atopic dermatitis - pls help

My daughter aged 16 years has been having atopic dermatitis since the age of 3 months. she was breast fed till around a year and had to be fed cows milk from 5 months of age since milk was not sufficient. around this time she started having asthma also. since then she has been tried on various medications allopathy as well as homeo and ayurvedic. each time a homeo med is tried she has a bad flare up of the rash. Now that she is 16yrs old she is very concerned about her looks and refuses to take any medications. hence she is now maintained on local applications of moisturisers, steroid cream and anti allergic tabs for itching and inhalers for asthma. Last tried was rhus tox 6C for 3 days and the rash flared up badly and she refused further doses.
She is a little moody, has disturbed sleep due to rash, irritable, does not listen to parents, likes to spend time with friends, makes friends easily, has normal bowels and periods. she studies well but does not excel and is under no stress to excel also.wheezing is specially exercise induced but occurs otherwise also mainly in the night. she is allergic to brinjal and dust. seasonal rhinitis is also present.

there is family history of asthma and atopy in the mother but it is mild and managed with no regular medications.

I have been hunting for a cure for all these years and have not succeeded since the aggravation is too much to handle. I earnestly request one of you to kindly help cure her of this malady. Is there something that can cure without aggravation?
If any further details are required I shall post the same. Thanks

Her dermatitis started at the age of 3 months and asthma started at the age of 5 months.

Please recall what medication was given to her at the age of 3 months to cure asthma?

Asthma aggravates mainly at night. When does her suffering due to dermatitis aggravate?

Does she sweat more than others? How does she feel during sweating at night?

Do her sufferings/itch increase during sweating as well?

Did you give steroid to her at the age of 3 months to cure asthma?

How did you try to cure her skin symptoms when she was 3 months old?

What kind of medication was going on, if any, between 3 months and 5 months?

Do you think asthma appeared when her skin symptoms started to be treated by some means?

How did you try to cure her skin symptoms when she was 3 months old?
it was only by steroid creams and moisturisers. homeo was tried after 6 months of age

What kind of medication was going on, if any, between 3 months and 5 months?
steroid creams and moisturisers.

Do you think asthma appeared when her skin symptoms started to be treated by some means?
yes

starzan 8 years ago
I can understand her skin symptoms were suppressed by steroids which was primarily the cause for asthma.

Now, if we try to treat her based on this etiology, her asthma will be cured only when her skin symptoms return temporarily. There will be a brief period when her skin rashes would aggravate. Considering this, we have to ensure that this return of suppressed symptom is as mild and brief as possible. Subsequently, her rashes will also get cured for good.

If she agrees to bare a brief period of aggravation / return of old symptom, I can suggest a remedy.

rishimba 8 years ago
Pls suggest a remedy which will have the least aggravation. Since she is 16yrs old she is very concerned about her skin and is willing to suffer the asthma. I do not have the details of past treatment, but each and every one tried has caused significant aggravation of her skin rash. Kindly let me know how bad an aggravation is expected and how long it can last. If the aggravation is too much can something be done to limit or reverse it? thanks

starzan 8 years ago
Pulsatilla is a mild remedy and covers this etiology. Your daughter's generals are also matching this remedy, so this should be her indicated remedy.

Other remedies may have produced an aggravation of skin symptoms but if they were the indicated remedies, she should have been cured after the aggravation. You don't need to take remedies everyday.

Now, considering her skin aggravations, let her start with PULSATILLA 12C three doses a day for three days only. After that she should wait and watch for a week.

In case changes are seen on the skin on the second or third day, she should not take the rest of the doses.

Let me know after 10 days.

One dose would be 3 drops in some 10 ml of water sipped up in clean mouth and empty stomach. Or dissolve 3 pellets in the same quantity of water and sip up slowly.

Don't give her any food or drinks one hour before or after.

Restrain from too much sweets, salt, mint, coffee, garlic and raw onion for a few days.

could you pls clarify if the changes you are specifying is aggravation or improvement in rash?

starzan 8 years ago
Either aggravation or improvement.

You should stop dosing in either of the two situations. Dosing will begin again once her symptoms stabilize. Based on the changes, we will either repeat the same potency again or raise potency.

If any response is called for, it will, with three days of dosing in this potency.

thanks. will convince her to take this and report back.

pulsatilla 12c is not available in shops near my place, they say 30c is available. can I give this? she is not willing to take homeo now due to recent aggravation. the aggravation is now coming down. is it possible to give a pill mixed in her water bottle without shaking so that she will not know? pls advice.

starzan 8 years ago
You can give her Pulsatilla 30C instead of 12C.

Yes, you can give 3 pills in her water bottle and it will dissolve by itself. She has to take it in empty stomach and clean mouth and not take any food or drinks one hour before or after.

But, I still feel, you should convince her that the aggravation, if at all, would be temporary and this will cure her of all her problems. Her life is going to change.

I have given 3 doses so far, the asthma seems worse, the skin rash has not worsened so far. shall I continue further doses? thanks

starzan 8 years ago
When did you give her the doses and when did you notice the change in asthmatic symptoms?

Did her asthma worsen just a couple of days after giving the doses?

We need to know if this is an aggravation due to dosing or her original symptoms before dosing further.

rishimba 8 years ago
I gave her pulsatilla 2 doses pills yesterday and last night her asthma was worse. skin rash is same or mildly better. she has taken one more dose in the morning today. awaiting your instructions. thanks

starzan 8 years ago
We will have to see what happens to her asthma. Does it reduce after aggravation or remains the same.

Stop any further doses.

rishimba 8 years ago
the worsening of asthma is mild and these fluctuations are seen in her case on and off. since it happened on the day we started pulsatilla 30, I wanted to bring to your notice. If the asthma is not worse in the evening, shall I continue with the doses for 3 days as you originally adviced?

starzan 8 years ago
Pulsatilla in 30C is unlikely to create any aggravation but because your daughter is more sensitive to potencies, I started with 30C.

If this mild aggravation cannot be related to the dosing, you can give her doses on Day 3 and then wait and watch for a week.

rishimba 8 years ago
I have given her pulsatilla 30 for 3 days. she is off montelukast and levocetrizine for last 2-3 days which she has been taking for long. I feel due to this her asthma and rash are marginally worse. More importantly she has severe itching at night now for the last 2 days not allowing her to sleep. Is there anything that can be done to reduce itching?

starzan 8 years ago
Yes, there are remedies that can reduce the itch but she has just taken Pulsatilla. Its better to see if this potency is creating a response in her.

Please stop any other medicines or sprays as we want her original symptoms during the treatment process.

Let me know after a few days. Based on her response to Pulsatilla, we will decide on subsequent action.

rishimba 8 years ago
can you pls suggest some medicine for itching so that I can keep handy. it is too much in the night and she gets very agitated.

starzan 8 years ago
You can buy MERC SOL 12C and use it if there is no response to Pulsatilla.

Since your daughter is very sensitive to potencies, you need to first give some 3 to 4 doses on a single day each dose 4 to 6 hours apart. Wait and watch for a week.

rishimba 8 years ago
I have not given merc sol. itching is present in the night and asthma is mild. I feel there has been no significant change after pulsatilla 30 and that the worsening is only due to stopping usual medications that she was taking. kindly suggest if I need to give her any other remedy now or should we wait? thanks
