Learning Troubles - Feeling Overwhelmed

Hi there,

I would like to learn more about homeopathy for the purpose of self-medicating, and for my family too.

My problem is that I get so confused and overwhelmed when I am looking at the remedies for whatever ailment, and I start second-guessing my choices. I don't feel confident and put it in the too-hard basket.

I do have a regular practitioner that I see but I don't want to bombard her with questions.

What advice can you give to a newcomer for this? What are some books or links that explain very easily what I need to get started and how I can choose a remedy with confidence?

Thank you.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I suggest you to have these two books:
Prescriber by Clarke and Materia Medica by William Boericke
Clarke has given excellent intro on how to use the book and choose the medicine.

Once you choose a medicine, you should read about the origin of the medicine from Wiki. If it is toxic in any form you should never give (Rhus Tox is one example and I never use, even if well indicated. I have seen it improving acute conditions, but after that it deteriorates the health due it toxicity). I have consistently observed any toxic plant or origin hurts sick in a long run, although it may show some immediate benefit.

It is always safe to use plant based remedies in the beginning for a few years until you get a hod, then metals and then nosodes (made from excretes of disease). They are deeper in action in this order. Metals acts much deeper than plants; Nosodes are deeper than metals.

The medicine you choose should be a common non-toxic one, especially in the beginning of your learning years, try one dose and wait. Then repeat.

Post if you have question and the forum has many selfless experts who can guide.

You can do a diploma course (correspondence) to get some primer.

Practicing homeopathy is a difficult task. You need good books and a good guide. To get a good picture of medicines used in homeopathy you may consult 1. Materia Medica by James Tyler Kent. 2. Dictionary of Practical Materia Medica by J. H. Clarke.
You will need a good repertory. Kent's Repertory is very good.
A book on homeopathic philosophy will also be required. Kent's homeopathic philosophy will do.
For a beginner these should be sufficient.
Note : To work out a case you may need a week or two in the beginning. So do not be disappointed. Do not hurry. Do not deviate from the law " Like Cures Like" when you can't find the remedy.

you can start flipping pages online in homeoint website. Almost all the books are available there.

You can buy the hard copy for which you like to hold.

Wow - I had no idea that some could be considered too toxic to use.

Yes, at superficial level, Homeopathy is a safe medicine. It takes very close observation for decades and treating patients in the border line, to find more beyond books.
