Severe Shin CrampingÑDid Nux Do This????

Hello, everyone

My husband came home feeling sick last Saturday afternoon. He said it all started with violent sneezing, a continuous drippy nose, slight headache and terrible fatigue. I found out that some kind of rampant flu bug was going around our town and all of his symptoms pointed to the flu so I gave him the three recommended doses of Oscillicocinum at the 6 hour intervals.

The next day he was feeling better, but he was still sneezing like crazy and his nose was constantly dripping. I considered Allium Cepa but his constitution is more Nux Vomica. (Quite frankly, his constitution seems to fluctuate between Nux and Sulphur. I know a constitution can't "fluctuate" but even a local homeopath had trouble locking him into one or the other constitution.) But I looked at it this way: I've given him Sulphur before and it seemed to just bring everything to the surface in a big time way. His SYMPTOMS pointed to Nux (sneezing, dripping nose and the rest). Thus, I gave him Nux 6X in a wet dose and gave him one teaspoon every 30 minutes for four doses until his symtpoms improved. And they DID improve! He still felt great fatigue and ended up sleeping on the couch most of Sunday. By Monday he was able to go to work but only worked half a day due to lingering effects of the cold. Since I know Nux works better when given at night, I gave him one teaspoon of the wet dose on Monday night and repeated this on Tuesday night.

Okay, here's where I need help.

My husband has always suffered from cramps in his lower legs. Sometimes they are so painful he screams out and must get out of bed to get relief. I know that there is a hydration connection as well as a magesium/calcium connection. He is taking one of the best liquid Sea minerals from Australia and drinks about a quart of water a day. We've had the cramps very much under control until Tuesday night. He got a really awful one in his right shin. When I looked at his shin, his foot was drawn up and the tightness was clearly evident. This guy was in pain. He was able to work it out and get back to sleep. I ceased giving him Nux 6X. But Wednesday night, the cramping was even worse. He was in and out of bed several times. It tended to hit about 20 minutes after he lay flat and then again around 3AM. Last night, Thursday, was the worst. He said the pain was literally unbearable and unrelenting.

Now, I know that Nux can cramp. Can anybody tell me what's going on here? Is this a "good" aggravation from the Nux? Should I follow up with another remedy that will address the cramping and lingering upper respiratory problems.

The upside to all this is that I've noticed with the Nux, he's more calm and easy going, as well as less taciturn. That's worth it for me!

Thanks to anyone who can shed light on this. I'd really like to know.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Jane ,it is not the aggravation of nux vomica, the few doses of nux vomica in potency cannot do any harm. For cramps Magnesia Phos in 3x or any other potency is the first remedy to consider,so whenever your husband feel cramps give him mag phos,it will relieve.

Sajjad,

What a quick response! Thank you very much. I have Mag Phos on hand in 6X.

Based upon my very long story above, Sajjad, do you think the treatment was correct or could I done something better? I'm always looking to improve my skills with homeopathy.

Sajjad,

Upon further reading this evening, I have another question for you.

I was reading in my cell salt book all about Mag Phos just to get a better overview. It mentioned several times that Mag Phos works very well with Kali Phos but it didn't say how to dose these two together. How does one do that? Can they be taken at the same time?

The reason I am intrigued about Kali Phos along with Mag Phos as my husband has bouts of what might be called "restless leg syndrome." I can't say that it IS RLS, but he tends to jerk his legs uncontrolably as he goes into sleep (literally within a minute or so). He is completely unaware of what he's doing. Sometimes, he becomes extremely restless in bed. He's been known to take his left arm (while lying on his right side) and with elbow in the air, smack himself in the forehead over and over again. "Nervous" is the key word here. I think that's why Nux Vomica tends to work well for him. He has a terrible addiction to smoking and has been known to overindulge in alcohol when he's either having a good time or feeling like he needs to shut out the world. His sleep pattern has become something that is quite antagonistic as there are many nights that I cannot sleep with him because he so restless.

I am thinking that Mag Phos and Kali Phos are a good match for him, the more I read about both cell salts.

