cold and exzema

I have an 8 year old that has been fighting a cold off and on for several weeks. He's had some nasal congestion and a mild cough but most prominent with every cold he gets is that he gets a high fever. Today he has the fever, cheeks are red and his eyes are very glassy. Not much energy and he wants to sleep. Much worse throughout the night. He is a child with a lot of energy usually and normally doesn't need a lot of sleep.

I also have a 9 year old who is fighting the same cold but he has had the nasal congestion (almost allergy like), a cough and now we've noticed eczema across his knuckles on both hands. This child loves to sleep and is quite emotional. Has used Nat mur and molds in the past, given by a naturopath.

Any suggestions would be grateful.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I forgot to add that my 9 year old, the one with the eczema has had numerous nose bleeds recently as well,

Any suggestions???

I would recommend that he uses Arnica 30c in the water dose for his nose bleed which is made up as follows:

Get a 500ml bottle of spring water
Pour out 100ml
Put in 3 globules or 1 drop if you have the liquid remedy.
Hit the bottle hard on your palm or a cushion and watch for the water to fizzle like when you open a bottle of soda.
Sip a teaspoonful twice daily

Arnica 30c will also help to overcome your boy's Eczema which should show positive signs of improving in a week or less.

Post his response in a week from now.

Thank you, I will try that.

What about the 8 year old with the cold and fever. I gave acontinite (spelling?) last night and the fever broke by this morning. He said he felt better but his pattern is that it all changes in the evening

At this stage of a flu there is very little that Homeopathy can do.

He will have to ride it out and if, after he recovers fully you feel that he is prone to catching colds often, I can prescribe a remedy which helps to build up the body resistance. This remedy must however be used under careful supervision.

sound interesting, what is it?

He isn't really prone to catching colds but this year since September he has been fighting the same bug every month. Very unusual for both my children.

Our family as a whole is run down. We have a newborn and the challenges that come with a new baby are hard enough, but with the baby having reflux as well....it adds a whole new twist to the family environment.

Thank you for your help. I started the arnica tonight.

The remedy I have used is Bacillinum 200. This is a nosode and cannot be used indiscriminately.

It may only be used when the person is fully well and 4 globules are placed sublingually and left to dissolve. This same dose is repeated in 2 weeks after the first as a booster and the person will discover that the resistance to URT infections is far greater than before.

Please note that this remedy cannot be used on a daily basis as can many others.

I note that you mentioned that your baby has a reflux problem. This is quite normal in infants and a change of the formula can help.

If however in spite of changing it you still notice some problem please contact me on this forum and I can suggest a remedy to help.

The baby has been on breast milk for 5 months and was still refluxing quite badly. My milk production decreased significantly and we put him on a formula. We've found that he keeps the formula down a bit better as it is thicker than the breast milk, but he is still extremely difficult to feed and vomits a few times a day.

We are currently going to a chiropractor and someone else in the forum had recommended aethusa cynapium 30c. I got it the other day, started him on it but found immediately that he was worse. Very uncomfortable and vomited the entire day and didn't want to eat. I however am still contining it as the other Dr. felt it wasnt related to the aethusa. What do you think of this rememdy for reflux?

While we are on the subject of reflux I must tell you what the pediatrician wanted to do as of yesturday.

He gave me a prescription for Ranitidine (we've been on it and it's done NOTHING) but he felt continue. Also a script for metoclopramide. Which he proceded to tell me that if the baby started making involuntary movements to stop the meds. I looked at him like he was insane, but he was serious. He still wanted me to give our son these meds. After doing my own search of the side effects of both meds I could not believe what I found. The metoclopramide Changes the dompamine levels in the neurological system and yes you will develope involuntary muscle movements. Very similar to parkinsons disease. Several other symptoms that I was shocked of.

It always amazes me how most people would take these scripts and not even give it a second guess and give it to their children. Needless to say the script is in the garbage and my pediatrician will serve his purpose when absolutely necessary.........which is rarely.

I checked the above drug on Medline and this is what I discovered.

Metoclopramide (met-oh-kloe-PRA-mide) is a medicine that increases the movements or contractions of the stomach and intestines. When given by injection, it is used to help diagnose certain problems of the stomach and/or intestines. It is also used by injection to prevent the nausea and vomiting that may occur after treatment with anticancer medicines. Another medicine may be used with metoclopramide to prevent side effects that may occur when metoclopramide is used with anticancer medicines.

When taken by mouth, metoclopramide is used to treat the symptoms of a certain type of stomach problem called diabetic gastroparesis. It relieves symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, continued feeling of fullness after meals, and loss of appetite. Metoclopramide is also used, for a short time, to treat symptoms such as heartburn in patients who suffer esophageal injury from a backward flow of gastric acid into the esophagus.

I am indeed surprised that your doctor prescribed this powerful drug for a baby and it is possible that he does not have any experience in treating them as he may not be a paediatrician.
In any case he should never have prescribed these powerful drugs for an infant. This is quite common in the case of doctors to whom the patient is only another number and a source of income. He fails to understand that as a physician he has a duty by the baby and the parents who pay to cousult him to think of the consequences that can follow his prescribing a powerful drug which I do not think a baby should be given.

The remedy that I would like you to use is Nat Phos 6x (biochemic). This is in tablet form and has the same effect in promoting peristalysis in the gut which will help to keep the food down and prevent GERD.

You can safely give your baby 1 tablet after his feed dissolved in water or in milk.

Please report response after the first dose.

Thank you Joe, I will try it today. I appreciate your help

We have given our son the first dose of nat phos. I haven't noticed any change as of yet. What I did do though is gave him the nat phos just before I was going to feed him and he vomited twice during that feed. We had to put him down to settle and resumed feeding about a half hour later. I then fed him and gave him the Nat Phos after that feed.

Should I continue this process after each feed? He gets about 5-6 feeds a day.

gurly last decade
Please verify that you have got the Nat Phos 6x (biochemic) tablets. They will dissolve in a few seconds in water.

You might try giving one tablet dissolved in water 5 minutes before a feed and see how he responds.

I would not recommend that you give it to him 5 times which can be the adult dose for a day.

You can try giving him half tablet after you stabilize him with the full tablet.

Please report response daily or more often as I get an email alert when you do.

If you notice any negative signs, stop medication immediately.

Can you try changing your feeding bottle ?

It occurred to me that he may be sucking in air if you do not hold the bottle up to ensure that he does not suck in air which can in turn cause the vomiting.

Joe De Livera last decade
We've done that route already. The bottles that we are using are the Dr. Brown's system. This bottle has a tube and a liner for the rim of the bottle that is suppose to work together to extract all possible air. It's suppose to be excellent.

yes, I did get the Nat Phos 6x but the brand is hylands not biochemic. Does this make a difference?

We've just given him his last feed for the evening and he did his usual. Take an ounce, vomit and then we get him sleepy (by rocking) and when he's sleepy he takes the bottle. I guess he's too tired and too hungry to fight. Same applies with the first thing in the morning feed(approx. 5/6 am) He's sleepy and it usually goes ok. But the rest are a challenge.

gurly last decade
Check from Hylands if the Nat Phos 6x you have is the BIOCHEMIC. There are 2 versions one the biochemic and the other Homeopathic. It is in the manufacture that the two differ as the Biochemic is Triturated while the other is Potentized. They both act in different manners and one cannot be used in place of the other.

I can see that you have a problem on your hands and you will require some patience to overcome it.

Please follow my instructions and report progress.
