The ABC Homeopathy Forum

I have excess mucus in the throat that causes me to hawk and cough and gets in the way of talking at times. This began in Spring 2010.

What other physical sufferings do you have in your body?
- I have had Peyronie's Disease, a chronic connective tissue disorder of the penis, for the past 6 years. Of all the ailments I have had, this has affected me most physically and mentally.

3. What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings?
- All my mental sufferings have come from Peyronie's Disease rather than the problem with mucus. I saw a therapist for 1.5 years for depression related to the Peyronie's Disease.
- As far as the throat problem goes, it mostly is a nuisance and causes embarrassment when I have noticeable trouble speaking because of excess mucus and must hawk and spit around other people.

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst?
- I feel the need to hawk mucus because I can feel it at the back of my throat. Otherwise I may cough some up and then need to spit it out.

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease?
- This all started one day when I returned from eating dinner one night in the Spring of 2010, I developed a slightly severe cough with a fever and it included me coughing up mucus. While the severity of it subsided, the problem with coughing up/hawking mucus has persisted. I was not suffering from any related illness at the time.

6. Which time of the day you are worst?
- This problem happens at all times of the day, but I have noticed it seems to flare up after I eat.

7. What are the things which aggravate your suffering and which are those which ameliorate the same?
- As mentioned before, it seems to get worse immediately after eating. I have not found anything that has successfully made the problem subside.

8. Do you think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)?
- No

9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather?
- As far as the mucus problem is concerned, I don't think it makes a difference as I haven't noticed any seasonal differences. I personally prefer milder cold weather.

10. Describe your general mental set up? Are you Moody, Arrogant, Mild, Agreeable Changeable, Nervous, Suspicious, Easily offended, Quiet, Arguing, Irritating, Lazy etc.
- I think others would describe me as cynical, agreeable, and happy/humorous. I like to debate/discuss with people, however am reserved when first meeting people. I would also say I am tired more than normal.

- Do you like being consoled during your tough times?
-- Yes, I like my feelings to be acknowledged.

- Are you sensitive to external stimuli like smell, noise, light etc?
-- I am sensitive to noise because I have chronic tinnitus (since being exposed to very loud music on October 27, 2012).

- Do you have any typical habit or gesture like nail biting, causeless weeping, talking to one self etc?
-- No

- How do you feel about your friends, family, your children and especially your husband / wife?
-- I have good relationships with all my family members and friends.

- How do you feel before or during a thunderstorm?
-- Mostly calm and anticipatory. I enjoy the smell of rain.

- Do you have any stress? What are your fears? Explain in details.
-- The most dominant stressor in my life (that are unrelated to health) is figuring out a career and further education path for myself. I fear that I may not be able to find a job that can support me financially and that is related to my interests.

- Do you get normal sound sleep?
-- When I have the time to get a full night of rest, I have no problem sleeping through the night without disturbances. I have been told, however, that I snore very loudly.

11. What type of dreams you get ? Do you get dreams of any situation repeatedly?
- My dreams are mostly random or based on the events on the past day or so. Every so often I will dream of things related to upcoming events. I have no recurring dreams except one recurring nightmare that I used to experience when becoming ill (I no longer have this dream).

12. What do you crave for in food items and what are your aversions?
- I crave savory foods. I like to eat meats, breads, and dairy products. There are no foods to which I am averse.

13. How is your thirst: Less, Normal or Excessive?
- Normal

14. How is your hunger: Less, Normal or Excessive?
- Normal (I am able to eat a lot of food throughout the day as I have a fast metabolism)

15. Is there any kind of food which your body can’t stand?
- No

16. Is your sweat normal or less or more? Where does it sweat more: Head, Trunk or Limbs?
- Normal. I would say my limbs sweat more than the other options.

17. How is your bowel movement and stool type?
- It varies. I would say normal.

18. How well do you sleep? Do you have a particular posture of sleeping?
- I sleep soundly through the night (and as mentioned, I snore very loudly). I usually sleep in the fetal position.

19. Do you think you are able to satisfy your sexual desires in general?
- The Peyronie's Disease, as mentioned before, greatly hinders certain sexual activity and creates a lot of stress and frustration around sex. So while I am able to to satisfy my sexual desires in a general sense, it weighs heavily on my mind that I am not able to do certain things I would like to do and would be able to do had I not acquired this disease.