Could you be so kind as to offer your thoughts on this. I can tell you that both of us would be eternally grateful to you if you could figure out how to eliminate this terrible sleep disorder problem.

Thank you.

Kali phos and mag phos can be given combined, they help each other, and when mind symptoms dominates, this combination gives good result.Nux vomica is his constitional remedy but it is better to give in high potency say 200c,before going
to bed give him one dose of nux vomica,it will help him.
To reduce his smoking you can rely on caladium in high potency say 200c,or 1000c,or 10000c,it must be in high potency, give him daily one dose till he stop smoking,to get rid of his drinking habit, give him 30 drops of avena sativa twice daily. it is worth trying, there is another medicine for reducing the craving for alcohol for the time being i dont remember but if you are interested i will let u know.

Wonderful information, Sajjad. I will put it to use.

I was really intrigued as I got more into my cell salt book last night. I decided to jot down the main symptoms my husband has and repetorize (to the best of my ability) what the key remedies were for my husband.

His main issues are as follows:

Sleep disorder: jerking, twitching of limbs and restless sleep.

Always has been prone to allergies, thus is a "mouth breather."

HOT feet in bed. Tends to run hot in bed in the evening and more normal temp in the morning.

Says he doesn't "feel worthy" of my love for him at times. Has periods of low self-worth but (because he's a Leo) hides it behind a shroud of bravado when he's at work.

Likes to initiate intimacy and yet is often paralyzed by intimacy. This has been a problem for us. He has had periods in the past of impotence caused by purely mental issues. Lacks desire sexually (this started about two years ago due to overwhelming work obligations that left him tired all the time.)

Speaking of tired, loves to sleep.

A loner, by nature. Not one to tell anyone what's going on inside his head.

Has repressed anger from childhood and bad first marriage. NEVER yells. When he's angry, he resorts to qiuck, snide comments and then retreats into his shell. (This is a major relationship issue which we are working on right now.)

Likes to be in CONTROL of every situation.

Can be highly critical of people who don't do their job right. Critical of food that is served well or prepared well in restaurants.

Addiction to smoking and beer. Uses them to disappear into himself.

Absolutely, totally committed to his marriage. Would never leave even if things got very bad.

As stubborn as a mule. Even if he wants to do it, if someone else suggests it and he didn't come up with it first, he'll often not do it. (Example: his doctor has been after him to do moderate daily exercise...walking, weight lifting, etc.) My husband knows he should do it, but he refuses saying he doesn't have time or is too tired. Yet, he spends an hour on the Internet each night when he comes home and watches TV, etc.)

Is untidy. Leaves clothes where he dropped them. Can leave a dirty dish in the sink for a week or longer (I know. I've tested this just to see.) When he dresses to go out for a special work event or social event, he looks fantastic and very together.

Likes the finer things in life (good food, gourmet coffee, imported cheese, etc.)

Has been a procrastinator all his life. HOWEVER, there's been a big shift this year with this which I'm very happy about.

His desire to smoke is so ingrained. We have tried many different remedies but not Caladium. With him, it's his DESIRE to smoke and the ability to use it to reduce stress (via the nicotine) and escape. Escaping is a big thing for him.

Grief: My husband has unresolved grief from his childhood that is deep. However, he DOES NOT know how to feel grief. He has been in therapy for this but I'm not sure how well the therapy has worked. We have an old cat that he loves dearly. The cat is obviously not well and going to die soon. Instead of connecting with the cat, he now avoids it. The pain of losing him is too much for my husband but he can't bring himself to FEEL the pain.

My husband currently takes Avena Sativa extract, 30 drops twice daily (in warm water in the AM and cold water before bedtime) to strengthen his nerves. It seems to have helped greatly and in some ways it has reduced his need for more beer or wine.

Okay, so after all this, I do think that Nux Vomica is good for him. I will order the 200C potency. Do I just give it to him once and then wait how long before another dose?

Regarding the cell salts, the book says that for mental symptoms, one must use "higher doses" but does not say what is meant by higher doses (30x vs. 6x??)

