8 years old boy with enuresis - please suggest something to help him!

My elder boy, who is 8 years old wets his bed since birth. His condition is better in summer and worsen in winter. He is also very afraid of the darkness and doesn't sleep alone and it takes a lot to him to get asleep. He turns from side to side, like he can't find the right position to sleep. At school he has often problems with writing words and also reading. He is a very caring boy, compassionate, bat also gets very angry when arguing with his brothers, or when someone takes his personal things. Another fear of him is that a thief could break into our house, or he might ask if a tornado could happen in oar region, or a tsunami, or any disaster he might hear around. And as a recent thing I've noticed - I was very upset on my children, all of them, and during that period, he wet his bed every night until we solved our conflict.

For enuresis he got Puls ch200, with very slight improvement, and finally, it didn't worked at all. Another effect of Puls was that he got more weepy than usual. Another remedy that worked at first was stramonium (30 ch), but with no long lasting effect. He also got Causticum ch15. It worked at first very well, but afterwards it stopped, likeall other previous remedies. However, after Causticum he started to wet his bed early in the morning. Before Causticum, he used to wet his bed during the first sleep.

I forgot to mention that at 9 months old he got the diagnosis of vesico-urethral reflux, but at the age of 3 the doctor told us it was corrected.

Please suggest us something that could help him, because he is quiet upset on this situation.

Thank you.

Antivirus thank you for your interest and will to help. In order to make your work easier, I will answer your questions, maybe I missed something out last time I had answered, or something might had been changed.

1. Age,sex,weight,country.

8 years, 27 kg, Romania

2. Main complaints and other associated troubles.
a)Where is the trouble; The exact locality of the complaint like hands, legs etc; duration of trouble.

A: bed wetting

b)What exactly do child feels, Sensation as pain, how pain feels or burn etc, according to you.

A: no sensations, he is in deep sleep, impossible to be awakened.

c)What are the factors that causes this trouble according to you.

A: Fear of the dark, of monsters (something like spirits). He fears of being alone even if the light are all turned up all the house. Also the deep sleep, also it might be something genetic, because one of his parents had suffered from enuresis until 15 years. Also he had a vesico- urethral reflux.

d)Condition under which the complaint is reduced or child feels better like, cold or hot application, cold or hot weather, position as standing, walking, rest etc.

- during hot weather (in late spring or summer)

e)Condition under which the complaint is increased like, cold or hot application, cold or hot weather, position as standing, walking, rest etc.

- during late autumn or winter.

f)Any other complaint any where in the body.

- he sometimes soil his underwear just a little bit. It seems like he figures out that he has to go to the toilet only after a little amount of stool has already been evacuated.

g)Onset time of troubles in detail, i.e which came first, after that what problem and so on.

I didn't noticed that detail, because he has never been dry, but I was thinking lately about an event: when he was almost 3 years old I had to leave home during nighttime, while he was asleep and leave him for 2 days. He suffered a lot because of this separation.
h)Treatment method adopted and its result.
ANS.

3. History of diseases in family.

- his grandmother died of a malign disease.
- his grandfather died of Guillaume-barre syndrome.
- another grandfather is suffering from alcoholism
- his mother had enuresis until she was 15 years old

4. Personal History.
a)About childhood.

I don't know what to write about this. He is a good boy. :)

b)Academic performance.
- reading seems very difficult to him. But he is doing very well in maths.

c)Any major incidents in life and the effect of it on life.

I have described before the episode of being left without his mother next to him during night for several days.
He didn't want to go to the nursery after that, saying that he is afraid of loosing his mother. Also he was very hysterical each time a new baby was borne in our family.

d)How is child satisfied with friends, family members, etc.

- he is very jealous on his brothers (he's got 2). He always thinks he gets less then they get. But he takes very often a lot of care about them.
- he is very emotionally attached to his mother and would do anything to see her happy.

- he likes to make new friends, but he complaints that boys are not playing with him. I believe he much too emotive and shows this to them and this is why he does not get boys friends. But he has girl friends.

6. How is child's Appetite and Thirst.

- he has a very good appetite, eats almost an adult amount of food. Thirst is ok.

7. Likes and Dislikes.
a)Alcohol Bread Butter Bitter Salt Sweet Sour Fats Milk Mud Chalk Egg Spicy food Meat Fish Fruits Fried Food
Warm food-drink Cold food-drink Ice Ice cream Chocolates Tea Coffee.

fish fruits, fried food, ice-cream, chocolate.

b)Anything else about like and dislike of any activity with child or surrounding.

He likes to climb, skate, cycling, playing basketball, running, jumping - everything related to speed or hight. There seems that when referring to play, there's nothing that he wouldn't like or could scare him.

8. Bowel movements.
a)Nature of stool, frequency, satisfactory or not.

- satisfactory

b)Any discomforts associated with stool.

- I have described earlier that he soils his underwear quite often, and only just a little bit.

