7-year-old boy with Dengue

Hi friends:

I am feeling very much disappointed while posting this post. A 7-year-old developed fever from 4.P.M. today, October 20, 2006 with high fever, vomiting, and headache. The patient’s mother is recovering from dengue fever ( see post attack of dengue with bleeding gums). The mother give me a call at 5:30 p.m. The child was on Eup. Per. 200 C and Ipecac 200 C but unfortunately got dengue. The risk of dengue in Delhi and NCR is very high. These patients were from Nandgram (Ghaziabad). While my visit to this area last Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday I noticed significant number of dengue cases.

I advised the patient to continue with Eup. Per. 200 and Ipecac 200 and go to my residence where I had leave a fever case taking sheet and bring that and fill these sheet options and sms me.

All serious advises are warm welcomed as it is a matter of a lovely child’s life.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.

It is essential that patients of dengue fever should use mosquito nets.

The mosquito that bites the patient can easily transmit the fever to other member's of the family.

It is essential to protect other member's of the families. Please spread the word.

This is one of the precautions I read in a news paper, and seems logical.

Hi Saroj

The child may've picked the infection from the mother. Eup is okay for dengue.(Its a regular in dengue fevers.). How's the child's platelet count ?

If the fever's haemorrhagic means best choices are snake remedies like crotalus or Lachesis according to symptoms. After fever's down china could be given.

If fever is very high, intercurrent use of pyrogen/sulphur 200 may be warranted.(I usually use them dry)

In these acute states, administration of the selected remedy dissolved in water and frequent repetitions even half hourly or one hourly depending upon the severity is essential. (Before every subsequent dose, stirring should be done to slightly increase the potency)

I hope others will respond with their valuable input.

You are quite right But what are doing our goverments. No seperate wards for dengue patient and no extra precaution to avoid M. Bite. I strictly warned the family to avoid m.bite but they failed.

Its a bit difficult to avoid mosquito bite. In a fraction of second, aedes kind of mosquito can do its job without letting the person know. Only after the itching he/she might perceive the bite. They are small and operate in day time during which humans dont expect them to bit.

Saroj...if fever is shooting up very high ...try Pyrogenium.

Also covers vomiting and septic states.

In South India..doctors have found it effective against Chickenguniya...it is a sister virus of Dengue.

If there is bleeding ..see Maheeru's advice.

Can also try Phosphorus (vomiting + fever + throat symptoms + fever + haemorrhages anywhere + burning sensations + back aches).

Phosphorus is also a liver remedy.

It is important to give something side by side to pep up the liver so that blood count does not drop.

These are emergency situations...don't hesitate to try different meds. You can also combine/alternate meds that are not inimicals.

Best wishes,

I just received a call from mother whom last night I advised Eup 200, Ipcac 200, and Rhus 200 half hourly while the child report three vomiting of clear water with fever, headache, and leg pain. In early morning mom give me a call and told that condition is better and she is also feeling more energy. I advised to get check blood tomorrow as platelets falls significantly on 3rd and 4th day after onset of fever

Phosphorus..."water is thrown up as soon as it gets warm in the stomach'.

Saroj...when ever there is vomiting...the mind thinks of Ipecac.

However, it is good to look for some of these symptoms:

1. PHOSPHORUS..vomiting of water about an hour after drinking the water ...when it has become warm in the stomach.

2. VERATRUM ALB.....Likes drinking cold water but vomits it as soon as he will drink the same. Also loose motions.

3.AETHUSA .... Vomiting of milk....also curded milk.

4. IrisVER. .... bloody and yellow in colour..containing bile.

5. BELLADONNA.... when redness is there on face , cheeks, ears etc.

6. PYROGENIUM .... coffee ground colour of vomiting.

7. PLUMBUM MET. ...continued and violent vomiting of greenish, yellowish and blackish matter.

8. ARSENIC ALB. ...when caused by consuming decayed food...food poisioning.

9. Antim Crud. ... when tongue is coated white.

Best wishes,

Hi Saroj

Your choice of remedy Ipecac was good. I hear now that some official body of homeopathy in Delhi had announced two months earlier that Eup.perf and Ipecac as well-indicated(genus epidemicus)in Dengue cases.

Ipecac comes first in remedy selection before snake remedies as its from vegetable kingdom and also works well on dengue fevers associated with haemorrhage and nausea/vomitting. Chill also may be present.
(Reference:morrison desktop guide and radar keynotes v4).

If ipecac fails then you have to opt for snake remedies.

Hi friend while posting this post i am somewhat relax regarding the child's condiation. As i mentioned earlier, the child was on Eup. Per 200 and Ipecac 200 but develop symptoms like dengue i.e. fever, vomiting, body ache with family history of recent possible dengue exposure. Symptoms started on friday evening and i added Rhus. Tox 200 C and afterword there is gradual improvement in patient's condiation without fever and pain and child was playful also but there is weakness. i am suspecting there may be deteroration of condiation as may be platelet count will be decreasing. i have asked the parents to get a CBC on Monday. The patient is on Vitamin C 1000 mg three times a day for prevention of any possible bleeding. Please suggest medincines, which you have seen can cause rise in platelet count or prevent their destruction and so prevent bleeding also. Once again Happy Diwali Friends

Hi Saroj

Once again for platelet count increase and to prevent destruction Crotalus leads the list. Other remedies which have been useful to me are Lecithin 6x and calc. phos 6x.

Wheat grass juice is excellent in increasing platelet count.

Dear Saroj and Maheeru,
Quite a few homeopaths prescribe IPECAC the moment a patient utters 'vomiting'.

Also many homeopathy books say vomiting = Ipecac.

However, my own experience is that it does not work in all cases of vomiting. It works only where there is also pain around the navel area and continued coughing.

That is why I made out a list of other meds useful in such a condition. Pl. also look for the associated symptoms and then decide.

Best wishes,

Dear friends i am feeling great while post this post as the 7-year-old boy is totally asymaptomatic without any complaint at present time. I think homoeoapthy done lot for him and his family. The possilbe case of Dengue run his own course without giving much trouble to the patient and family. The patient was on preventive Eup. Per. 200 and Ipecac 200 while he developed symptoms like dengue and i added Rhus. Tox 200 to the treatment regimen and got excellent response within 6 hours as symtpoms started 5 P.M. and boy Rhus. Tox 200 at 9. P.M. and about 1. a.m. improved 50% and on morning recovered 75% and on evening he was about 95% okay as no symptoms, no pain, good energy level and playful. The patient is still on those medication mentioned above but the interval of medicine is now 4 hour alternately and the case is still under observation.
