Hayfever/asthma treatment? | From aquamama [Log on to view profile] | on 2004-09-01 |

I'm somewhat new to the world of homeopathy, and became interested during my last pregnancy when I learned that homeopathic treatments are considered to be safe during pregnancy. I am now looking to treat my hayfever/asthma symptoms. I had been using corticosteriod inhalers and nasal sprays for about 7 years (before that I took pills for about 10 years). I am now 28 years old. My 3rd child was born in Novemeber, and it was then that I stopped taking all medications. I was amazed to find that my symptoms were all gone, and if I got sick I was able to get well more quickly. However, we recently moved to a new home. It was about the time that we moved out of our old house and stayed with my mother for 2 months that my allergy symptoms returned. I am still battling the allergies, and have had some asthmatic symptoms return as well. Also, my nose (inside) is very inflammed and I keep getting pimples on the lining of my nostrils. Other symptoms include itchy throat and sneezing. I sometimes have a stuffy nose and itchy ears. It always seems worse in the morning. I was thinking sulphur might be a good remedy to try, but then I read that women generally don't fit in to the sulphur constitutional type (but I'm not really sure if that matters or not since I'm so new to all of this...) I do have other "symptoms" that don't necessarily have anything to do with the allergies, but I don't know if it is necessary to list those or not. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it!

Thanks for the reply. I'll post the hayfever symptoms again here, as well as those symptoms that may or may not be related...
Scratchy throat sneezing inflammed nostrils--sore (raw feeling) with pimples on lining inside (both nostrils) itchy ears (deep inside) itchy nose mild congestion runny nose (clear)--mainly in the morning sensation of pressure behind eyes (not constant; comes and goes Asthma symptoms (much more mild compared to the hayfever symptoms; these come and go)-- tight chest wheezing/whistling
Other symptoms: PMS--last half of cycle (I am still nursing my 9 month old almost exclusively, but my periods returned about 4 months ago. This is about the same time that my allergies flared up). irritability grouchiness anxiety fatigue compulsion to eat even when not hungry compulsion to eat ravenously
I have a history of migraines that seem to be related to my periods; thankfully those haven't returned at this point though.
I also have a rash that comes and goes. It appears on my abdomen, under my left breast. It is just a big pink blob, slightly raised, and very itchy. It tends to spread up onto my breast. I had it when I was pregnant--around April of 2003. It came back almost exactly a year later, and I had it again probably about a month ago.
This seems very unrelated, but I sometimes experience a recurring hip/back pain on my left side. It flares up esp. during pregnancy, but also when I do anything remotely strenuous (like vaccuming).
I think that pretty well sums it up--thanks again for helping me figure this out!

please explain more thoroughly --the migraines---and how they relate to menses?
| Re: Hayfever/asthma treatment? | From aquamama [Log on to view profile] | on 2004-09-03 |
Well, I first started getting migraines when I was going through puberty at about the age of 13. They came every month or so; this continued about 3 years (probably arond the time I started taking oral contraceptives). I had my 1st child at the age of 22. My period returned 6 wks after he was born; no migraines. My 2nd child was born when I was 25. My period returned approx. 14 months postpartum, and along with it came the migraines. I would get one a couple of days before my period. In fact I thought I might be pregnant again one month when I *didn't* get a migraine (and I was right). Although my period has returned now since the birth of our 3rd child, the migraines have not returned. Hope that all makes sense; please let me know if I can clarify anything. | This thread continues beneath the following ad.

just to clarify--I meant that the migraines stopped probably around the time I started taking oral contraceptives. They never returned until after the birth of my 2nd child.

No, I stopped using oral contraceptives in 1997 before our 1st child was conceived. I am currently taking no prescription medications.

please list ALL medicines/treatments currently using.

Currently I'm not taking any prescription medication. I do have a Ventolin inhaler to use for my asthma in case of a bad attack. This happens only rarely. I take prenatal vitams as well as calcium/magnesium supplements, acidophilous, B6, and B12 supplements. A few weeks ago I took some herbal remedies that I thought might help with my PMS--those were Vitex, dandelion, and nettle. I'm not currently taking those, however.

Well, I took a dose last night; no improvement so far. I did, however, start my period today (which had been very delayed--it ended up being almost an 8-week cycle). Not sure if that's a result of taking the nux-v or not.

what is current status?
| Re: Hayfever/asthma treatment? | From aquamama [Log on to view profile] | on 2004-09-23 |
For a few days after the dose, my allergies got really bad. My mood also got really bad--I was grouchy and angry all of the time. Things seem to have calmed down over the last couple of days, though; I'd say I'm back to about where I was. So, no marked improvement but no worse either. I have also noticed that I seem to be very anxious/nervous for no apparent reason.
| Re: Hayfever/asthma treatment? | From John Stanton [Log on to view profile] | on 2004-09-24 |
have you ever experienced anxiety /nervousness like this before in life?please explain
| Re: Hayfever/asthma treatment? | From aquamama [Log on to view profile] | on 2004-09-24 |
Yes, I have. I remember feeling this way when my menses returned after my 2nd child. So perhaps it is hormonal. Along with the anxiousness/nervousness I seem to overanalyze things (especially little things) especially where time and money are involved. I think I end up putting a lot of stress on myself. But I'm not like this all of the time so it ends up frustrating me when I do find myself in this frame of mind. Hope that makes sense!

Aquamama, are you still taking nux-vomica? How are your symptons? I too suffer from the allergy/asthma type symptoms you describe and am eager to find a natural solution to releive symptoms. Every year I hope I will grow out of suffering (now aged 41) - not yet!
