Rhus tox and Rauwolfia

Hi,
My cousin has arthritis and was prescribed Rhus tox 6C, 4 drops once every 4days. Rhus tox appears to be 'constitutional' for her and helps with the arthritis a lot but increases her high blood pressure further (140-170/99-113). So she has to also take Rauwolfia 3x, 4drops once every 4th day with Rhus tox. The pressure drops for two days to 140/95 but shoots back up after that.
I read that Rauwolfia has serious side effects, such as depression, and am concerned.
I would appreciate any input on this case, specially if the combination has ever been used and the safety of Rauwolfia.

Thanks

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
You should see whether Rhus Tox 30 or 200 helps without raising the blood pressure.

Kadwa,
Thank you for your advice. She was initially given Rhus tox 30C but due to serious increase in BP (>180/>108), the potency was reduced to 6C.

Rauwolfia 3x won't have serious side effects. It is thousand times diluted in 3x so it won't have the same side effects as pure herbal preparation.

Kadwa,
Thanks once again. Though it is highly diluted, I could see the negative effects on my cousin. A normally patient person, she became ill-tempered , depressed and negative-thinking. This is what prompted my post in the first place.

I have recommended stopping the remedies and use Viscum pentarkan instead.

I will update on the progress.

Nux Vomica 200 or Phosphorus 200 over long intervals may help her. Should be repeated only after 15 days on need.

Thank you. She did try Viscum pentarkan (minus Arnica) and the results have been amazing. The blood pressure gradually dropped to 135/ 90. She took it twice a day once and once a day from then on. There is slight relief in the arthritis synptoms as well.

Will report on the progress. Will switch to Nux vom/ Phosp if this does not work.

Kadwa,
Here is the update:
My cousin has been taking 10drops of Viscum Pentarkan (minus Arnica) along with
4drops of Rhus tox 30C once daily for the past 23 days. She missed meds on 3days, took only VP one day and took 4pills of Arnica 30C only for sprain on one day (the sprain went away).

Her blood pressure appears to be fluctuating: For the most part it remains around 150/95. However, sometimes for no reason, it shoots up to 170/108. The systolic and diastolic appear to follow their own patterns, i.e., when systolic rises to 160, diastolic remains around 90 and when diastolic rises to 108, the systolic is around 150. She also has anginal pain during these times and takes nitroglycerine puffer.

The arthritis goes down to about 7.5 from 9.0 because of Rhus tox and if she skips Rhus tox, arthritis goes back again. Also, in the absence of Rhus tox, she does not have the sense of well being.

Since yesterday she has been experiencing pain and swelling in the left tonsil region. Her tonsils had been removed when she was a child. She does not have a throat infection. Her explanation is that the childhood memory of tonsilitis is being triggered.

I suggested changing meds to Nux vom/ Phosp but she says that VP+Rhus tox works for her and she will stick to them. I have not been able to convince her. Her argument is that the combination has reduced her anginal pain frequency from multiple times a day to once in about 4 days.

I am worried about the high blood pressure. It could be life threatening.

My specific questions are:
a) How long can one take VP+Rhus tox without proving setting in? She succusses the bottle daily.

b) Is homeopathy pushing up the BP baseline?

c) Why does the BP shoot up like this and why are systolic and diastolic following separate patterns? I am scared that she should not come to some permanent harm or that her BP should not rise to incuable levels.

I would appreciate your input on this.
Thanks.

homeopathy won't do any harm. the variations in bp should not be ascribed to the remedies. have a look at the following remedies and try to figure out one for her on the basis of her other symptoms. bell seems to be well indicated. i generally prefer not to give any remedy or combination remedy for a long period to avoid homeopathic proving.

Kadwa,
Thank you for your advice and the exhaustive list. I am relieved that the BP is not linked to the meds.
I will work on the list with other rubrics as well and see what comes up.