20. How do you think you are different from others, if at all?
- I have been pointed out for being different in many ways throughout the course of my life. Mostly for traits like personality or being very tall and lean. I don't feel too different from others.

21. Specify the medicines that have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication?
- I have not experienced any adverse side-effects of medications, but have also not taken any for the mucus problem. I have taken (sporadically and without any set plan) a variety of other medications and herbal supplements for my other condition and had no side effects.

22. What major diseases are running / ran in your family?
- Hypothyroidism runs in both sides of my family.

23. Describe, how do you look like? Describe your overall appearance ?
- I am 6'3' (1.9 meters) and around 170 pounds (~ 77 kg), very lean, pale skin with freckles, black/dark brown hair, green eyes.

1. Age of the patient & sex.
23 years old, Male

2. Describe your appearance i.e. weight, height, body type (thin, medium, chubby, fat etc).
• Weight: ~77 kgs
• Height: 1.9 meters
• Body type (Thin, Fat, Medium): Thin (I am very lean. People comment on how thin I am.)
• Any significant feature (e.g. sunken cheeks, stooped shoulders, thin chest etc.): Other than being very tall and thin, there is not much significant about my appearance.

3. Your profession.
I work in a nonprofit organization doing community organizing and neighborhood stabilization work. I have done so for the past four months. Previously I was an undergraduate student for four years.

4. Describe your personality in at least 20 words (e.g. stubborn, lazy, suicidal, don’t want to work, always in a hurry etc.).
Cynical, sarcastic, humorous, driven to learn, tired, happy, punctual, kind, inquisitive, thoughtful, indecisive, talkative, stressed, critical, talkative yet reserved with new people, idealistic, politically progressive, spiritual, unfocused, self-conscious.

5. If money was not an issue and you had a month of vacation, what would you do?
I would travel to the Arab World in order to continue learning and improving my Arabic language skills.

6. Do you smoke/drink/drugs? If yes, details.
I drink occasionally on weekends and 2-3 drinks per sitting. I do not smoke or do drugs.

7. What is your main health problem & its symptoms?
I first contacted a homeopathic specialist in order to resolve an issue with excess phlegm in my throat which causes me to constantly clear my throat and hawk up mucus.

8. When did this main problem begin?
This began in the Spring of 2010 as a severe cough and has persisted although the severity of the cough has greatly subsided, the problem with the phlegm has not gone away.

9. Can you relate any event which caused this problem?
The day that I developed the cough it was immediately following dinner where I ate ice cream -- something I had given up for the Catholic fasting period known as Lent (although I am not religious and would not consider myself to be a Roman Catholic at that time or currently, I was participating in Lent for the purposes of trying to eat healthier as I was eating many sweets at the time). I went back to my room and began having a very strong cough where I was producing/hawking mucus. This sort of lasting persistent hawking of mucus is something I had not experienced prior to this incident.

10. What makes the main problem better (e.g. massage, pressure, warmth, cold, lying down, sitting etc.)?
I once had a turmeric, pepper, and milk drink which seemed to alleviate the symptoms for a few hours, but when I attempted to recreate the situation it did not work.

11. What makes it worse (e.g. massage, pressure, warmth, cold, lying down, sitting etc.)?
While the problem is throughout the day, it seems to get worse after eating.

12. How do you feel mentally & emotionally during this problem (e.g. weepy, irritable, restless, sad, hopeless, fear of death etc.)?
I am fine with this problem emotionally. It is just slightly embarrassing to be constantly clearing my throat and/or hawking and spitting mucus.

