nux moschata potency

I take nux moschata 10M for an intense food reaction. I used to see a homeopath who gave it to me for a chronic condition since I didn't know it was a food reaction at that time. The potency seems right but can I take low doses when my symptoms are triggered? If so, how often can I do this? If I have to try a lower potency then what would you recommend?
Thanks.

1. Describe your main suffering?
Reaction to corn, which is hard to avoid.
First I feel really energetic, wired, jumpy, my head, jaw, neck, shoulders tense up, I have trouble sleeping and wake easily. It's like I drank caffeine.
Then a couple of days later I have debilitating fatigue.

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body?
All my joints tense up on the right side of my body.

3. What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings?

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst?
Too weak to hold up my head. Can't focus or think.

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease?
Yes, too much orthotricyclene for a disease.

6. Which time of the day you are worst?

7. What are the things which aggravate your suffering and which are those which ameliorate the same?

8. Do your think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)?
no

9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather?
warm and dry

It's hard for me to answer the rest of these questions since I don't usually have symptoms anymore.

You won't be able to manage your own case on the basis of what a homoeopath did for you in the past. People change over time, the remedies they need change. As Zady quite rightly has said, 10M is a very dangerous potency to use unsupervised. Generally speaking using any medicine unsupervised is very risky.

A full case really need to be taken so that a remedy can be prescribed with confidence based on what is currently happening for you.

Sure but nux moschata still works and it is the only thing that has every worked. I'd like to be able to take it as needed.

It does seem like the remedy is not actually working the way it is meant to be though. You should not need to keep taking 10M. It should cure you. Few of my patients prescribed a 10M needed to keep using it. It cured their illness which never returned. At the very least, it was often years between doses, and that was only because something else in their life degraded their health (so from the outside). In most cases however they did not return to that remedy/state, but needed something simpler to put them back in balance.

If yours keeps returning, then it is not being cured. Any disease not being cured is being palliated or suppressed. It may be because the remedy, while suiting the symptoms, is not treating the underlying Miasm (the real source of chronic disease for any patient). Remedies that do not cure the miasm, often need to be repeated more often. If the miasm is not cured, the disease will eventually transform into a new shape, or move into a new stage, which requires a different remedy (and can be more serious).

Homoeopathy is about genuine cure, not management. Just managing the illness as it comes up is not the best way to use homoeopathy. In fact in the end it can have a negative effect, as the underlying disease has continued to evolve while the surface symptoms are being managed.

I am not saying this has definitely happened, only that without proper assessment, you cannot know what you are actually doing by reusing an old prescription. Patients change under the action of the medicines, and that change becomes part of the process for choosing ongoing prescriptions.

If classical homeopathy does not recognize food intolerances, and how the problems that cause intolerances to develop are also exacerbated by eating foods you are intolerant to, then I don't think I will find the right remedy there. On the other hand, I'd rather not be on my own playing around with different potencies and doses of nux moschata. I absolutely have to treat the SYMPTOMS of this food reaction so I'm functional, and so I don't develop worse problems.

Hi Macey,

Another way to go here, is to go to an Allergy Dr. and get allergy shots,
where they skin test you for all allergies and then give you tiny diluted
shots of the allergen/allergens. Usually you go twice a week for a few weeks, then
once a week and then less-It can take a few weeks to start seeing a difference.

This method has been used for over 100 years now-it does work for
a lot of people.

Another question: How long ago did you take that antibiotic? Have you taken
a course of probiotics since then? ( you usually have to do this for 2 months to
3 months to get the gut flora working correctly again.) And have you had
other antibiotics since that time?

I never said homoeopathy doesn't recognize food intolerances, but we don't manage them we cure them. We certainly look at the whole picture, the history, to understand how the person got to the stage they are at. I have cured many cases of food allergies, even serious ones like Crohn's Disease. If a person continues to aggravate on foods that are not naturally aggravating, then you have not yet cured that person. This is a sign to look at changing treatment in some way. Avoiding the foods does not help a person in the long run, and in my experience it actually makes the sensitivity worse over time.

While homoeopathy uses the symptoms for prescribing, we are not treating the symptoms but the cause of the problem. The underlying cause of the sensitivity must be addressed, and then you can eat whatever you want (within reason of course).
