Enlarged tonsils
My son is 6 years old. Since he was 3 years old he has his tonsils enlarged. He start coughing at the same time. Doctor said that he might have asthma and treated for it with puffers but it dodn't help. Then I read about the chemicals in laundry products so we switched to safer products and his couthing stopped since, but his tonsils are still enlarged. After few rounds of antibiotics that didn't help, the specialist recommended their removal, but we didn't want to go with this idea. So we waited hoping for better. After research on internet we decided to go to Naturopath doctor. He asked us to give him Baryta Carbonica 200c 3 pellets in the morning and before bed. He also asked us to help him gargle in the evening with Echinacea with golden seal. He was doing it for 4 month, with just a little improvement. Now the doctor asked us to stop the Baryta but continue with the gargle. His tonsils are still big, but they don't touch each other anymore. He doesn't feel any pain, is waking up at night, stops breathing for a few seconds at night, breaths through his mouth during the day, sweat a lot during sleep. We tried to eliminate wheat and milk products from his diet but it didn't help. Please help we don't want to go for a surgery.dorocia on 2006-06-12

Can someone help me with this problem please. There is so many posts after mine that got the answer, but not mine. I read all other posts about the same health problems but I know that in homeopathy every sickness is unique and should be treated that way. Please help what should we do next with my son to help him. I don't want to remove the tonsils. Please help. Thank you

we want to know about his general nature, his response to cold and hot climates, his likes and dislikes, cravings and aversions in food, his fears etc.
baryta carb is a suitable remedy for such problems if some other symptoms match.

His biggest fear is to sleep by himself in his room, in the middle of every night he is comming to our bedroom to sleep with us. He got very hard time to wake up in the morning to school. He crave for sweets (chocolate, ice cream, chocolate milk), doesn't like vegetables too much. He loves hamburgers, pasta or pizza and that's the only foods that he doesn't complain to eat. Even though he eats lots of sweets and pasta whenever he can he is still very skinny. He is 4 ft 2inch. tall but weights only 55lbs. We live in Canada so the climate is mostly cold and cool, but summers are humid and hot. Hot or cold weather doesn't bother him. He likes to spend lots of time outside playing. He is coghing a little in summer maybe because of polution because our city is very poluted. I forgot to mention that do to the large size of his tonsils he got water in his both ears, the specialist wanted to insert tubes into his ears but we decided not to. The last time we went to the doctor he checked and his ears were clear (maybe because of the little smaller tonsils or maybe the Baryta Carbonica 200C helped him). He is very active and hyper, sometime we have a hard time to calm him down. The teacher said that he has very short attention span, but he is a good student, his marks are good. Most of the non-toxic products that I use for cleaning in my house or to do my laundry have tea tree oil -melaleuca oil in them. My friend told me about it when her son was diagnosed with asthma and since she switched to those products he didn't get any asthma attacks, same as with my son.

My son stopped eating pastas and bread products for about 2 weeks, all he ate during that time was gluten free and wheat free products. I'm not sure if they had sulfates in them but we know now that he is not allergic to gluten or wheat. I remeber that when I was a child I had big tonsils. Not sure if as big as my son has, but I remeber that every time I went to a doctor he thought that I have sore throat and he gave me some Rx for it. Maybe it is genetic. I alsways was breathing through my mouth and I got so much used to it that I'm still doing it during my sleep and many times during the day.

I did not read your post up to today and would like to suggest that you have a swab and culture test done at the nearest Path Lab to check for the bacteria Beta Haemolyticus Streptococcus which may be the cause of your sons enlarged tonsils which you have stated are filling his throat space.

if BARYTA CARB has not worked much, try BELLADONA 30C and take it 3 times a day for 10 days.

You have asked for the address of the company and I presume that you referred to my mentioning Path Lab. This term stands for Pathology Laboratory. There should be many in your city which is I believe Dubai and it is essential that you first have a swab done of your daughter's tonsils to identify the bacteria that is the cause of her ailment.
I believe that she has been suffering from this problem for some time up to now and it is essential that you follow my advice and have a culture done to identify the bacteria causing her tonsilitis and the ABST or Antibiotic Sensitivity Test will indicate the antibiotic that this bacteris is most sensitive to which you can use after consulting your doctor.

Please let me know if you had success with your son. My son's tonsils are also enlarged and surgery has been recommended, but I do not want his tonsils out.

After using Baryta Carbonica for about 4 months his tonsils are smaller than they were at the beginning, but they are still big. I also notice that he is breathing through his nose during sleep more often. The only reson that I didn't want to get his tonsils out is that he doesn't get any tonsillitis. He got big tonsils but he doesn't feel any pain. If he would have to take antibiotics few times a year I probably would get his tonsils out, because antibiotics may do a lot of harm to children. We went to our naturopath doctor 2 days ago and he said that he is happy with the result and now we just have to wait and his tonsils should go back to normal size. It's very difficult to wait, because I would like to see them back to normal size now but I'm happy with the difference in size I see now.

Thanks for your reply! I think I will ask about the Baryta Carbonica and give it a try. My son's situation is similar: he doesn't feel any pain, but his tonsils are very large. I am hoping they will shrink over time! I recently took him for a school physical and the doctor almost insisted his tonsils should be removed, with no alternative. It's very frustrating that many doctors I've encountered assume drugs and surgery are the only solution.