13. What other health problems do you have.?
Peyronie's Disease (I will explain what it is below, but this condition has caused me the most physical and mental distress)
Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
Snoring (very loud snoring)

14. List down all problems and when did they start (approximate month & year)?
Peyronie's Disease: This is a condition where the connective tissue of the penis has a build up of scar tissue/plaque and makes erection difficult and also causes shortening of the penis. Symptoms of this conditions began in late 2007 or early 2008 and manifested itself as an ache in the groin. Over the span of 4-5 years the scar tissue/plaque went from one small location on the penis and spread to what seems to be the entirety of the connective tissue inside the penis. It is still present currently, although it seems to have stopped changing/spreading for the time being. I believe this condition was caused by exerting too much pressure (i.e. squeezing) on the penis during masturbation. Also something that should be mentioned is that this condition caused me to become very depressed and I voluntarily began seeing a therapist for a period of 1.5 years in order to cope with the mental side effects of this disease.
Tinnitus: The ringing in my ears began October 27, 2012 after being exposed to very loud music at a nightclub. I sustained a small amount of hearing loss and the ringing in my ears has not gone away.
Snoring: I have always snored loudly, as do both of my parents.

15. What makes these other health problems better (explain each problem)?
At a certain point I was taking Acetyl-L-Carnitine in hopes that it would help the Peyronie's disease. I thought I had seen some stabilization of the scar tissue/plaque spread, but it continued to progress over time. Other than that, I have tried many herbs, supplements, and medicines for Peyronie's disease, none of which have seemed to work (this might also be due to the fact that I did not have a set regimen or plan for the use of these supplements.)
I have found no way to treat tinnitus or snoring either.

16. What makes these other health problems worse (explain each problem)?
The Peyronie's Disease progressed and became worse on its own.
Being around loud noise makes the tinnitus worse.
The snoring seems to always be loud.

17. What animals or insects are you afraid of?
I would say I'm only afraid or startled by things like spiders and centipedes.

18. What situations are you afraid of (e.g. heights, closed spaces, ocean, darkness etc)?
I have a fear of tight/closed spaces.

19. What occupies your mind mostly?
I am most often occupied by thoughts of what to do educationally and for a career path.

20. How do you respond to consolation & sympathy?
I appreciate consolation and sympathy as I like to have my feelings legitimated.

21. Do you want to stay alone or with people?
I am a social person, so I enjoy spending time with small groups of friends and family. However, I need to be alone after spending a lot of time with people in order to relax and 'get away.'

22. How is your sleep?
I try to get adequate sleep (~7-8 hours per night). I am usually able to do so and most often I sleep soundly through the night.

23. Do you have any recurring dreams?
The only recurring dream I had is a nightmare that would appear the night before I would wake up ill (vomiting). The nightmare was related to time slowing down and speeding up.

24. Is your complaint affected by weather? If so, which weather affect & how.
The weather does not seem to affect my condition.

25. Do you normally feel hot or cold?
I don't feel more hot or cold. I think it depends on the weather and atmosphere of the room I'm in. I would rather be cold, as being hot makes me very uncomfortable and irritated.

26. What foods you crave & love (not what you eat due to health or other reasons, rather what you love).
I crave savory foods like meats, breads, and dairy products.

27. What foods you hate a lot.
I don't have a strong aversion to any foods. There are some foods with tastes I don't enjoy and I avoid (for example, horseradish), but in general I am very open to all types of food.

28. What taste you love a lot (e.g. sweet, salty, sour, bitter)
I enjoy salty and savory tastes.

29. What taste you hate
As stated before, I have no strong aversion to any foods or tastes.

30. Do you like warm or cold food?
If I had to choose between the two, I would say I enjoy cold food.

31. Do you want to eat indigestible foods (chalk, lead pencil, mud….)?
I do not feel cravings or a desire to eat such things.

32. How is your thirst (less, moderate, excessive)?
I would say my thirst is a normal level.

33. Do you have dry lips or mouth or both
My lips are often dry.

34. Do you have any coating on tongue first thing in the morning? If yes, details.
• Is coating thick? The coating is thin, but noticeable.
• Color of coating? It is a faint white to yellow color.
• Where exactly? On the back of the tongue.

35. Any taste in your mouth first thing in the morning (e.g. bitter, sour)
When I wake up I always have a bad taste in my mouth. I cannot describe the taste, but it is a bad taste and I also have bad breath when waking up.

36. How is your skin (dry, oily, rough, acne, pustules, boils, psoriasis etc), send me a picture of the skin problem
I would say my skin is somewhere in between dry and normal. Of course, some areas like the nose and forehead are more oily, but in general on my body it is between dry and normal.

