Migraine

Neurological disorder causing recurrent severe headaches, often accompanied by nausea and vertigo.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Migraine is characterised by one sided headache, nausea, sometimes vomiting and vertigo. Disturbance in vision could precede an attack and irritability to noise and light during the pain. Varous modalities particular to the patient need to be checked out and the right remedy arrived at.
Seldom do we fail if we can get the symptoms right from the patient.

I know an aqupunturist that can cure Migraine with a special technic that he know in aqupunture, specifically to treat Migraine.
I've seen many people that they are Migraine free after a long time suffering.
This is the website if you like to know more about it:

I suffer with migraines, have had for six years, tried aupuncture, homeopathy, etc. finally I found folliculinum through my own research, it seems to be working, 3 months and just had a migraine after a very stressful week. Of course you will need a homeopath to dose it and confirm it is what you need, good luck, Greta

I have treated migraine successfully with Bryonia 30. It is best to take 4 No 40 globules as early as possible when you feel the throbbing in your head. The attack should abort within under 20 minutes.

Dear Joe

I am reviving a old thread.

Can you pl.explain what were the modalities of the pain for which Bryonia 30 worked?

Thank you in advance.

As always in homeopathy, the symptoms must match the remedy.

I had right sided migraines in the forehead and eye reaching down to the teeth at times. They lasted for three days and moving caused vomiting. The headache would sometimes also acquire a pain area in the left eye, forehead area. I needed a dark room and to be left alone.

I think Byronia would have been a good choice if I had known about it. As it was, Lycopodium in 200 C worked and I haven't had a headache in 5 years after 40 years of 2-3 headaches a month.

You have probably not looked at the "drug picture" of:

SANGUNARIA CAN.

...for that kind of right sided headache.

Another one to see is :

IrisVIR

Hi Murthy,

I'm afraid that I did not see your post on Migraine as I did not get the usual email alert.

I have treated many cases of Migraine and Bryonia 30c is the remedy that I have almost always used. The one exception is when the migraine is caused by exposure to strong sunlight from the shade like when one goes out of a darkened room into direct sunlight outside. This has triggered a violent migraine with tunnel vision and in some cases even a temporaty fainting spell in the case of my son many years ago when he was about 13 years when the only remedy that answered was Glonoine 30.

For the standard Headache which is located all around the head Bry 30 is equally effective while for Migraine which is usually in one half of the head, Bry is the best choice. It usually aborts an attack in about 15 minutes and it is most effective when used at the first sign of a migraine coming on.

I was a chronic sufferer from the age of 18 to about 38 when I was first introduced to Homeopathy. Up to that time I used to suffer from migraines every week end and some were so bad that I had to be in a darkened room with an ice bag on my head to ease the intense pain. The drug I used at that time was Cafergut and this created other problems which were worse than the migraine.

I started on Bryonia 30 and discovered to my great relief that my migraines were history. What is more, it seemed to be the perfect cure as after about 6 months when took Bry regularly about 3 times weekly, I discovered that I had been cured permanently. Ever since then I have always given and recommended Bry to anyone who seeks my assistance and it is very rarely that it has not worked.

I discovered that the best way to overcome migraines it to take Bry as early as possible and whenever one has that slight inkling of pain in one side of the head which can be anticipated by a vigourous shake of the head from side to side, like when saying no.

I recommend 4 balls of Bry 30 to be placed under the tongue ASAP upon the first signs of a migraine coming on and if it does not provide relief in an hour a repeat dose is taken.

Dear Joe

Better in a dark room and relief from cold applications.

This might have been the reason why Bry helped you so perfectly.

But, will it cure every type of migraine?

I think you have to depend more on modalities and Bry may be one of the most indicated medicines.

But, as Pankaj has side, sanguinaria, spigelia may also help.

Murthy

bandarbabu2000 last decade
I have given Bry to many who suffer from migraine, especially those who work in my organization whose progress I can follow up from time to time.

I had a recent case of a girl who had been suffering from Migraine for many years which she would get weekly and she would get her migraine even when working in her office here. She spends a lot of time on the computer and this may be the trigger. This case
responded within 15 minutes to the first dose of Bry 30 and she is now on a daily dose of just 2 balls every night. She has not had a relapse ever since she started on the therapy about a month ago.

I do agree that it is always better to check the modalities which determine the migraine or the headache to choose which of the various remedies are best suited to abort the attack. However I do not subscribe to investigating the precise definition of whether it is right or left sided as specified in the Organon. I have found that many of the old rules can be broken and my philosophy is that if a remedy helps a sufferer there is no harm in using it for the next similar case. I believe that it is important for those of us who like to experiment with the use of remedies to cure various ailments to share their experience with others so that they too can benefit from the new uses to which the remedies can be used for.

