the urge.
It is more a diarrhoea medicine.

Thanks Pankaj

for making me provide thisadditional information.

Out of the Bio-chemics...Joe has been recommending for a very long time NAT PHOS.

And it is very good.

My own recommendations ...many times here on ABC ...have been.... a mixture of NAT PHOS 6X and MAG PHOS. 6X

The combination is excellent for all kinds of stomach ailments.

Best wishes,
Pankaj Varma

PANKAJ VARMA last decade
Nat.Phos 6X is for 'sourness'.sour stomach,sour eructations,what is generally known as 'acidity'.

It won't cure a arg.nitricum, or a lycopodium flatulancce.

Mag.phos is for cramping pains, where ever they may be, including stomach.

This for that approach won't help.

There is no single recipe for 'all kinds of stomach ailments.'

Murthy ...Bio-chemics are also taken as tonics. The body needs all 12 of them.

Go and read what Dr. Schussler said....he propounded the Theory for Bio-chemics...(not Dr. Hahnemann).

Dear Pankaj

Why do you assume that I have not read Dr. Schussler?

Anybody who is interested in homeopathy, will automatically know about biochemics also, as they are complimentary to one another, most of the time.

No one can say that nat.phos 6X and mag.phos 6X are not homeopathic medicines.

They are made based on the general guidelines of homeopathy.

They are first homeopathic medicines, and then being called as bio chemic medicines, later.

Perhaps you are aware that Schussler was born much later than Hahn.

I opened my post saying 'Bio-chemics'.

May I inform all readers...Murthy is trying to mislead you.

I know of many people who take Combo No 28 of Bio-chemics at regualar intervals....and reamin very healthy. I have recommended it to many many people and all have come back with great responses.

This Combo contains all 12 Bio-chemic remedies as listed out by Dr. Schussler.

These are not strictly homeopathic. They are a deviation of Homeopathy.

Bio-combinations are very effective.

Combo No 11 is the most effective for fever. Haven't seen an allopathic drug or a homeoapthic med that will bring down fever that fast. ....and without any side effects.

This Combo No. 11 contains 4 Bio-chemical salts.

Goes against the Philosophy of Dr. Hahnemann....but is very effective.

It is based on the Philosophy of Dr.Schussler....also of Germany.

In the past I have made many posts on Bio-chemic salts (Tissue Salts). You will find them in the Archives.

Don't let people mislead you.

And you have to take Bio-chemics in repeat doses ...not like homeopathic meds.

PANKAJ VARMA last decade
Now, we are totally deviating from the subject of 'flatulant remedies'

I will open a seperate thread on these 'bio chemic combinations, in the evening.

Please don't derail this thread.

Let us discuss about remedies for flatulance here.

As long as the temperature does not rise on the thread, this form of discourse helps to spread the Homeopathic message.

Thank you to both Pankaj and Murthy.

Dear Joe as long as hypothesis, experiences and technical aspects go together, all are benefited.

Dear friends,

It is nice to see at least one thread where most of the leading protagonists of this great 'tussle' on this most popular homeopathic forum are cooperating in spreading awareness about major anti-flatulence remedies.

I will contribute my bit to this by sharing a bit of information which i consider very precious and coming from personal experience.Whenever i or my family go to a party and are treated to a very sumptuous and rich meal, and suspect an upset stomach with flatulence, diarrhoea etc. the next day, we take Pulsatilla 30C one dose and next day all of us are fine.I have found it work almost as a prophylaxis in close to 100% cases.I would like people to try this tip and test for themselves, and don't forget to share the results of those experiences.

Dear Pankaj

Constipation is a stomach ailment, and if it is due to inactive thyroid, would you still recommend Nat Phos.

Dear Murthy, what is your say on the above

To Rajiv

I have always taken just 2 tablets of Nat Phos 6x which I use a routine whenever I eat away from home which is very rarely. I have observed that even if others at my table have suffered from food poisoning and had to enter hospital, my wife and I who had the same food did not have any problems. She also took the NP.

There was this interesting episode in the history of the Hilton in Colombo where a society wedding was held about a year ago and the prawn entree was contaminated and over 85% of the guests ended up with severe vomiting and diarrhoea.

Proof of the Pudding ?

hi Sazim

The symptoms are important.Homeopathy can cure even without diagnosis.

The diagnosis may perhaps help in prognosis.

If you match the symptoms, and give a similar remedy,it should help.

Asafoetida 30 for upset stomach after eating all sorts of snacks and sweets particularly during FESTIVALS.

maheeru last decade
Hi Rajiv

You are mixing up indigetion remedies with flatulance remedies : )

The head remedies for indigestion are Nux.v,puls,Bry and Ant.crudum.

I will start a seperate thread on indigetion remedies, when time permits.

Anyway,Pulsatilla helps you perhaps because your parties are mostly non vegetarian. : )

If you get drunk then don't forget about Nux.vomica.

Flatus from mix carb & protein in meal eg. Pasta with meat sauce ... gives me bad time ? Which remedy best in such case?

carlotta last decade
what are the symptoms?

how much time elapses after eating to get these symptoms?

what makes them to subside?

gavinimurthy last decade
Is it only flatus?

How does it smell?

Does it sound loud?

gavinimurthy last decade
Bread and sugar tend to make me bloated and gassy, so tend to avoid. NO candida probs, btw , and sometimes am ok with them -
Usually dose of Lyc clears up any discomfort.

But have noticed recently after heavy meals-eg heavy carbs like pasta and dense proteins like meat sauces... same problems. But not so bloated an abdomen as above, but as much gas, yes bad smell - kinda 'eggy' (which suppose makes me think sulphur?). yes sounds loud, while gas lyc related (for me) can be either.

Just so you know, have been working with John stanton off board on deeper issues and, just for your info, took dose of nat mur LM1 beginning of Aug.. to great effect. Since been having acid related probs ..acid foods/drinks can't tolerate well. He recommended dose of phos acid lm1. This is just f.y.i for background of what i've been taking.

carlotta last decade
Hi Carlotta

I don'have any experience with lms. since you are already taking some homeopathic remedies,it is not correct on my part to prescribe for you.

These are the medicines for offensive flatus from Murphy's repertory.

Aloe(2),arn(1),bry(1),carb.v(2),feer-ma(1),graph(1),olnd(1),sil(1),sul(1)

However reperory is only a rough guide, and the totality is what is important.

Please check with John.

Carlotta,
If you open a new thread and post full details of your case..preferably answer the questionnaire of Dr. Deoshlok (pick it up from another thread)...we can help you.