The cell salts that kept repeating as I repetorized the above symptoms were as follows:

Kali Phos
Nat. Mur
Nat. Phos
Fer. Phos
Mag. Phos

I have all of these in the traditional 6x potencies and I understand that I can give them to him all at once. But I was wondering if perhaps you knew of a single product that had these five remedies included? Hylands puts out a product called "Nerve Tonic" which has each of these except for Nat. Mur which figures prominently in the reportory. Could I give him the Nerve Tonic (which also has Calc. Phos) and Nat. Mur separately? The Nerve Tonic is all 3X potency, thus it wouldn't follow the "higher dose" suggestion for helping mental states. However, I know the 200C Nux would help that.

How often should I dose the cell salts? 4 at 4 times a day?

I know the Nerve Tonic combo can be taken indefinitely. Do you agree?

My husband drinks on average one cup of his gourmet coffee each day. There is absolutely no way I can tell him not to do this. He's okay about staying away from mint and raw garlic and strong scents, but he does like his salty, packaged meats and bacon about three times a week. Will the cell salts be completely neutralized with these habits?

Sajjad, I want to tell you that my husband is ready to feel better and change his life. We had a long talk about his a few days ago. He is prepared to cut back on his work schedule and do what he can to make our marriage stronger. We're both at a place where we need to make individual changes and changes as a couple so that we can stay together. I know you're not a miracle worker, but whatever insight you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Because my job requires me to do massive research in the alternative field, I am aware of so many natural healing modalities that can help us. While many of them have worked to strengthen my husband's body and mind, he has reached that place where he must really push himself to a new level of understanding and better health. I hope this all makes sense to you and that I'm not rambling or boring you. It just means so much to me for both of us to get help that will change our lives for the better.

Thank you very much.

He is critical of food and servers that are NOT doing their job and food that is NOT prepared to his high standards.

Sajjad,

Well, you really have me reading now!

I want to tell you that you have an uncanny intuitiveness as far as my husband's case. Truly amazing. I read about Caladium re: smoking and realized that many of the other symptoms match my husband to a tee.

I realize I am asking you a lot of questions, but I am truly interested and wish to help my husband. I've told him about what you've suggested and he is very much in favor of giving them a try.

I will need to order the Nux 200C and Caladium as our pharmacy does not carry them in that high a potency. Based upon what I have written above, could you please suggest a dosage schedule? In other words, I give him the Nux 200C before bed one night. Then use the Caladium for smoking. However, how long should I go between dosing the Nux200 and the Caladium?

Also, based upon what I have written, how high a dose of Caladium should I order? This smoking addiction is over 35 years long and VERY tied to burying his feelings in it. I will trust you with your potency suggestion. I do not know what 1000C or 10,000C translates to. Is that M?

I really feel you are onto something here.

Thank you,

Jane

JANE,Thanku,
I have the long history of your husband, and came to the conclusion that your selection of nux vomica for him is correct, but you have to give him 200c every night before going to sleep, and sulp in high potency say 200c or 1m as an intecurrent remedy since sulp is complementry to nux.
Caladium and avena sativa will not only reduce the craving for alcohol and smoking but will also his sex problem, another medicine for sex is Yohimbinum 3x 10 drops thrice daily.
Your selection of cell salt is also excellent, these can be given together and with homeopathic medicines also.Coffee and tea cannot antidote homeopathic as well ad cell salts.Think just for a moment that if some one is in emergency and he has taken tea or coffee just a few minutes and he needs prompt medication and u will wait till the effect of tea or coffee is gone no in the meantime the person will suffer or he may go to the other world,so i request every body to widen their thinking.i hope it is enough for today .
1000 is 1m,10000 is 10m,100,000 is cm.
see you then.

Jane sorry to butt into your post... Sajjad...can you elaborate on the remedies give for the addictions of smoking and alcohol? I have heard people using caladium for smoking. You mention to use 200 or higher potency until cravings diminish. Is it ok to give such high potency so often (daily). You wont get aggrev. from remedy?

Sajjad,

Glad I am on the right track. Thank you VERY much for your input.

How long do I give him Nux 200C before bed? Should I do it in wet or dry dose?

