Asthma treated with smoke

My father is 83 grew up in U.S. When he was a child his mother and brother had asthma. Doctor prescribed some type of cigarette (herbal? or homeopathic?). Father said she smoked the cigarette and blew the smoke to her son with asthma so he would inhale. This cured them both of the asthma - never had to be treated again in their lifetime. Anyone know what this might have been?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
This is certainly not homeopathic!!

It also seems an unlikely story. One 'cigarette' and chronic asthma is cured?

I never said it was one. It was over a period of time.

Ah that is not how it sounded from your description, but that is more believable.

The only thing I know about is the use of Cannabis in the treatment of asthma - it is an asthma remedy in homoeopathy as well.

Perhaps so - it is a bronchodilator - but, as we know, it is difficult to utilize cannabis now (after decades of the ridiculous marijuana madness propaganda). God put so many wonderful plants on the earth for our healing that I was hoping for an alternative for my 10 year old son. I did find a Wild Cherry Bark Syrup at the health food stores that helps and it has such plants as Marshmallow root, Elecampane root, Yerba Santa Leaf, Stinging Nettle, etc. and it has been helpful for him but not lasting - nor curative. I do recognize some of the flavor in it as something my Choctaw Grandmother used to give us (different grandparent) when we were young but the family members are dead who could give that info. So much has been lost as the generations have left us. Just thought someone might know. I feel like we are reinventing the wheel by having to re-discover healing plants and even some homeopathic uses. Thanks anyway.

Well homoeopathy has plenty of cures for asthma already well established.