37. Please upload here or email me a close up picture of your hand nails (without nail polish or any treatment done). Click my username for my email address.
[Attached]

38. Details about your sweat (where mostly, how much, smell, does it stain, color)
When I sweat it is mostly under the arms. It stains very much/easily (I can tell as I have shirts with stains under the arms). It is usually enough to go through the shirt at least a small amount. When exercising, my face tends to sweat a lot, however when I work out I am sweating everywhere. The sweat under my arms smells the typical foul smell of body odor. I have not noticed a smell for sweat coming from other parts of the body.

39. Any problems with eyes/vision? If yes, since when?
I was diagnosed with myopia (near-sightedness, meaning I can only see things that are near my face) when I was 10 (in the year 2001). I have worn glasses/contacts since then (so for a total of 13 years). My vision has gotten progressively worse since then, but seems to be leveling off.

40. Any problems with ears, nose, throat (e.g. nose always blocked, runny, discharge color)?
As mentioned in the beginning, I have a problem with excess mucus in my throat. I do not have any chronic problems with the ears or nose.

41. How is your stool (details of how often, consistency, any blood, any particular smell etc.)
I usually have a bowel movement twice or three times per day. It doesn't seem to be regular other than having to fairly soon after eating lunch. It is usually a normal consistency and is pretty regular. Nothing seems unusual.

42. How is your urine (details of color, smell, any blood etc.)?
My urine is usually yellow and has a medium-strong smell.

43. How is your sex desire (e.g. no desire, low, moderate, high, very high)?
My sex desire is moderate, but was greatly affected by the Peyronie's Disease.

44. Are you satisfied with your sex life? If no, why not?
I am satisfied with what I've been able to do and am able to be sexually active in a way. However, given the fact that Peyronie's Disease has had some drastic physical and mental effects, I am not satisfied in terms of what I'm able to do sexually. I feel that Peyronie's Disease has limited my ability and that causes frustration and stress when it comes to sex.

45. How do you feel about masturbation?
I feel that masturbation is a normal and healthy human activity. I don't masturbate very much, perhaps 3 times per week or so.

46. Males genitals (any problems with erection, any pain, any itching etc.)
Peyronie's Disease causes a lot of pain in the penis in general, so having an erection used to make it worse. The pain has subsided substantially, but occasionally it will ache a bit.

47. Females menses details (reply to all these points) -
• Regularity (early, late, irregular, duration of cycle) -
• Flow (low, moderate, high) -
• Clots (none, some, a lot, huge clots, bright color, dark color) -
• Any discharge (color, consistency, smell) -

48. What illnesses are running in your family?
• Mother’s side: Hypothyroidism (Grandmother, Aunt, Mother)
• Father’s side: Hypothyroidism (Grandmother, Aunt, Mother), Alcoholism (Grandfather, Father, and I'm not specifically aware of others)
• Siblings (brother/sister): Hypothyroidism (Sister who was born without a thyroid gland)

49. Are you taking any medicines (allopathic, homeopathic, supplements, acupuncture etc.)?
I am not taking any medicines or supplements as of now.

50. Have you had any surgeries or implants? If yes, give details.
The only surgery I have had is to remove a cyst that was growing in the skin tissue of my lower leg when I was about 16 or 17 (around 2007-2008). It was a small benign cyst and was a simple surgery.

51. Have you had any long term treatment (physical or psychological)? If yes, give details (what, when, where, why, the list of medicines used).
I had long-term treatment for asthma as a baby/small child and that was treated with albuterol sulfate given through a nebulizer machine. That probably went on for a few years during my childhood. I no longer have asthma.
As mentioned previously, I was treated by a psychologist for 1.5 years for the depression I was suffering as a result of the physical problems Peyronie's Disease was causing in my penis.

52. What homeopathic remedies have you taken in the past (potency, dosage, approx. time frame)?
I have never used homeopathic remedies.

While I appreciate your gesture for your friend, more often than not, this approach doesn't work as unless the patient directly responds we don't get the full symptom picture because sometimes the patient withholds information due to not feeling comfortable disclosing it to friends or family.

If you confident that nothing has been withheld I will prescribe.

Dear sir,
Thx a lot for your response. As regards revealing the exact picture, the guy (Patient) is open with me and shares everything more than his father. I am sure he will disclose everything that is needed for our examination. I have already uploaded the picture to your mail since it is not accepting here due to it's size. Will furnish the additional information in a day.