You remarked recently that Arnica is my favourite remedy. It was quite accidentally that I discovered that it was more effective than Conium and Sabal S to help my BHP which I nursed for 5 years on Arnica. I had used Arnica to help cure a painful skin wound and discovered that it was more effective that both the other remedies I was using. This is not recorded in any MM or Reps and I hope that it will be added to the new editions ASAP. I have also discovered that Arnica 6c is ideal to help with Incontinence in the aged and also after TURP surgery when the surgeon has damaged the sphincter muscle in the neck of the bladder and this too is not recorded anywhere. This same remedy can be used to arrest the loss of and to promote the growth of hair. It also promotes deep restful sleep and this can easily be verified by anyone interested by taking just 3 balls last thing at night.

I am however digressing from our discussion and I would welcome the thoughts of others on my approach to the use of Homeopathic remedies to cure suffering humanity.

My experience is that almost all the migraines or headaches that have been referred to me have invariably responded to Bry so far. If they do not, I shall remember Sanguinaria and Spigelia both of which I have in my stock of remedies in the 30th potency.

The problem we have here in Sri Lanka is that Homeopathic Remedies are not freely available like in India and I have to depend on supplies from Mumbai to replenish and to add to my stocks.

Unfortunately Homeopathy is not popular here as those who practice this science are few and far between and are only diploma holders. There is no possibility of following a formal degree course in Homeopathy in Sri Lanka although there is talk of a Homeopathic Hospital being built sometime in the future. The problem then would be the lack of qualified lecturers to teach this subject and it may be then a case of the blind leading the blind as has happened in the case of teachers of English in the thousands of government schools here where they stopped teaching English in 1965 and are now faced with an acute shortage of English teachers. Those of us who have had our education in English are too old or are not interested in teaching as it is a profession that is very poorly paid by the State.

Dear Joe

I read Kent again, after seeing your post, and a few other books,( Nash, Vithoulkus, Boger,to be specific.)

I could clearly see why it is a head remedy for migraine.I am more than convinced that you can use Bryonia as a first line of defence for migrine.

Murthy

bandarbabu2000 last decade
When you bend the head down...and the head ache increases....surely Bryonia will help.(the lips will be dry and parched).

When the lips are red, ears are red, eyes are red and the head on right side throbs....think of Belladona.

when headache is from sunrise to sunset and settles in right eye ....but no redness of lips, eyes etc then think of Sangunaria. (skin might be yellow!!).

When it is left sided headache caused by nervousness and place of action is the temples and the eyes or a trigeminal neuralgia then think of Spigelia... (the heart might be weak!!).

when BP is high and the headache is from sunrise to sun set....throbbing in any part of the body....person forgets directions on the street...then think of Glonoine....

....there are many more to be considered like:

IrisVir, Natrum Mur, Colocynth, Mag Phos, Aconite, Sepia, Gelsemium, Kali Carb. and so on....

Migraine is serious business....please analyse and then recommend!!

Migraine is the end result of many different causes for the disease !

Dear Pankaj

Migraine is a chronic problem, and needs careful anlysis I agree.

But,when people want to try some medicines, without help from a homeopath,I still feel Bry can be tried for a few days,to start with.

If, there is no relief, obviously they will think of other medicines.

Your analysis is very helpful.

I feel satisfied that I was able to get more detailed discussion for the readers.

That is my primary intention.

Thank you.

Thankyou Sir....dear Murthy,

At least you and me want people to share more ideas about homeopathy.

Our interest is common on that front. You would have noticed, my intention is always to add more knowledge and seek more knowledge.

Staphysagria helps after surgical operations.

When was the operation performed? If it is an after effect of anasthesia, the remedy is different.

Murthy

bandarbabu2000 last decade
My vote is for Arnica 30 especially after my own experience after my
surgery 2 years ago. The dose I used was 2 balls every 2 to 3 hours. No morphine was used after the first day post surgery.

It is possible that Arnica 6c may perhaps be more effective, but I have no experience using this potency. Theoretically I feel that it should be more effective and I hope that someone will take it and report progress.

I am glad that someone who used the Bryonia therapy reported success in using it for Migraine. It is important that those who use any remedy that is recommended by those who contribute to this BB report their progress as this is one way to promote the use of Homeopathic remedies instead of the other harmful drugs that are normally used to treat the pain caused by Migraine and other ailments which are cured quickly and without any after effects by Homeopathy.

Joe De Livera last decade
Yes, Joe

I too have Arnica in mind.It is important to know, when was the operation performed. If it was say, a month ago, may be the medicine will be different.

But,staphysagria, works in a general way, in healing the wound made by surgical instruments, fast, helps in resolving problems with sutures.

I gave this medine to few people, after surgeries, and its effect is good.

That is why even with scant data,we can suggest Staphysagria for after effects of operations.

If the numbness in the leg is in addition to pains, then the medicine would be different.

I appreciate your suggestion for the patients to come back and report here.

Regards

Murthy

you can add that bryonia can take place of the migraine medication; amerge. at about $23 a pill plus side effects, we can all agree that homeopathy makes that much more sense. amerge only works if catch symptoms right away but makes you drowsy, unresponsive too name a few side-effects...

People will not read it here.By the nature of the heading ,people who are intersted in migrine only come here.

Better start another, with all the information, with an apppropriate heading.

It is a difficult case to help, but who knows, you may get help.
