Help with remedy for Thrush (mom & child)

My daughter (9wks) and I have been battling thrush now for 4 weeks. I've been on diflucan 100mg and Nystatin cream and child on nystatin suspension. Symptoms for me are extremely sore and reddened nipples, more on right due to open wound from nursing or thrush and white tongue. My Symptoms get worse after 8pm resulting in extreme pain while nursing and also back pain. Child seems to be unaffected, but constantly wants to nurse and is producing more saliva than normal.

Currently I am taking Borax 30 as recommened by acupuncturist, but not working well. I would like to seek other recommendations. If more info is needed to advise remedy please let me know specifically what you need to know. Thank you in advance for any help.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Oh - I've been there! First - diflucan is contraindicated for babies. It can cause liver damage - I know this from personal experience. Our previous doctor's wife was a med student and they just learned it is no longer recommended for babies or nursing mothers. Unfortunately, that information has not yet and maybe never will reach the thousands of doctors out there who are prescribing it.

Since you are having the pain in your back, it means the yeast is within your milk ducts and system. Are you taking a good probiotic? I would recommend Culturelle which can be bought at CVS in the yeast treatment/vitamin section. You can also make a paste out of it and put it on your nipples (mix with breastmilk). You don't need to wipe it off. You can also put an 1/8 of capsule in a bottle of expressed milk (just need an ounce).

You can also try GSE (grapefruit seed extract) which kills off the yeast systemically. Start slow! 1 drop in about 2 oz of juice (it's very bitter). Work up to 5 or 6 drops per day in a small glass of juice (OJ masks the taste the most). But this stuff works!

Borax is well indicated especially with the excess saliva and if the baby's mouth feels hot when nursing. Otherwise, try Kali Muriaticum which is indicated for infant thrush with white coated tongue.

For you, try Phytolacca Decandra which is for sore cracked nipples where pain radiates from the nipple all over the body. Also with excess saliva. Or Silica which has nipples cracked and sore with bleeding, pain in breast, sudden sharp pains while baby is nursing and back ache while nursing.

For baby, try Baby JarroDophilous which is a probiotic (helps add back in good bacteria to counter the yeast). You can find it in the refridgerated section of most major healthfood stores. It is gentle and has a special probiotic that only babies have.

Lastly, ask your doctor for Triple Nipple cream. The ingredients are:
100, 000 units/ml Nystatin (15 grams)
0.1 % Betamethasone (15 grams)
2% Mupirocin ointment (15 grams)

The doctor will have to write a script. But it will take the pain away in about two days. The pain in the nipples can mean staph is present. This cream is the only thing that got us over the cycle.

I hope that helps. Good luck. Hang in there. I know it is so painful.

ANother effective non-homeopathic is Gentian Violet(spelling?) good allopathic pharmacies may keep in stock. Its messy but seems to work well. Apply topically.

Sycotic last decade
The only problem with gentian violet is that it contains mercury and this is not good for babies.

Busymomme, thanx so much 4 the reply. We are currently trying gentian violet, so am going to stop that due to your advice and start with your suggestions. As for the Phytolacca Decandra & Kali, can u recommend a strength and how often to take?

Im currently taking gse orally, 500mg 3xs a day, is liquid a better route?

Also, after doing a search here I am going to start taking chien chin, a chinese herbal supplement for yeast.

Please let me know if this is a good plan of action and if I should omit or add anything else.

I cant wait till this is in our past!

What strengths to use on the other remedies (kali mur), 30 as well??? And c or x? 3 x's a day?

tkeeman last decade
silica in Homeopathic potency 30 C or simply 30. First take this remedy thrice a day for 3 days and post the progress here. No need to take medicine for the infant as this remedy's power will transfer to it.

kali seemed to help my mouth condition and my childs white tongue, but she still has white spots on gums?? I am wondering if we should try silicea or borax for three days and see if it helps. if someone could pls advise. i am still taking chien chin.

Dear tkeeman, another approach, which no one seems to have touched upon is to actually give the candida nosode, i.e a Homoeopathic potency of candida itself. I have seen this Isoapthic approcah work in cases of flu and other acute conditions with a microbial cause, when WELL selected remedies fail, so this may something worth considering.

Best wishes.

Since Kali mur has helped you, you can try it another 3 days after a gap of 2 days. This time you can also give this remedy to your daughter as she has white spots on her gums. Plz report the progress.

If possible also take acidophillus natural supplementation.

Also Kali phos 6x tissue salt 3 tablets twice a day for a few days will help you and your child.

This thread seems to have ended and I don't know which has worked for anyone. I too have thrush of nipple at the moment. I had it with my two previous children and never got rid of it but so far with homeopathy advice I have kept it at bay. Even still I contracted it and am now concerned how to get rid of it. My baby is 5 wks old and is presenting no symptoms. I only have in one side at the moment and would love to just knock it on the head for once and for all. I am taking acidopholous and was taking a probiotic also. When I stopped taking this I think it kicked it but I didn;t realise for a few days. It seems to me that Borax is for vaginal thrush and also merc sol. too busymommie I have seen yr varius suggestions but there appears to be so many I would be grateful if you or anyone could advise as my baby is not presenting symptoms. I look forward to a response from anyone who has succeeded or indeed has a solution. I will try the GSE as I have read this elsewhere also. Thanking u in advance

This is why I hate these forum readings....people get help and never come back to tell which one worked to also help others.Too bad!

Irrespective of the feedback, those who look for help shall present their case so that somebody can help them.
