Merc. ( Mercurius )

Merc. sol.
Mercurius solubilis hahnemanni
Quicksilver / Mercury
Mercury was known to the ancient Chinese and Hindus and was found in an Egyptian tomb of 1500 BC. Although it is toxi, in the past mercury was given for syphilis and to promote bodily secretions. Today, it is used in thermometers and batteries. Symptoms of mercury poisoning include profuse salivation and vomiting. Illnesses characterized by excessive, strong-smelling secretions are helped by Merc. sol.

Uses
Merc. sol. is effective for a wide range of conditions that are accompanied by profuse, burning, strong-smelling secretions, and an associated sensitivity to heat and cold. It is used to treat mouth and throat complaints with a thirst for cold drinks. These include: excessive salivation; oral thrush; gingivitis (inflamed gums); bad breath (halitosis); tonsillitis; loose teeth in infected gums; a swollen, dark, red throat; and painful throat ulcers.

Other conditions helped by this remedy are: spasmodic coughs; neuralgic pain; fever with drenching, oily, offensive-smelling sweat that chills the skin as it evaporates or aggravates other symptoms; swollen glands; a congestive, vice like headache; aching joints; and earache with a smelly discharge.

Merc.. sol. is good for eye complaints, for example, chronic conjunctivitis where the eyelids are red, swollen, and stuck together, or stinging, watery, aching eyes.

Nasal problems due to a cold or allergy, for example, watery, burning mucus, sneezing that makes the nose feel raw, or a burning nasal discharge, all respond well to Merc. sol.

This remedy also acts on the skin and is good for conditions such as encrusted lesions on the scalp with a smelly discharge, pus-filled eruptions or blisters on the skin, and open sores or ulcers that sting and itch.
