Proving remedies, how many doses, how high?

Hi,
I'm rather concerned about my father. Last year, he was prescribed nitricum acidum 30 - all I know is that he took four doses of that very close together, and one dose of nitricum acidum 200, not too soon after. Soon after he developed a hoarseness which has steadily (but very gradually) grown worse. It's not getting worse now but it has also not gone. We've had it checked and it seems to be a slight thickening of the larynx. A friend told me that he might be 'proving' the remedy. Is this really so? I have no clue if the NA 30/200 is the cause or if something else might have brought this on.

Would appreciate some info about 'proving' remedies. Can it happen in just a few doses?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
did he ever have this in the past, even the way back past?

This could be a 'layer' underneath what he was treated for.

He should go back to the homeopath and get a remedy
for the hoarseness and the larynx.

No such hoarseness in the past. Yes, he is being treated for hoarseness and the larynx now--to which he seems to be responding albeit very slowly. Prior to this, he has also received homeopathy for a few (repetitive) bouts of upper respiratory tract infection, to which he responded very well.

We are just curious to know if any homeopathic remedy can cause proving in merely a few doses?

Yes. it can if it is the wrong remedy or if a person
got too high a dose, but it wears off. This was
a year ago, so the effects of the remedy if it was
the remedy? would not be there- they would fade off.