Thank you very much sir. I greatly appreciate the time you're taking for this. Yesterday I have uploaded the picture. Here's the further information on additional questions sought by you:

1) What type of pain do you have in penis e.g. dull, throbbing, shooting, tearing etc. ?
The pain in the penis used to be a constant dull ache (it was most noticeable while sitting in classes, and it was difficult to bear for hours on end without constantly moving around in my desk). When I would get an erection, the pain would be there as well, but perhaps a bit more bothersome. Now I have no constant pain. I would say the vast majority of the time there is no pain anymore. If it hurts at all, it is a brief ache, but nothing more.

2) As a result of Peyronie's what does the penis look like, give exact details ?
Forgive me if it's more graphic than you asked, but I have attached a sketch (uploaded 2nd picture) to illustrate the sort of changes that happened as a result of Peyronie's disease since this disease is usually very difficult for people to understand when I try to explain. Basically, the first picture shows you the penis before Peyronie's disease (around the year 2008), followed the second sketch showing where the scar tissue/plaque began. You can tell where it is because of the indentations/bend on the penis. I have highlighted these areas in pink. Please note, there are no signs visible on the skin of the penis -- the only time it is noticeable, then, is during an erection (therefore, these sketches illustrate the penis during erection). This is because Peyronie's disease affects the connective tissue (tunica albuginea) which is an underlying layer of the penis [if you are not familiar, please see this medical illustration to understand where the tunica albuginea lies within the penis -- this is where the scar tissue/plaque forms. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunica_albuginea_%28penis%29 ]. So you cannot see the plaque/scar tissue, but you can feel it under the skin. It normally stretches to allow erection, but in Peyronie's disease it prevents such inflation so a bend is formed where the scar tissue/plaque is. In the sketches that follow, you can see where the plaque spread to. As it spread, a bend or indent would form in those places. In the final sketch, illustrating the penis as it is today, the scar tissue/plaque is mostly all-encompassing on the underlying tunica albuginea, albeit in differing levels of thickness from what I can tell. For example, the right side of the penis seems to have a less thick accumulation of scar tissue/plaque than the left side which now has a slight bend. I am also not sure what sort of condition the tunica albuginea is inside the body where the penis is not outwardly visible (the perineum area, etc.), but I assume it is also greatly affected given the extreme loss of length and girth (if you cannot read the scale, the beginning length was ~17 cm and the current length is ~11 cm.)

3) Regarding Tinnitus, explain the noise you hear e.g. buzzing, ringing etc.
The tinnitus is a constant ringing sound of a few different pitches in both my left and right ears (louder in my left ear, as that was the ear facing the loud speaker the night I sustained the hearing damage). The pitch of the ringing that is in my left ear is higher than the right ear. There is also a quieter background of what I would describe as white noise or buzzing as well.

4) Have you ever gotten yourself checked by ENT specialist for snoring, the reason?
I have been checked by an ENT specialist only for the tinnitus and other short problems that have arisen in the past (i.e. I occasionally had ear/nose/throat infections as a child). I have always just assumed that my snoring is hereditary as both my mother and father snore very loudly.

Rayalakumar last decade
I am aware of Peyronie's disease. I have not received the pictures, it would be better if you email me a few pictures of your penis flaccid and after erection. Don't worry its not graphic.

Regarding Tinnitus, please confirm its ringing and nothing else e.g. hissing.

If snoring is due to DNS, then it may require a simple & small surgery, that's why I asked for ENT opinion. People overlook it but it is a serious issue that affects your health in very serious ways.

Regarding the tinnitus, The patient is quite certain that the sound would be described as ringing.

Also, while no ENT doctor has ever mentioned it, he says his nose is slightly crooked to the left. However, he never mentioned about snoring to them either.

The pictures obtained from the patient are attached, as requested.

Thanks,
Rayalakumar

We have to get the complete picture of ailments.

Who diagnosed Peyronie's as the picture doesn't show evidence e.g. crooked or bent or maybe its so less that it has not caused any deformation.

I will review the case and revert shortly.

Your remedy is: Calcarea Carbonica 200c.