9. Urine.
a)Frequency, nature, volume.

- normal.

b)Any discomfort before, during or after urination/odour

- no disconfort

12. Sleep.
a)The quality of sleep, the quietness or restlessness of sleep,
position of sleep, times of waking and reasons for waking,
need for cover over various parts of the body,
whether the window must be open or closed etc.
common dreams, peculiar sounds or gestures during sleep, etc.

deep sleep, no waking, sleeps covered, fetus position usually, dislikes hot rooms, likes when the window is opened. When having nightmares his dreams are very often related to eyes. Those eyes scare him. Once he described me that he dreamed of a pocket that had a big eye, and wanted to put him in the pocket.

13. Sweat
a)How much, what parts, staining, Odour.

- he doesn't usually sweat.

14. Weather
a)Tolerance to heat and cold, dryness, humidity, weather changes, sun,
foggy weather, wind drafts, closed rooms, etc.

he doesn't like when it's too hot, or to cold. And he gets very agitated when he can't go out to play.

15. Mental Status
a) Were there any complications at birth?

- no, but the delivery was difficult (about 18 hours) and his Apgar score was 7/8

b)At what age did the child: crawl, walk, talk, teethe, toilet train ?

crawl - 5 months, walk -10 months, talk - 3 years, teething started at 7 months, toilet training began at aprox. 2 years and 3-4 months. I tried it earlier, but it just didn't work. However, event at that age, it was a difficult process that lasted a long. Even now it seems that he sometimes doesn't feel which is the exact moment to go to the toilet, in order no to make it on its pants. And if we are in the car and cannot stop when he says he needs to go to the bathroom, there are 90% chances that he couldn't wait.

c)How did the child react to the following situations: vaccinations, birth of younger sibling, starting day care, starting school, spending night with a friend, going away to camp, traveling with the family

- slight fever after vaccinations, very stressed and hysterical each time a new sibling is borne, he went to kinder-garden when turning 3, but I've described earlier the episode of his mother leaving him and after that, he didn't go, saying he was afraid of loosing her. He accepted to go to the kinder-garden when he was 5 and he was very well at that moment.

- he likes going to school.
he didn't sleep over at his friend and didn't go to a camp, due to enuresis, but he wants that things very much.

d)Did the child have an especially severe childhood illness--measles, mumps, croup, etc.?

-no. But he was vaccinated.

e)When ill or upset does the child want to cling or be left alone, or something else altogether?

- he wants to cling, stay in his mothers arms, to feel that he is loved.

f)How would you describe the child's behavior when playing with other children?
-playful, but quite emotional and fearful if a child wants to hurt him. He is never aggressive.

g)What feedback do you get from the child's teachers?

that he is a very good boy.

h)How does your child treat animals?

- with kindness and love.

i)What fears does your child have?

- of natural disasters, of darkness, of death.

j)How affectionate is the child when not sick?

very affectionate. He is very affectionate nature.

k)How sympathetic is the child (concerned with the suffering of others)?

very sympathetic.

l)How is the child affected by games, studying, music and dancing?

he loves playing games, he dislikes to read and is not very good at reading, he likes math, he loves to play the flute and dancing.

m)Is the child fastidious? Please explain.

-
n)Is the child sensitive to criticism? Please explain.

- yes, he is also very auto-critical. he very often say he is stupid about himself when making mistakes.

o)Describe the child's eating habits, for example: picks at his food, or eats voraciously, or is full after 2 bites, or can't sit still to eat, or must be fed or he won't calm down, and so on.

he eats a lot, sitting at the table, talks a lot during mealtime.
`
p)Are there any digestive complaints--waking with stomach pains, or a lot of gas and bloating or burping, or constipation, etc.?

No

q)How cooperative is the child?

very cooperative.

r)What does the child really love to do?

play

antivirus - I started the treatment yesterday for my boy and today he had a fight with his brothers, after which his brothers left him alone in the room and he started to cry and scream that he wanted to die. I went to calm him and asked him why he said he wanted to die. Was that for the show, did he intend to make me feel sorry for him? And he said that he didn't know why he said so, but he really felt it. I don't know what to think about this. Could it be related to a remedy?

CristinaGoji 8 years ago
no do not worry, sometimes children do this and i understand how this feels to parents, its not due remedies,

how is current condition of child sleep and bed wetting

0antivirus0 8 years ago
He sleeps well and has told me that he hasn't had any nightmares lately. Related to bed wetting - 4 days ago he had 2 "wet" nights on a row, and since then, he is dry. But I try not to be too excited, because he usually gets better in the spring-summer period and we've had already been passed through big hopes that it would stop and it hasn't.

Thank you very much for your quick answer!

CristinaGoji 8 years ago
He is getting worse. yesterday he wet his bed, after only 4 nights when he was dry, and last night he wet his bed twice, which didn't happened for a long time.
