16 month silent relux

Hi,

I have a 16 month old that has been suffering from silent reflux since birth. She spit up a lot as an infant, but with minimal distress (even when it came out of her nose). However, she would not sleep longer than 20 minutes (unless latched), would make gasping sounds when picked up at times, and you could hear her swallowing randomly over and over. While at 16 months she is on solids and rarely spits up, we still have random bouts of vomiting (I feel this is more associated with drainage with colds). She still wakes very frequently at night, some worse than others, and usually crying as if uncomfortable. I can often hear her swallowing when she first goes down or when I go in to get her. I feel this reflux is the cause of severe sleep deprivation going on in my house. I am still breastfeeding, and she nurses often day and night. I have experimented with diet, cutting dairy, soy, corn, eggs, gluten, and acidic foods. I then added these back right before introducing them to her. I saw no significant changes. I notice certain foods might trigger (berries- maybe oatmeal), but do not have a clear list. I am a dietitian, so am working hard to identify all the particular foods that might trigger her without doing an elimination diet (but will if I need to). The doctor prescribed meds back at 4 weeks of age, but we refused. Her crib is on an incline and is attached to our bed (so we technically bedshare). She naps terrible as well. Mostly while latched, occasionally popping off. Occasionally she chokes in her sleep, both attached and unlatched. I feel this is related to the reflux as well. I keep reading about Nat Phos 6x, but I know all kids are different and she might fare better with another remedy. Please let me know if I can provide any further information to assist in your recommendation. Sorry if this description is erratic, I have not slept since 2012.

Thanks

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Please give her a few doses of CALC PHOS 12C every 6 hours.

Continue for six doses maximum and then watch her sleep and reflux for the next two to three days. If she responds well, you can give a single dose of CALC PHOS 30C whenever she relapses.

Come back here to report progress in any case.

I am having trouble locating calc phos 12c. I was able to find calc phos 6x and calc phos 30c. Any advice on finding 12c online?

If you have CALC PHOS 30C you can give her two doses on a single day, 12 hourly.

Then you can wait and watch the changes in the next two to three days.

Update: Now 17 months old. We did two doses of Phos Calc 30. 3 tablets Wed night and 3 Thurs morning. Her reflux has been getting better in general, even before the treatment. She had a bad day with it yesterday- did have dried strawberries and I had a carbonated water and a half a mimosa (one or all of these might have caused it).Sleep was horrific Wed and Thurs. Slight improvement Friday and Saturday, then up at least every 90 min last night. She took an almost 3 hour nap yesterday, then didn't go to sleep until 9 pm and was up at 5:30/6 (she is NEVER up this early). Today she had a 45 min nap and I got her to sleep by 7:45. She is extremely clingy and fussy, her separation anxiety is at an all time high, and she has limited ability to play independently (used to be great at this). She seems to be very emotional and unable to calm herself. She nurses about hourly. I know a lot of this is toddlerhood and normal, it is just really hard to handle and keep my cool when I have not slept over 4 uninterrupted hours in at least 17 months (and counting). Thanks for any advice you might have.

The best advice I can give you is to give her CHAMOMILLA 30C two doses on a single day, 12 hours apart. Give the doses when her stomach is empty and don't give her anything for the next 30 minutes.

This remedy is just suitable for a child you described. I hope she will calm down and you will be able to sleep uninterrupted at night.