HOW TO TAKE THE REMEDY:
Please take two doses 12 hrs apart. Just two doses. Not daily.
Report back in 7 days with changes observed.

TIME OF DOSE:
First dose: At night before sleeping.
Second dose: 12 hrs after the first dose.
Don’t take any more dose or any other remedy unless I tell you.

PILLS/PELLETS:
If your remedy is in the form of pills:
One dose is one pill.
Dissolve the pill in mouth.

LIQUID REMEDY:
If your remedy is in liquid form:
Put one drop of the remedy in half glass of water, stir and take one tea spoon from it.
That’s one dose.
Use the same mixture for subsequent doses, if required.
Don’t refrigerate the mixture. Put it anywhere covered, away from direct sunlight.

PRECAUTIONS:
If there is significant worsening of symptoms (called homeopathic aggravation) after the first dose, then don’t take the second dose.
Don’t take any other homeopathic remedy during this treatment.
Give a break of at least 10 minutes before eating/drinking anything before or after taking the remedy.
During the treatment, don’t eat anything which you have never had all your life.

HOW TO GIVE FEEDBACK:
A good example of how to report your progress is by giving %age improvement for all your health problems e.g.
Headache: 30% better
Low energy level: 50% better
Anxiety: 40% better
Sadness: No change
Depression: Worse
And so on list all your complaints.

GENERAL INFO ABOUT HOMEOPATHIC PRESCRIBING:
If someone is giving several remedies, without waiting to see the effect of one remedy, then it is totally against the core principles of homeopathy. Such an approach is unlikely to give permanent cure, rather it may distort actual symptoms making subsequent cure even more difficult.

DIETARY GUIDELINES:
Homeopathy is not magic and it can only work when all other supportive strategies are also used. To make sure you are cured as fast as possible and stay that way please change your lifestyle to include the following:

1. Start eating half cup of low fat, plain, non-flavored yogurt with live cultures daily in the morning or with lunch. If you have homemade yogurt that’s the best.
2. Stop all processed foods e.g. white bread, white rice, white burgers etc.
3. Eat whole foods only i.e. whole grain bread, brown rice, brown burgers etc.
4. The bread should be high in bran content & the flour should be coarse ground.
5. Start eating a small bowl of salad at least once a day e.g. it should contain cucumber, carrots, salad leaves, tomato and any vegetable you like. Put a dressing of olive oil & raw apple cider vinegar and put some salt & black pepper to your liking.
6. Eat at least 1-2 fruits per day e.g. apple, orange etc.
7. Drink enough water so that your urine is clear. Yellow colored urine is a good indication that you are dehydrated.
8. Eat only when hungry and when eating, don’t overstuff yourself.
9. Focus on food only when you eat i.e. don’t divert your attention by watching tv etc.
10. Exercise:
• Aerobic activity e.g. Start walking at least 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week with your spouse/friend and achieve your target heart rate.
• Strength training e.g. Start weight training at least 20 minutes 3 days a week.

NOTE: Yogurt can cause increased mucus generation in some individuals, if you are like that, don’t eat yogurt. Rather start eating roasted black chick peas (also known as Bengal Gram) daily.

Dear Sir
Patient mailed the developments promptly after using the medicine. Since I was out of station I could not report back to you immediately. I am reproducing his report as under.

'I've done what I have been able to in order to implement the suggestions given. While I've been slow in setting the exercise guidelines into motion (i.e. I have started some weight training as listed, but have not been able to implement 30 minutes of cardio each day), I have been doing most of what is outlined in the dietary guidelines. So it has been one week since I started and took the remedy and I can see improvement when I am following the dietary guidelines -- in particular it seems that the mucus subsides after eating the salad that was suggested. I have had salads like this before, but didn't seem to notice any difference. Perhaps it is the apple cider vinegar, although I am not sure. The mucus seems to be exacerbated most after eating in general, as I mentioned in the preliminary emails. I would say that when following all the guidelines the mucus is something like 65% improved.

I definitely think that if I continue to implement the exercise regimen more effectively and fully as well as experiment with different foods in the diet then improvement will continue, so I plan to try to organize my time to better accommodate the exercise suggestions'
Awaiting for further instructions from you.
Thanking you