He did the Sulphur 200C approximately 7 months ago and had a terrible aggravation within four days in his lungs. He thought he was dying from pneumonia and was in bed for nearly a week. I am very concerned about having this reaction happen again as my husband is entering in negotiations for his business over the next four months and he cannot risk being in bed again for so long. I have the 200c available in but I'd have to order 1M. If I use it as intecurrent remedy, please advise how this is done precisely as I've never used homeopathy that way.

Also, could you please advise how I should also incorporate (when I should) the Caladium? And in which potency? 1M, 10M or what?

You mean that Caladium will help his sex problem I assume not reduce it right? (The wording was confusing).

I started him promptly on the chosen cell salts (The Schuessler Biochemic Nerve Tonic + a separate dose of Nat. Mur 6x as it is not in the Nerve Tonic. He took two doses spaced three hours apart and fell asleep with very little shaking. He is still gettng over this rough spell of illness so he is coughing a lot (a wet cough). However, the cell salts seem to be helping in that department as well.

An interesting note that I just realized. Looking at my calendar, it is almost 7 months to the exact DAY when he got this respiratory cold to when he took his first dose of Sulphur 200C. Could this be a follow-up with the Sulphur 200C? It's hard to discern as there is a bad cold going around town and I did get it myself so I don't know if there's any correlation to the dose of Sulphur 200C 7 months ago. Yet, it's strange how it appeared literally almost to the exact day, isn't it?

I look forward to hearing from you again. And trust me, I will report back to you via the Forum as to the progress and any aggravations my husband may have with the suggested treatment.

Thank you.

Are you still around, Sajjad?

Also, when I dose my husband with the Nux 200, can I place the pellets into a 400ml. water jug and dose one teaspoon out of that for each dose?

I know I've got a lot of questions but I want to make sure I get the proper idea for how each of the remedies should be used (Nux, Caladium and Sulphur) and in what potencies.

Thank you again.

Jane dear,i am only here just for few minutes and quite briefly the answer to youe recent question is.
Just take say 100 ml of boiled cooled water pour into it few drops of nux vomica or any other remedy mix it well(no need of fixed number of jurks say 50 or 60 the basic concept is to mix it thoriughly nothing more than that)and give say 20 ml out of this as a dose and add the same amount of water mix it well so that the level of the original remains the same, give another dose and repeat the
previous,by doing this every time the potency will be raised and frequent repetition will not produce any kind of so called aggravation.I will also answer your questions.
sajjad.

sajjadakram635 last decade
1.Just one drop direct on the tongue or mixed in a little water, second night do the same thing, soon as he feels better reduce the frequency of repetition ie on alternate day and if he again better after two days and keep on reducing till he is better.
2.If you think that previously sulp gave him trouble which according to is doubtful, you may wait ubtil his business negotiation is over. The best method to avoid aggravation which you think was just give 3 doses of sulp 200 half an hour apart, repeat after 7 days.
3.caladium cm is most effective for reducing craving for tobacco, the best way is give three doses of half an hour apart to once again to avoid aggravation.
4.It will increase his sexual power and will not reduce.
5.If the cell salts are helping him dont stop they will not give him any harm.
6.To avoid aggravation i have explained to u in the previous post if it is not clear i can explain again.
JOSE 07,you can find the answer to your question in this post for youe kind information my dear friend there are certain ways to avoid aggravation some of them i have explained if not satisfied we can go further i love all my friends on this forum discussing for the betterment of every body.see you then.

sajjadakram635 last decade
Sajjad,

Thank you for your information. I just need some clarification so I can do this correctly.

1. I am not clear on how to prepare the dose as outlined in your email above. I can get Nux in drops or globules. It sounds as if you are recommending liquid drops. If this is so, I will get that form of Nux. As I understand it, to avoid aggravation, I take 3 drops of Nux and place it in 100 ml. of boiled cooled water. Mix it well. I then give my husband 20 ml. of this as a dose OR do I give him 20 ml. of the mix COMBINED with 20 ml. of plain water? Then I immediately (???) give another dose and repeat the "previous" (? clarify)

2. In your follow-up post (listed as 1.), you say "one drop direct on the tongue...") I am confused as I thought the dose for Nux was 20 ml. either mixed in equal amount of water or by itself. Please clarify.

