Help falling/staying asleep - child

I have an 8 year old daughter who has a terrible time falling asleep. She has had this problem since birth. I have tried Melatonin and valerian Root. Neither have worked.
She has ADD and anxiety which contribute to the problem. She needs her sleep for school and this is frustrating for our entire family! Please help!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
What do you mean by ADD and anxiety. We need some more detail about her problem, her attitude, her behaviour.

She has ADD, but does not display hyperactivity. By anxiety, I mean she is afraid of mostly everything. Loud noises, sirens, storms, the dark, being in a room by herself, etc. So going to bed even with the bathroom light on and a night light, she worries about someone coming in the house, and the dark and everything else she can think of and can't fall asleep. She yelss down from her bedroom to us, so that she knows where we are in the house(which is watching TV at the bottom of the steps.) If her Dad is working late, she will wait up for hum to come home before falling asleep no matter how late it is. She also complains that she can't fall asleep, but is tired. Melatonin hasn't helped. Valerian Root was suggested, but did not work. Tried Sam-E for anxiety, but did not help either. She needs help falling asleep.