3. I will follow suit with Sulphur.
Shall I administer the dose as outlined for Nux to avoid the aggravation?
WHEN do I give the Sulphur in relation to the Nux? After Nux treatment is done? Of course, I will repeat 7 days later as you suggested.

4. Caladium. I will give three doses, three hours apart. Again, shall I do the same method you suggest (which I need clarified as I've mentioned) to prevent aggravation?

What potency Caladium? 1M? 10M?

5. Glad to know it will increase/improve sexual power. He has wanted to resort to drugs for this issue and I do not want him to do that if possible. Will Caladium also improve libido in this case? (I look on libido/desire and ability as two separate factors). Part of his lack of desire is definitely connected to his constant worry about business problems and whether he will fail (VERY Nux, wouldn't you say?)

I gave the required four doses of the cell salts to him yesterday and he was as calm as I'd seen him in years. However, he seemed like a jumping jack in bed last night as his strange jerking and even jolting body movements were almost out of control as he slept. Since he is just doing the cell salts, I wonder if this is a sign I'm giving too much or what's going on?

Thank you very much again for your time and help. Once I can get everything clarified, I will order the remedies immediately and start the program.

Jane,
I repeat the process.
1.Take 100ml of boiled cooled water.
2.Add to it 2-3 drops of liquid potency or globules very few, shake it well.
3.The whole water is now medicated.
4.Take say 20ml out of it as a dose.
5.Left behind is 80ml.
6.Add to it another 20ml of boiled cooled water in it to mak it it again 100ml.
7.Shake it well, now you take out of it another 20ml as a dose.
8.Left behind is again 80ml,now you again add another 20ml of boiled cooled in it,shake it well.
9.All the time the stock must be 100ml.
10.The repetition of the dose depends upon the requirement.
11.By this method every time there is definite rise of potency.
12.Frequent repetion of even deep acting medicines like lycopodium and others is possible without any kind of aggravation because every dose is little bit rise in potency to the previous.
I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND IF NOT INFORM I WILL TRY TO MAKE YOU UNDERSTAND AGAIN.
With caladium you can do the same, potency 200c or above which ever available easily.
Caladium will cover the both.
Any more question welcome.

Sajjad,

NOW I understand. Thank you!

I will do the same process with both Sulphur and Caldium.

The only other questions I have is when to bring the Sulphur and Caldium into the program?

I know we start with Nux as you advised and that Sulphur is dosed thrice and then repeated 7 days later. Caladium is dosed thrice.

Do I repeat Caldium 7 days later in the same thrice dose?

I will order the remedies today.

Thank you so very much.

Are you back with us and feeling better?

When you get a chance, could you let me know when I start my husband on the Caladium (during the Nux treatment or after) and whether I repeat it one week later.

Also, when do I bring in the Sulphur as the intercurrent remedy?

The remedies are ordered and should arrive by next Tuesday so I will let you know how things progress.

Shall I do that on this thread or shall I email you directly. Let me know.

Thanks again,

I am not fully recovered,i will be back very soon for details.
1.First think first,if you think he need nux first, give him nux first, and if caladium first then calidium.
2.Yes you can intercurrent sulp, after 7 days of nux and if you think he has some problem with his lungs due to smoking then avoid sul.
3.You can email if particularly required and if you think that discussion will also be favourable for others then this thread is the best.

Hi Jane.
I happened to see this thread to day. Mag Phos and Kali Phos were suggested for your husband’s suffering from cramps in his lower legs. You have not posted any progress in this respect so far. Hopefully he must have got relieved of this suffering. You also report that your husband has bouts of what might be called "restless leg syndrome, but he tends to jerk his legs uncontrollably as he goes into sleep.
You yourself appear to have good knowledge of homeopathy and very much impressed with Nux Vomica. Please also study Cuprum Met for the cramps of calves. You will find that this remedy covers “convulsive cramps all over the body with twitching, jerking, trembling etc. Everything done, all his actions are spasmodic, are convulsive. All the activities are irregular, disorderly and convulsive.”
God forbid if he again gets an attack of cramps, please try Cuprum Met 30 immediately as the attack comes. Hopefully, by the grace of God he will get an immediate relief.
Madam I may clarify that I am only an amateur and a mere lover of homeopathy and not a qualified homeopath. I am just a small fly before the eminent Homeopaths like Dr. Sajjad, Joe De Levera and others I cant say whether in the present circumstances when you are already loaded with so many other remedies, you can use this medicine regularly for some time for permanent cure of cramps and jerks etc. or not. However, for at least an immediate relief from cramps, you may keep Cuprum Met 30 handy. One dose will be 3-4 globules placed under the tongue or 2 drops (if in liquid form) in a quarter cup of boiled-cooled water sipped, placed for ten seconds in the mouth before swallowing.
Dr. Sajjad may like to offer his comments. He may also like to suggest, out of Cuprum Met 30 and Cuprum Aceticum 30, which is better? I have an experience with Cuprum Met 30.

Thanks and Best Regards

Sajjad,

Glad you are recovered from your fever.

Since Nux is my husband's constitutional remedy, I think I will give it first. In this case, I will then give Caladium. How much of a break between Nux and Caladium should I give him?

Yes, due to the smoking, I know my husband has a problem in his lungs. He's had a full check up and the doctor says there are no immediate concerns in his lungs. However, the doctor always tells him to stop smoking and exercise more. I will play it by ear as to dosing with the Sulphur, dependent upon how the Nux and Caladium affect him.

I will continue to post on this thread as to his progress as it might benefit others as well. I want to get him started on this asap as I must travel part of November on business.

LIBRA:

Thank you for your suggestion. As you might expect, I have tried many different natural remedies for my husband's sleep problem. None of them have worked completely.

Fortunately, the shin and leg cramping ended after two doses of Mag. Phos. I can't say enough about this remedy!

The jerking and restless sleep problem is another story. Four days ago, he started taking the "Nerve Tonic" as I described in an above post along with Nat. Mur 6X as it matched his symptoms. Four doses a day. The first two nights, as I reported, the jerking actually turned into JOLTING, like electric shocks. I wasn't sure if these cell salts were causing an aggravation of his symptoms. He also seemed to be very drowsy during the day. Thus, I got the cell salt book out and decided to give him four separate cell salts:

Kali Phos
Nat. Mur
Calc. Phos
Nat. Sulph

All are in 6X. He has been on them for two days at three tablets, four times a day. I hope that three pellets is okay vs. four. It's just that I wanted to reduce the amount he was taking. I also hope it's okay that he takes them together. To get him to do these four separately would be impossible. Trust me.

Last night, his sleep pattern was definitely more relaxed. But there is still an edge there.

As he will be starting on the program outlined by Sajjad shortly (once the remedies arrive) I am not sure I want to give him something else. We have tried Cuprum Met. and it did nothing for his problem. In fact, he aggravated and the cramping was so severe that he literally fell out of bed and rolled into a ball on the floor in great pain. Even with all that, Cuprum did not touch the jolting, jerking problem.

I was considering Argentum Met. but like I said, I would rather let Sajjad's suggestions of Nux and Caladium and perhaps Sulphur run their course.

Thank you.

Dear Sajjad,

I'll need to know as soon as possible the correct time to bring in the Caladium200 after my husband starts the Nux200 and whether it is a good idea to REPEAT the three doses of Caldaium a week later. He says he is committed to doing whatever he can to stop smoking as he realizes his cough is not going away as quickly as it should after this recent bout with the flu.

I have to go out of town for a week in November and I'm trying to figure out his dose schedule while I'm gone. (I want to make it as easy as I can for him since he's not completely used to taking homeopathics.)

I really look forward to getting clarification on this question when you get a chance.

Thank you again for all your help and guidance.

I am now much better, from monday i will be regular.
Alternate nux and caladium on weekly basis. One week nux other week caladium. On monday i will give you informations about cell salt.
In another thread you were talking about puffiness under the eyes. Why it is so,is it due to age factor or due to using of glasses,or due to some kidney disease, unless you know the cause, the right medicine to select is difficult.sajjad.
